So disappointed I so admire his work.
Apparently LGB Alliance is killing trans people by only having 3 letters. Don't know why he thinks this is clever instead of using just 3 letters he should try talking with with a radom set of consonants and 1 vowel.

@MishyJDI

Good for him calling out the LGB Alliance for the hate group they really are. They do nothing for L, G, or B people. Just attack trans. It's all a scam in my opinion and more are waking up to them!
Doesn't it get boring typing the same obvious lies over and over again?

Remember, your opinion simply isn't fact!

As an L person, they're doing something for me.

They're speaking up and standing up for my right to be homosexual, and not be harassed for refusing to provide relationships and intercourse to a biological sex I feel no sexual attraction for. And my right as a woman to choose my own orientation and decide my own boundaries. And for people not to be hounded out of Pride and gay spaces for being homosexual after being told not to.

Quite important stuff.

If others perceive people being homosexual as 'hate' then that's their problem really.

Lottapianos · 14/10/2021 15:12

'I thought It's A Sin was powerful and brilliant and also absolutely suggested RTD only sees women as support humans'

Completely agree. Both things can be true

That clip is....quite something. He seemed really quite pissed, but in vino veritas and all that. The first half of his speech was great, the second half sounded unhinged

I think this is a real wolf attack. And many people shouting now are NOT remotely the people who were anti-gay in the 80s. LGB Alliance is predominantly former 80s gay rights campaigners.

Absolutely, @NecessaryScene. I'm really fucked off that my part in the 1980s in gay rights campaigning has been written out of history by men like RTD, just because I think a legitimate charity called LGBA has a role to play and a legal right to exist.

Don't try and obliterate me and my personal history, guys. Don't try and obliterate my role in 1980s social movements. It won't work because you're lying. I have always been a left-wing, atheistic, human rights supporting, pro-choice woman.

Don't even get me started on Matt Lucas.

Tesla73 · 14/10/2021 11:41

Oh and i loved Dracula - had its iffy moments but overall it was excellent especially the actor playing Dracula

Tesla73 · 14/10/2021 11:40

I saw League Of Gentlemen some years ago on stage and they are very much on our side when it comes to this nonsense

When they did the reunion series there were some complains over Babs character and they just shrugged it off saying comedy is comedy and needs to be what it is

Out of all of them i can imagine Reece Sheersmith telling certain factions to eff off if they come for him as he is the grumpiest

I am a massive fan of Doctor Who but its finished now - I didnt even feel positive when they announced RTDs return after comments he made about only gay actors should play gay characters and his championing of the woke idiot from the band Years & Years. They even went with a non-story in the paper they he may be the first gay Doctor but I reckon that was just to test the waters

@Fariha31

Actually I did think Dracula was great, espicially the first two. RTD stuff I have always found a bit trite and cringy.
Me too re Dracula, and RTD being trite. His characters are utterly two dimensional.
Tanith · 14/10/2021 11:16

“ To be fair to RTD that was the other one -Steven Moffat.”

And Mark Gatiss, another gay man they’ll no doubt be coming for soon to demand allegiance.

The thing is, there was no need for either Russell T Grant or Matt Lucas to say a word about LGB Alliance. The fact they did speaks volumes.
Both, of course, have new work to promote.

@AdmiralCain

I love me a bit of Dracula, I watched that utterly vapid ghastly Dracula offering he did at christmas on the BBC a couple of years back. When Dracula said to Jonathan Harker 'You will be my Bride' well fuck me, I've never turned anything off so quick. The man just pushes LGB in everything he does and the BBC laps it up.

Duckypoohs · 14/10/2021 10:48

If you watch cucumber there are some great storylines involving the main characters sister, he obviously does see and empathise with women.

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2021 10:46

I think theres an issue here with being in the trenches fighting and then leaving the trenches becoming a senior officer and having a nice office and being out of touch with those you now command because you don't understand the current issues your soliders face and are still living in the past trying to fight the battle of 30 years ago, being completely unaware of have the tactics and shape of threats to you have changed over that time.

Its all the more ironic given this is a man who writes about time travel.

History repeats but always shifts and changes slightly in how it manifests to a new generation. He should be well aware of this.

Duckypoohs · 14/10/2021 10:46

I don't think he is as straight up misogynistic as loj, I think that's unfair. He's very gay man centric, which tbh is fair enough.

Fariha31 · 14/10/2021 10:38

@HowardNoir

Excellent. 'It's a Sin' was amazing, and I'm glad he's aknowledging that harmful ideas against LGBTQ+ people are still around. Anyone who disagrees with Russell's speech should watch It's a Sin and realise they are just as bad as the bad characters in it who believed 'it' was a sin. Oh the irony of people not understanding that.
This post, for me, really shows the misogny of the 'woke bloke'. If you remove women, womens biology, history, reality, just imagine a world where women did not exist; then this statement could be considered true. This guy only believes what he believes because he can discount the entirety of womans existance. LOJ has exactly this problem, he literally cant see women.
RedToothBrush · 14/10/2021 10:37

@NoNotMeNoSiree

Russell T Davies in a coming out in support of LGBT rights shocker Confused Hmm Wouldn't have expected anything else, not sure why anyone would be surprised. Good on him for speaking up
Who are the LGBA?

