We’re Still Here Conference 8th September: A report from the inside

Hi all

First off, I’m a regular poster, have been here for years under various usernames, it I’m posting here on a name change as I don’t want this traced to me.

On 8th September there was a conference held in London a Bloomsbury Baptist Church which was called We’re Still Here, which featured a variety of panels and workshops and was attended by many prominent people in the pro-GRA reform camp.

I decided to attend to find out what was being said as it was clear that they did not want anyone to attend that wasn’t a TRA or an ally.

What follows are my notes from the day. But first a few notes on attendance:

There were probably 80-100 people in attendance. Overwhelmingly white. Mainly older transwomen. A couple of transmen. Some Mermaids delegates. Some fellow travellers/ allies. And me.

Okay. So here’s my notes

  1. Health Panel: Chair was Dr Ben Vincent of GIRES.

Part of the discussion on this panel was around GPs reluctance to prescribe “bridging hormones”. GPs are reluctant/afraid to prescribe them for liability reasons. Apparently a brand of T-Gel was withdrawn and GPs are reluctant to switch brands.

There was then a bit of chatter about whether a person’s sex was relevant for healthcare stats.

Then there was discussion about trans children. Dr Vincent was very scathing about GIDS-said there was disgusting and unethical practices. BV spoke about dispelling the myths about desistance and the myths of ROGD- BV called this “concern trolling, malicious and ethically bankrupt”. BV would like a review of the whole system.

Then Dr Vincent said that they’d received a review copy of “Born in your own body” edited by Heather Brunskell-Evans and Michele Moore. BV is reviewing it for some Royal College and said “I will tear it a new arsehole”

Also (and they didn't want this tweeted) BV is also planning a book called Terf Wars which will be a “rigorous takedown of terf arguments” which is getting serialised as articled in some peer reviewed journal- I’m sorry but I couldn’t catch which one.

Dr Stuart Lorimer, of the Tavistock and Portman who was also a panellist- said that ROGD is “evidence free”.

There was a great deal of discussion as to the health risks for transwomen taking certain brands of hormones- one person said they knew three other people who’d died taking them, and they’d nearly died as well.

Why the intense interest in lowering the age of consent for everything to do with sex/sexuality/gender?

Those arguing for this - Fae (supporter of extreme porn, appeared in court and gave evidence in support of a man who created porn about raping, murdering and dismembering women), Bradley (social media pictures of penis out flashing, CBeebies cartoon children being anally raped), Tatchell (lower the age of consent and legalise 'consensual intergenerational relationships', Challoner and Challoner (one with a conviction for raping and torturing a ten year old while in the guise of a six year old little girl, thereby happily accepted by Stonewall as trans, and the other shares social media info regarding adult baby and furry fetish) - it goes on and on. None of these people can be regarded as disinterested parties when it comes to removing safeguarding from women and children.

#nodebate ain‘t the rallying cry of the 'TERFs‘ now, is it?

oopster At the Manchester meeting I attended, chaired by Posie Parker, there was a person who asked a question regarding the GRA act in Ireland. The replies to the person asking the question were civil.

On the other hand, at the same event, a meeting was announced by the Manchester Feminist Network, date and place mentioned. It was targeted by a protest.

deepwatersolo · 22/10/2018 09:06

oopster do you mean those certain meetings TRAs moved heaven and earth to prevent by forcing room reservation cancellations and threatening and exerting violence against the attendees?

Ereshkigal · 22/10/2018 09:03

What meetings would those be? And no, OP went incognito. Not "to debate". RTFT.

R0wantrees · 22/10/2018 09:02

But you were allowed to attend the event to debate presumably, unlike certain meetings round the country recently that only want to sing to the choir.

This is disingenous.

Someone called out Liberty to their face on Twitter the other day with regards to PIE Affiliated with them over 5 years. The parallels are so scary -this BBC article is a bit longer with more background. www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26352378

Badgerthebodger · 21/10/2018 21:04

Jilly that’s a really interesting point and something I’ve been thinking about as well. I’m on quite a lot of medication and the risk of suicidal feelings is listed as a common side effect on each one. It’s incredibly common in anti-depressant meds as well. I’m sure I remember something on here from GIDS saying that many of the children they see have co-morbidities including a lot of mental health problems, some of which are presumably being treated with anti-depressants.

