A vociferous campaigner for repeal the 8th campaign, Bernie Linnane, posted just now referring to JK Rowling as an "old trout", and freely admitted she has blocked people from the ARC twitter page, even though that page is a very useful source of info for anyone looking for advice on a termination. So in summary a woman makes derogatory comments about a someone's appearance, and decides that women who do not agree with her are not entitled to access information.

In fact the manner in which Ireland introduced the GRA " under the radar" has been held up as a model by trans rights groups internationally murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/2020/02/25/from-medical-assessment-to-affirmation-legal-gender-self-declaration-in-ireland/amp/

"A report on legal gender recognition in Europe published by international law firm Dentons in November 2019 praised activists in Ireland for passing legislation “under the radar” by “latching trans rights legislation onto more popular legal reforms (e.g. marriage equality), rather than taking more combative, public-facing approaches.”

This tactic is evident when Dr Chryssa, in her letter in the link above, similarly links marriage equality and abortion rights to the GRA 2015.

"Ireland is a country that changed its Constitution in 2015 and 2018 to implement human rights for gay and pregnant people respectively."

Contrary to the claim by Dr Chryssa that it was widely reported on, Self ID was only slipped through in the last few weeks of the legislation

" In December 2014 the Government introduced the Gender Recognition Bill, drafted on an assessment model basis, with applicants required to provide a supporting statement from a known medical practitioner.
"The Dáil (lower house of the Oireachtas) dropped the requirement for supporting evidence from a medical practitioner in the last few weeks of its passage and replaced it with a self-declaration approach."

Dr Chryssa is Greek and her husband is English. Does she not see the irony here?? Awful letter, false statements and tired mantras.

[quote saltedcaramelchocolate]"Anyone claiming that the legislation was somehow “snuck in” would need to be

Yet

A certain Irish TRA has stated very clearly that the GRA was slipped in "under the radar".

Will it ever occur to the formenists that telling Irish women that we don't know our own minds isn't the cunning plan they think it is?

For clarification, that quote was from Dr Chryssa's letter in the Times link by XXSex.

@Cailleach1

Bless, they have no arguments. They can only say that women's rights are foreign to Ireland, so bad. And Irish women are corrupted if they won't take it lying down.

Now, where was that previously preached?

The same theme keeps cropping up. From the formation of the LGB alliance in Ireland to any objection by women to Self ID. It is all blamed on Irish women being corrupted by UK influences. The fury they display that Irish women don't know their place speaks volumes.

Scary stuff. Have you seen the replies? Beneath all the self congratulatory back slapping on being kind and inclusive with cute little rainbow emojis is visible woman hatred. That young woman who is standing up to them is incredibly brave.
I'm so impressed by her, shes really standing up to some awful bullies. I don't know if any of ye are familiar with what going on at NUIG but a fair amount of the people who are pilling on are up in favour of this motion are subject to a disciplinary action for stuff they said about a member of a very litigous family (the Burkes) www.thecollegeview.com/2021/02/26/nuig-under-fire-for-alleged-social-media-censorship/+&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ie&client=firefox-b-d" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:9TG2axkVfEQJ:www.thecollegeview.com/2021/02/26/nuig-under-fire-for-alleged-social-media-censorship/+&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ie&client=firefox-b-d

Again I don't see how they don't see the irony of trying to shut down others right to free speech.

I think they think that they're inherently more clever and correct than anyone else, if this does pass, it would be an easy win IMHO for any of those groups to sue the SU for the allegations that are made in that letter

It turns out that Conall is in PBP and soo is looking to de platform other rival parties. I’m hoping that his entire motion will fall on this basis. twitter.com/saoirseconn1/status/1373054398591598592?s=21

"I think those things show indoctrination. 'It's just an acronym/description' comes up over and over again - never mind that it's patently obvious that a term used consistently in an abusive way is 'not just' anything."

Where has the idea that something being an acronym makes it benign come from? I'm sure we could all think of some offensive commonly used acronyms that are slurs but naming them would probably get the thread deleted.

The Standards for Public Affairs in Scotland said that its a derogatory term two years ago www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-48295000 .

I see it being tossed about a lot by young left Irish politicans on twitter, I wonder will there ever come a day when they realise that they shouldn't be saying it. At least you can scrub it off your own twitter, writing it into the IT, it will live forever

notyourhandmaid · 20/03/2021 03:30

@saltedcaramelchocolate

The very fact that Eibhlin stated that TERF is not a slur shows how little knowledge she actually has about this topic. So looking for *basic human rights " for people that already have them is another example of this. But it is all about "woke" points by people who can't be arsed to check facts
I think those things show indoctrination. 'It's just an acronym/description' comes up over and over again - never mind that it's patently obvious that a term used consistently in an abusive way is 'not just' anything. Same with the 'basic human rights' bit - this is straight out of the handbook. The next chapter is the 'denying our existence' one.

3timeslucky · 19/03/2021 11:14

What "basic human rights" does Eibhinn think trans people don't have? This phrase gets bandied about and appears to have no substance to it at all. It is do disrespectful to people who actually live lives where their human rights are disregarded.

But then again the mantra has no substance to it either so why am I surprised. I'm not sure if that's clear but I'm not sure if I'm allowed write the mantra or its acronym.

notyourhandmaid · 19/03/2021 10:46

"where a TENI employee says clearly that there are only about 50-100 TERFS in Ireland , that "we" know who they are and keep tabs on them*

Keeping tabs. Gosh - they really do want to scare us don’t they.

Sunlight sunlight sunlight.

Get it out in the open and everyone will see the absurdity of it.

@purplepizzabunny

Well in recent days, a recording of a podcast where a TENI employee says clearly that there are only about 50-100 TERFS in Ireland , that "we" know who they are and keep tabs on them. Same employee who cheerfully advocated smashing terfs out of existence.

podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8yMWNmZGU1OC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw/episode/NzcxODY1ZDMtNzQyNy00MGQ1LWJjYzUtODJlZjU0MzFhNzgx?ep=14

twitter.com/ConallEducation/status/1371131019592658949

Irish universities call for a motion to deem certain groups (needless to say it includes women's groups) as hate groups.

We keep tabs on TERFs, we know where they are? That's frightening.

Not at all in the spirit of advocating to improve things for one's own group while not taking away from anyone else, which it's the approach I would favour.

7Days · 19/03/2021 10:01

Absolutely, Fiona.
The world is full of problems and of course we are all at liberty to advocate for our own causes.
Unfortunately, none of us can demand that our own case takes precedent - it's a delicate juggling of allocating scarce resources among competing claims.
So the best thing to do, imo, is for trans rights activists to explain clearly how their vulnerability manifests, so as a society we can meet their requests as efficiently as we can without disadvantaging another group.

It's unlikely we will reach utopia but things can improve.