Obviously they were the ones throwing stones at gay people in the 80s. Right? Oh er... Hmm...

You have a choice to be a misogynistic prick or not if you are gay still.

You can chose not to follow the institutionally homophobic Stonewall who do not recognise the validity of same sex attraction and only believe in gender.

It takes a special kind of person to campaign for gay rights, be happily settled and no longer dating to then ignore the reality and inability to do the same thing freely 30 years later and instead jump on a bangwagon shouting bigot at those coming after you.

You have to be lazy, disinterested and more worried about your personal profile to just condemn others without paying attention to whats actually happening and being said to gay people and women.

RTD doesn't care. He is alright Jack.

NewlyGranny · 14/10/2021 10:33

The contagion thing was obviously wrong for gay people, but there is clear evidence of something along those lines among adolescent girls. How else would you understand the rocketing numbers and the clusters of friends all realising they are trans at roughly the same time?

If we ignore that sort of data, we are guilty of a failure of safe-guarding.

Duckypoohs · 14/10/2021 10:32

I'm disappointed although not surprised, has tempered my enthusiasm for him coming back to Dr who. Although he had nothing to with Dracula BTW.

AdmiralCain · 14/10/2021 10:19

NecessaryScene · 14/10/2021 10:03

So I think the 'its a moral panic, just like the 80s' thing while superficially attractive is really just a stick to beat people of my generation with.

And it's not an argument in itself.

"Crying wolf" is a thing, but the fact there have been false claims of wolves in the past is not evidence that there are no wolves now. It's something to bear in mind when weighting claims, but you still need to look at the evidence.

Indeed, that fairy tale ends up with a real wolf attack being ignored because of previous false claims.

I think this is a real wolf attack. And many people shouting now are NOT remotely the people who were anti-gay in the 80s. LGB Alliance is predominantly former 80s gay rights campaigners.

RoyalCorgi · 14/10/2021 09:40

It's interesting that it was the homophobic mother rather than the homophobic father who took most of the blame in It's a Sin. In real life, surveys show that women tend to be less homophobic than men.

And then of course, there's the writing out of the lesbians from history. Nothing new there. I guess it makes it easier to attack lesbians now - good women like Allison Bailey, Bev Jackson and Kate Harris - as bigots.

Onyernelly · 14/10/2021 09:28

I thought ‘It’s a Sin’ was very good at portraying the impact of AIDS on the gay community and also very good at showing how for some men the only time a woman’s life has any relevance or interest to them is when that woman is providing a service to men

Absolutely.

StillWeRise · 14/10/2021 09:20

That’s not how a lot of people saw it at the time though, was it? It wasn’t that uncommon in the 80s and 90s for people to regard same sex relationships as an unhealthy lifestyle choice which undermined the values and institutions on which society was founded - marriage and the traditional family unit - and gay people as doomed to a miserable, lonely life. A lot of people also genuinely feared that gay people would attempt to convert - or even prey on - their children, and that the acceptance of same sex attraction and relationships as valid and healthy would lead children and young people down paths they would later come to regret.

TBH there is some truth to this, however, it would not have been plausible then to argue that for example allowing same sex marriage changed or devalued heterosexual marriage

WRT to the fear of 'contagion'/conversion/preying- this again was never plausible, and we did not see the huge increase in numbers of young people saying they were gay, as we see currently with children and youg people saying they are trans. As for conversion/preying that again was never a valid argument. No heterosexual person would ever believe they could be 'converted' and predatory males are predatory males, whatever their orientation and we need robust safeguarding to deal with them.

So I think the 'its a moral panic, just like the 80s' thing while superficially attractive is really just a stick to beat people of my generation with. It works for a while. I initially approached this matter from a 'be kind' angle and accepted the grouping of T with LGB. But thinking about it more deeply showed that in fact there is no real common interest between LGB and T (I have yet to have it explained to me why there is, even during 'LGBT awareness training') and in fact what is being demanded by TRAs impinges on the rights and protections for women and girls and undermines rights for people who are same sex attracted.

WarriorN · 14/10/2021 06:03

@IvyTwines2

Sadly I'm disappointed, but not that surprised. There was a transhumanism plotline in Years and Years that looked like it was going to be a more questioning take on a teenage girl's trangender identification. The family's daughter became withdrawn from her parents, obsessed with transhumanism, and together with another teenage friend goes seeking surgery which leaves the friend blind. But then the daughter gets supported by her family, gets 'proper' transhuman surgery and her amazing body modification saves the day. And then there was It's a Sin, with, as already noted here, the young woman as emotional support human and all the blame for everything being heaped on the 2020s favourite hate figure, the middle aged woman.

Also the gender non conforming boy. I thought, oh they're just letting him dress how he wants. Ok, be good to see this played down.

It starts when he's quickly put in an item of girls clothes for some reason. Which is the most ridiculous reason to become trans and of course wouldn't work like that for a girl wearing boys clothes.

Last episode he has transitioned.

Whole series revolved around a gay male relationship and the women were carers.
