Gather LM is saying that they had to give up the previous post because they left the area (to go to Goldsmiths) but they're now standing for the women's officer post in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Voting is on Sunday, apparently.

Well done Telesilla. I genuinely was feeling despondent they'd been deleted.

Can you add them here so there's a nice public record of before and after?

reallybadidea · 23/10/2018 18:44

Well they also removed the comment calling Venice a monger, so it's not all bad Grin

Telesilla · 23/10/2018 18:41

Long time lurker here, just joined.
I saw those FB comments and thought they wouldn't last long, so captured the lot. 47 image files
Then I did the same for the remnant half an hour ago. 9 image files.
It now reads like people are ranting at ghosts. Full marks for tidy conformity.

BlooperReel · 23/10/2018 18:28

All GC comments removed. They all now look like loons talking to imaginary people, fairly useful though as the silencing of any dissenting voices is very obvious.

reallybadidea · 23/10/2018 18:17

Am I going mad or have a bunch of GC comments been deleted?!

Badmoonsarising · 23/10/2018 18:08

Wonder if many women actually want the voluntary post of Women’s Officer. That FB Page is like a little club you can only be a member of if you tick all the approved boxes. I don’t trust Labour when i see who it’s made up of and how intolerant they are.

JetPlanes · 23/10/2018 17:51

Meant to also include this in the quote:
The people we encountered were far from marginalised. In fact they were highly educated, openly classist and aggressive.

JetPlanes · 23/10/2018 17:49

This part of that message above from the local community workers really stood out to me:

All that has changed is privileged students have adopted a set of gender identities that allow them to be considered marginalised.

It’s a disgrace that the people who are doing actual real work within the constituency are being ignored / told they are bigots

ShotsFired · 23/10/2018 17:43

How exceedingly crossmaking. I have a bad habit of leaving Chrome tabs open for hours but sadly not today, or I'd have been able to ensure they were recorded for posterity.

But yes, they have been on a censorship bender (the things you do when you are desperate, eh?). Funny, because now there are several posts refuting transphobia on a thread that has been thoroughly cleansed of any critical commentary. Given the anger I was reading earlier today, 'm not sure that approach is going to hold water for very long!

FekkoTheLawyer · 23/10/2018 17:26

Surely Lily just wants to be 'woman officer' since Lily doesn't actually appear to have actally done anything for women in their last post. If they get elected it will be an absolute nonsense - no track record, bullying, horrible spcial media comments, fragile temperament, no actual agenda apart from me/trans/MEEEEEEE.

What's the point - or does the position not actually have any point (is that the point - it's just a title as labour dont give a stuff about women a anyway?)

R0wantrees · 23/10/2018 17:25

There seems a great deal in common between this Labour FB group, the member of the 'radical' LibDem group who joined the recent thread:

& Scottish Greens as discussed on current thread:

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/10/2018 17:21

I see somebody in the FB thread saying that she'd checked the names of the people who'd been unenthusiastic about LM with "Compliance" and none were Labour Party members.

Good use of personal data.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 23/10/2018 17:17

I seem to have missed most of the GC comments.

To be fair, Lily is attending Goldsmith's now and probably therefore does live in the Lewisham Deptford constituency. Goldsmith's has several halls of residence dotted through New Cross and Brockley. Also, it isn't that unusual for students to get involved in local politics. Lily is, I think, doing a Politics degree.

Momentum, though. Even if Labour had a sensible attitude to gender politics and Brexit, even if Labour didn't have an antisemitism problem, even if Labour had a leader who was clever and principled, I couldn't vote for them while they're in thrall to Momentum. Far too reminiscent of Militant Tendency from the 80s.

Bejazzled · 23/10/2018 17:11

Oh dear. If even Labour members in a Labour area in London are struggling at a local level won't support at first attempt, that says a fair amount. Lily has profile others don't

And also, maybe the Labour members who are women want a woman to represent their rights.

LangCleg · 23/10/2018 17:08

I don't think I like the sound of "Compliance" very much.

It's a denunciation party these days, isn't it?

Are you now, or have you ever been...

qumquat · 23/10/2018 17:06

The Greenhouse sorry

qumquat · 23/10/2018 17:06

Yes just went onto FB and saw no gender critical comments at all. Just a lot screaming TERF. I live in the constituency and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Lily is elected. The Glasshouse 'No Terfs' sign was very popular in a local FB group. I'm thinking of moving...

I see they have deleted all the facebook comments, apart from the misogynistic ones.

My favourite comment. Bet she's a MNer 🙌

Lily M standing as women's officer again
Didactylos · 23/10/2018 14:47

I would really love to see a list of achivements that LM has made in their last role as Womens officer

Not the travelling and media puff pieces, or the exciting public engagement roles, being a bit of a tepid, rabbit in the headlights speaker, or being completely logically incoherent on the radio with Julia Hartley Brewer.

But the actual achievements in terms of the role of Womens officer, eg work engaging with local women and womens groups in the constituency and making sure women are fully involved in the local party and that their concerns help inform policy

Possibly added to that we could have number of former labour voters citing LM as a reason they have resigned from or will not vote for the party, number of abusive tweet incidents and gaffes removed from twitter, plus number of short lived twitter flounces. It might also be useful to have a tally of money, gifts and cute clothes declared.

Im sure all this information would assist the local CLP in Lewisham/Deptford to decide whether they want the stunning and brave international trans spokesperson with no local or grassroots connections parachuted in to become the person charged with promoting female engagement in the party.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/10/2018 14:45

From pencils post. This new politics doesn’t equate in our community or for the people we support.

I hope the labour party, or any other party that cares about working class women, take note of this.

DeRigueurMortis · 23/10/2018 14:34

Lily displayed Lily's lack of intellectual rigour by quoting the figures for the US prison population presumably gleaned from a cursory google search without any critical faculties being engaged.

Seems to be a common trait. Look at Ash Sarker on twitter claiming (I'm the basis of a "negative" twitter search) that Julie Bindel (founder of juice cut women) didn't care about women prisoners Hmm

But hey - don't let the truth get in the way of a good tweet...

DeRigueurMortis · 23/10/2018 14:31

Ponders how it's remotely "far left" to nominate a candidate for post who:

  • doesn't live in the constituency;
  • has a poor track record in their previous post;
  • has no legitimate experience for the role;
  • has repeatedly made statements that are false and thus has no credibility for stating the truth;
  • has repeatedly made inflammatory remarks on social media against the demographic they are purporting to represent;
  • Is supposedly in full time education at Goldsmiths.

Again I ponder how different that is to shoehorning in the Child of a Tory MP into a post to give them political experience and a platform?

The point being it's who you are that gave you the opportunity, not your own merits and hard work....

Infamy and credibility are rarely good bedfellows.