I've not read the whole thread, so sorry if this has been covered,
"there was a great deal of discussion as to the health risks for transwomen taking certain brands of hormones- one person said they knew three other people who’d died taking them, and they’d nearly died as well."
I'm wondering, for all the talk of suicide, could hormones actually be killing as many or more trans people?
If so why are they pushing these things onto kids.
What research is being done about this?
You would think it would be of interest to the people at this meeting.
I know there was a thread about Lupron, including links to testimonials from women who had been prescribed it either for its intended purpose or off label. It did not make for happy reading.

deepwatersolo · 21/10/2018 19:56

If the state assigned every baby some gender, that would indeed be outrageous.
Luckily all the state does is record each baby‘s sex. Someone needs to tell Fae.

Trousered · 21/10/2018 19:53

I didn't chose a bloody gender. I refuse to be forced to submit to male dominance in this way.

Trousered · 21/10/2018 19:51

If you are wound up by all this deliberate distortion of human reality please complete this survey. It's couched in identify politics terms sadly but take the opportunity to tell them that law should not be misused in this way.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3401337-Attitudes-to-Gender-a-survey-being-used-to-write-a-new-gender-bill-in-the-UK

This research is funded by the government, I think they believed self ID was a slam dunk and no legal sex registration was the natural next step, and of course it is what Fae is driving at with the bonkers rant.... for....

Trousered · 21/10/2018 19:45

Fae is insane.
Note how this works. You did not choose that gender. The state assigned it. And you must now jump through all manner of hurdles to claim what was never their's to take.

Yep, when I was shagging the father of my kids a civil servant popped by to insert a preselected sperm at the appropriate moment. It took a few tries...

What is he smoking?

Datun · 21/10/2018 18:45

Tell kids that their parents know nothing, they should place their trust in adults and older teens who really get it - their new glitter family

Like Lactatia (ugh) - groomed by adults.

I can't rewatch it, but he says something like if your parents disagree, then get new parents. And everyone goes wow that's like soooo kewl.

placemats · 21/10/2018 18:11

If I rocked up looking like HB at an interview, I wouldn't get the position. But then I'm a woman.

Charliethefeminist · 21/10/2018 17:40

Aaaaand this is the Helen Belcher who has meetings with the BBC Head of Diversity.

Alternativefacts · 21/10/2018 17:20

Just got around to reading this - wanted to add my thanks and appreciation to TheHarpySings - what an amazing thing to do, well done, This really gives us an insight to the ways this TRA network is operating - and the underhand way they are planning to push through their objectives.

LangCleg · 21/10/2018 16:59

And this is why I keep banging on about the Allsorts guidance. It's not just in their secret squirrel conferences.

It's already in our schools.

Schools are adopting guidance recommending parental alienation, confidential disclosures and no multi-agency checks and balances. It's an infiltrating abuser's idea of paradise (and that infiltrating abuser could be anyone; trans or not trans).

placemats · 21/10/2018 16:03

Helen Belcher needs to have a word with themselves.

3TresTrois · 21/10/2018 14:51

Deeply disturbing.

Sonixx · 21/10/2018 14:33

Helen Belcher was annoyed at GC feminists using “emotive arguments” regards rape

This statement really stuck out to me as well. WTAF!

ohello · 21/10/2018 14:31

So very creepy!

CB also said that we “baby” children in our culture, whereas in other countries 12 year olds are considered old enough to fight in wars. I DON’T KNOW WHY SHE THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD COMPARISON.

I know why she said that. Pedophiles would say, "if you're old enough to fight then you're old enough to vote" -- and consent to sex, and everything else.

I'm guessing this will have to fought one person at a time? Get to know more people, especially parents and teachers, and then start sharing links and info.

I've already noticed several very public instances of trans telling lesbians and feminists that they need to "make a commitment to trans" (banners at the rally in manchester) and reminding everyone that feminism "cares about everyone". (No, feminism focuses on WOMEN!) And another instance where trans HATE IT when gc people mention that transgenderism and women's rights are 'in direct conflict' -- instead trans wants everyone to believe that the two groups are 'fundamentally intermeshed".

Nope, they're in direct conflict!

Fucking Pedos wet dream!! Hell no to the fuck no. Lucky my young DS is like news of the world, even when was told by grown up that they have to keep a secret no one is allowed to know except that group of children under care of that adult. I went bat shit! I was surprised amount of kids that didn’t tell their parents. The amount of times my child comes out of school but teacher said blah blah especially as we just gone through a year of teacher that was twisted fuck and this is kind of line of teaching that they pulled. Me arguing with my young DS because I brought him up to respect elders, same elders that have abused that.

No no no no. It not going to happen, over my dead body will I stand back and watch any child be drawn into this cult.

Dark twisted and sick going to be busy week next week contacting all my local children services and passing this information on incase MASH don’t.
