An MP who threatens to report another to the police for holding a meeting addressing the legitimate concerns of the British Public? There's a word for that: fascism.

ToeToToe · 16/10/2018 17:17

I'm thinking:

thefederalist.com/2018/02/20/rich-white-men-institutionalizing-transgender-ideology/

Big pharma. Men's rights. Reduce women's rights. Abolition of age of consent. Masons.

I'm also thinking Red Riding.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 16/10/2018 17:14

The Tories took a risk doing this now with Brexit hanging in the balance. Suggests it's pushed by
someone with signif amount of power or, that the
they were confident that of getting it through without anyone noticing. Odd though it doesn't fit well with May's desire to promote women (which seems genuine) though I'm sure they were looking forward to getting the 'woke' points

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 16/10/2018 17:11

What happened in prime suspect?

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 17:11

Every time I ask this question, the DH directs to Prime Suspect season 3.

I watched this early spring courtesy of Netflix algorithm.
It's worth watching.

Almost makes one wonder if there are MPs who have a vested influence or perhaps there is some leverage somewhere?

We need to know as this consultation isn't going to be the end. If it is being pushed by someone in the cabinet then if they don't get what they want now they'll try by another means until they do.

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 17:04

Why is this being pursued so aggressively when it's against all party and public opinion?

It really is madness, I can only worry that the GRA reforms are going to either pave the way for, or create a loophole for something.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/10/2018 17:03

Why would they be pushing this

There is an argument that if children are able to make huge life decisions like changing sex, they are also able to consent to sex.

There is another argument that suggests that adult AGPs need the children to legitimise their fetish (ie trans children prove the innate from childhood thing)

There is another argument that it's the Russians destabilising Western society.

It's certainly not just Stonewall.

ToeToToe · 16/10/2018 17:01

Can anyone think of a single occasion an MP has been threatened with police action by another MP in his own party?

This is utter madness.

CaptainKirks - I feel like I'm going in for conspiracy theories here - but yes, something big is going on. A couple of reports/polls have just shown that the majority of the Conservative party and MPs are against this change. Why is this being pursued so aggressively when it's against all party and public opinion?

John Bercow 'to quit as Speaker next summer'

That was always going to be the case.
What is interesting now is to see who is supporting him staying.
It speaks volumes.

I saw the first one a few hours ago and was going to post it on the old thread about John bercrow, but now the second link is all over the media.

I wondered if the first link is relevant to this thread?

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 16:56

The thing is it's clearly not about transsexual rights, that's as plain as day. Why would they be pushing this?

Why indeed?

Sorry the Bercow thing is about bullying. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45880134

If the BBC are describing it that way its interesting.

Times: 'John Bercow urged to quit over report into sex pest MPs
Speaker of the Commons is not up to the job, says standards chief'

(extract)
"Maria Miller, the Conservative chairwoman of the women and equalities committee, also called on Mr Bercow to resign and will challenge him to grant an urgent question on the report in the Commons today. “Bullying and harassment is coming right from the top. We have outstanding allegations directly against the Speaker, who is going to be one of the people considering the report,” she told the BBC.

The report details alleged sexual harassment by MPs, saying that women reported being abused in “vulgar, gender-related terms”. There were reports of “inappropriate touching”, including men “trying to kiss them, grabbing their arms or bottoms or stroking their breasts or bottoms”. Staff reported men putting their arms around women’s shoulders or waists or “pulling them into corners for close personal contact”. (cont)

I remember a few weeks ago, James Kirkup (I think) saying there was someone in the cabinet who is absolutely determined to get self-ID through. And that it was someone you really, really wouldn’t expect to take the woke position.

Bercow?

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 16:50

Something is going on here, i can't work out what, but it's much bigger than stonewall.

current thread following today's announcement by standards committee:

I know there are calls for Berciw to resign over something. Has said no but is going next year (hurrah!) but I don't think it's related to this.

LizzieSiddal · 16/10/2018 16:49

Does anyone know how the meeting today went in Parliament?

Did any other MPs turn up?

Redkeyboard · 16/10/2018 16:48

I really want to know which MP threatened to call the police about a bunch of women discussing safeguarding and their rights.

NameChangedAgain18 · 16/10/2018 16:48

Caulfield and Selous said some of their constituents had written asking them to attend, and Caulfield said that she would write to women and equalities minister Penny Mordaunt, who first brought the consultation about, to ask her to extend it."

Caulfield was one of those on the committee when Miller’s totally rigged trans report was produced.

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 16:47

continues:
Mr Davies called the consultation “flawed”.

“It’s based on the recommendations of the equality committee. They certainly didn’t go out and take evidence from women’s groups on what the impact might be of allowing people to change their gender without any checks and balances,” he said.

“Ideally I’d like to see it stopped and the whole process restarted after the government and ministers have had a proper conversation with women’s groups about their rights to protection.”

He said MPs who chose to attend the meeting may not have wanted to “justify themselves to the press”.

“It’s very difficult to raise this issue,” he added.

“I’ve already done that I’ve taken the heat for it and I’m happy to continue doing so.”

LGBT+ Conservatives, the official LGBT group in the party, have criticised Mr Davies for his views in the past. They have been contacted for comment."

So this would be, amongst others, Sue Pascoe LGBT+ Conservatives and newly appointed diversity & inclusion consultant for Channel 4?
