Its a bit amusing to watch the radicalised point out the ways they think they are not radicalised....

Whilst those who are actually far-right bigots take a different approach to the responses.... it's markedly different, those paying attention can spot it.

Nonetheless, the world, feminist orgs, and the majority of women across all walks of life get it and support trans inclusion wholeheartedly.

The opinions of the radicalized and hateful become further marginalized.

I salute the women of unison and the strong women who display the critical thinking necessary to spot what the rest of us can see, and stand with us against the far-right misogynists and conservatives who often have anti-abortion measures alongside anti-trans legislation.

Trans women are women, in life and in law we stand together.

Love this woman! Look at all the men...

But sex is real and the problem we have is people trying to deny that

Unison quite rightly points out transphobia is used as a far-right recruitment tool via propaganda.

One angle of which is to pretend transphobia and bigotry, is just 'legitimate concerns' or 'sex is real' whilst fearmongering and demonising trans people, especially trans women.

This forum responds with the EXACT same far-right propaganda, fearmongering, and demonising trans women, unison are pointing out.

You know, anyone would think Unison was bang on the money here.

They so blatantly ARE.

Pretend sex is real? Is that this week’s position for you lot?

So we’ve moved on from trans women are women, through trans women are female, and it’s now “sex isn’t real”?

Can't help you there sorry. When I emailed unison i was cross, so my wording was angry and emotional (angrymotional?) So many of the women here make such measured, thoughtful arguments and i blurt stuff out and miss the key points.

I just cancelled my membership and didn't go in to the reasons.

Eightiesfan · 16/06/2022 17:16

@SunbowRainshine31

When you say the majority of women support gender-based rights are you in fact referring to young teenage girls who have yet to live as adults, but are super eager to throw away the rights that took women decades to achieve? I mean you’ve given them the awesome TMAW mantra, so it’s the least they could do.

Wimbunds · 16/06/2022 17:16

WellThatsMeScrewed · 16/06/2022 16:51

Does anyone know if there is a template to send to Unison objecting to this? I’m crap at writing such things!

Given that the latest 'More in Common' report seems to suggest that most of the British public espouse gender critical opinions, this 'far right' tactic looks more desperate with every passing day.

I would thought a trade union would want to show themselves to be a bit more in touch with the views of the average, non-activist members who fund them. But up to them.

babyjellyfish · 16/06/2022 16:27

Gender critical means exactly what it says on the tin = critical of gender.

We believe that gender is based in regressive and sexist stereotypes and don't agree that it is any sound basis for organising society.

babyjellyfish · 16/06/2022 16:26

Are you confusing gender-traditionalist, American Republicans with gender-critical British women?

I think they might be.

Here's a helpful guide:

Gender ideologues: reject the reality of biological sex, accept the legitimacy of gender roles.

Religious/conservatives: accept the reality of biological sex, accept the legitimacy of gender roles.

Gender critical feminists: accept the reality of biological sex, reject the legitimacy of gender roles.

DeaconBoo · 16/06/2022 16:18

What do you think “gender-critical” actually means?

They've been asked to set it out in a way that self-identified gender-critical people would agree with.
It's one of the very basic aspects of discussion, so everyone knows specifically what is being discussed, and to make sure no-one's talking at cross purposes.

But sunbow can't say. Perhaps they've been misled and are embarrassed about it. Perhaps they've never even stopped to think.

If you had a branch of say 5,000 members and it was quorate at 500, then all you would need would be 251 people to pass the resolution.. It's a legitimate decision, but not necessarily representative.

It's also fast becoming clear that people don't understand or won't define the terms used, which is a bit of a waste of time.

Beamur · 16/06/2022 16:17

Plus the people who are active in unions tend to be keen to be 'progressive' and this line is very much led by Labour. It's hardly surprising that these resolutions get through as the level of participation in Union activity for the vast majority of workers is virtually nil. It's a small cohort with significant influence at both local and national levels.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 16/06/2022 16:17

... and still no specifics on what transphobic things have been said.

Also I've no idea who Matt Walsh is .

WellThatsMeScrewed · 16/06/2022 16:16

Grrrr @MNHQ please bring in edit!!!

Forget left and right

Think right or wrong . Basic moral values

This. With (biological or otherwise) knobs on

WellThatsMeScrewed · 16/06/2022 16:14

First @SunbowRainshine31 you do realise you’re not making my new arguments? Have you actually read any of the threads on this section? I have for a number of years and I have yet to see any ‘far right’ views. In fact what I’ve mostly seen is women who are left politically and feel lost as their natural political allies (Labour and Greens) abandon womens rights.

Also can I ask are you a member of a Union? I’ve been a pair up member of a union for 20 odd years. Not very ‘far right’ and yet still stand for womens sex based rights.

Cattenberg · 16/06/2022 16:13

Maybe don't take it for granted that everyone Gender-critical on here and other places ISNT a far-right woman, or a man.

because the vast majority are indeed, and that is evidenced far and wide.

Beamur · 16/06/2022 16:11

All it requires for a resolution to pass is for it to be voted on at a quorate meeting. Whilst the level of attendees required to be quorate will have been set at a legitimate meeting, and is acceptable as a means to allow due process, it can't really be extrapolated as meaning everyone in Unison agrees with this (or any policy). If you had a branch of say 5,000 members and it was quorate at 500, then all you would need would be 251 people to pass the resolution.. It's a legitimate decision, but not necessarily representative.

babyjellyfish · 16/06/2022 16:10

Oh sorry, thought Sunbow said that.

babyjellyfish · 16/06/2022 16:09

Ah, bless, you couldn't answer.
Why are you even arguing when you don't know what gender-critical is?

What do you think gender critical is?

DeaconBoo · 16/06/2022 16:08

I'd bet my house that "evidenced far and wide" means "a man said it on Twitter".

DeaconBoo · 16/06/2022 16:07

SunbowRainshine31 · 16/06/2022 15:54

Listen to women, and pay attention when they speak up.

Such as the unison position.

Ah, bless, you couldn't answer.
Why are you even arguing when you don't know what gender-critical is?

(To anyone lurking: this is all they have. It always has been. They can't engage in actual good-faith discussion so it's deflect, don't answer, can't answer, won't answer because the answer looks bad).

DialSquare · 16/06/2022 16:02

I'm gender critical and I'm not far right.
