The last few days, there have been several claims of misandry on Feminist Chat. Please post examples here using a link and screen shot.

Thank you.

"How can I be a misogynist? I love my daughters! That's why I try and force them to comply with my view of how women SHOULD behave! It's better for them!"

  • Every misogynist with daughters, ever.
BertrandRussell · 27/02/2018 08:12

Yes, that always puzzles me about MRA. Do they really think feminists are so lost to decency that they don’t even care about their own sons? Personally, being the mother of a young man makes feminism seem even more urgent and significant to me.......

SophoclesTheFox · 27/02/2018 06:57

Ps, Prat, do you suppose that there is no one here who has been affected by male suicide? Are you that dim that you don’t get that feminists lose their brothers and husbands and friends to suicide too?

SophoclesTheFox · 27/02/2018 06:56

Well said, collidascope!

Will it land, though? I am not sure if Prat can set aside his obvious disdain for women for long enough. Ah well, no matter, he’ll be back here under another name in a month or so to tell us again about the 7%, Big Red, the proper feminism of Christina Hoff Somers and how we all laugh heartily about male suicide Hmm.

Collidascope · 27/02/2018 06:38

Prat, if you give a shit about male suicide, you really ought to be getting wholeheartedly behind feminism. It's the only movement that I can think of which should help reduce it. (No, MRA won't help because that's just a stick to beat women with.)

Feminism knows the world has a huge man problem. They're massively more likely to commit suicide, murder, mass murder, violent crime, sex crime. 95% of deaths and serious injuries on the road are caused by men. They're more likely to die on the road, more likely to speed, more likely to engage in aggressive and reckless driving. I wonder which sex was largely running the banks before the economic crash. Who started most wars? I'm also sure everytime a breaking news alert appears on the TV regarding terrorism, we all know what sex the perpetrator will be.

Feminists acknowledge there is a problem. That's the first step to changing it, and while you're going on about male tears, it just looks like you want to bash women with a stick. Male tears cups don't cause male suicide or men to commit the horrendous crimes they do. The way we socialise little boys does. The messages we give them about relationships (mum does the shitwork and is allowed to express a wide range of emotion and dad does the important, money-making work and never cries), about not showing emotion, about who runs the world (they'll be singing in schools hymns about God, the father, the male. They'll see that most politicians are men, most CEOs, most judges, most bankers etc), they'll be given cars and not dolls, they'll be given t-shirts with slogans about rebelling and taking risks, they'll be taught to despise girly stuff because it's soft, they'll watch porn and think women are there to be strangled, ejaculated on and generally dominated and hurt.

Feminism aims to fight all these damaging messages. Women are human though, and it would take the patience of a fucking saint for us never to get angry at the state of affairs which sees us murdered, raped, beaten up in our own homes, suffering fgm which no one is ever prosecuted for, routinely harassed, living in austerity because a bunch of reckless men were in charge of the banks, denied equal pay, having to repeatedly nag a man to do his share of the cleaning, told that men can actually be women too, etc. etc. et fucking cetera.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 06:02

If nobody within a political movement recognizes you as being part of that movement, you are not in fact part of that movement. I could claim to be a Tory, but nobody who's ever talked politics with me would believe me.

I know MRAs desperately want to pretend that their pet anti-feminist represents some sort of true spirit of feminism that's been hijacked by us evil actually-feminist witches, but it's nonsense. Tipped your hand a bit too obviously there, mate.

mamaryllis · 27/02/2018 05:40

I’m sure I have a copy of ‘who stole feminism?’ around here somewhere. Grin I think it’s shoved under ‘Overloaded’ - which reminds me - someone told me Imelda Whelehan wrote a pop culture thing about Bridget Jones, and I must order it!!!!!

thebewilderness · 27/02/2018 02:51

Male violence is the greatest human rights crisis the world has ever known. The only people men kill more often than women are men.
Men kill men and men kill women and men kill themselves.
Male violence is the greatest human rights crisis the world has ever known.

Terftastic · 27/02/2018 02:19

Christina HS was writing books on feminism before the phrase MRA even existed! She just seems to have been written out for her critique of modern feminists.

No she wasn't.

Terftastic · 27/02/2018 02:13

At least MRAs will emphasise NAMALT.

Of course they will Confused That's their raison d'être.

They will try to tell us that there are 2 men in the whole world who commit all the rapes, and they have fangs and horns - and drag women into alleyways. And everything else is just women regretting it the next day.

Pratcatcher · 27/02/2018 02:13

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 01:55

*I'm a feminist"

There has been much misandry in feminism and feminists often actively fight against initiatives intended to address men's issues solely for the reason that 'women have it worse' it seems.

I don't come onto forums like this to berate feminists but I saw this thread about misandry and once again it seemed that feminists were trying to deny its existence. I know I'm mentioning typical MRA tropes, but male violence is the archetypal feminist trope. Neither should be dismissed as insignificant.

Behold, the MRA pretending not to be one on a feminist site lifecycle.

PS Christina Hoff Summers is not a feminist. The only people who think she is, and reference her as such, are MRA. So, if you were trying to be subtle there...

Pratcatcher · 27/02/2018 01:54

I mentioned suicide. It's one of the principle issues targeted by men's rights events which are often protested by feminists as in my York Uni comment.

I don't hate all feminists at all but there seems to be an odd aversion to calling out the toxic ones. At least MRAs will emphasise NAMALT.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 01:46

Nobody's even mentioned suicide on this thread, let alone laughed at it, Prat - you shocking straw man builder you.

He's got a whole straw army awaiting deployment.

Terftastic · 27/02/2018 01:45

This is true - the boys don't cry, strong man thing that men are taught, socialised with.

You know - the sort of gender stereotypes that feminists have spent decades trying to break down.

Men are less likely to talk about their emotions, less likely to seek help, more likely to choose a violent suicide method.

This is not feminist's fault.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 27/02/2018 01:44

Two dead women per week in the UK, killed by men.

Women killed by men. Two per week.

Do you have anything to say about that?

Pratcatcher · 27/02/2018 01:41

I didn't say that but I agree that less men will reach out in any way for help before killing themselves. The statistics bear this out.

Terftastic · 27/02/2018 01:37

I know that's what you meant. You're accusing women of attention seeking cries for help. Dismissive. You'll be calling us hysterical next.

Pratcatcher · 27/02/2018 01:35

Lots of 'attempted suicides' are cries for help. That's what I meant. You don't fail in jumping off a high rise carpark which is what a surprising number of young men actually did at the shopping centres I used to help manage security at.

Terftastic · 27/02/2018 01:30

No you're not - you're talking about women. You are dismissive of all women. You've just shown it in your last statement about women's suicide.

You just think think you can hide your misogyny if you say 'feminists' - while misrepresenting what a feminist is.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 27/02/2018 01:30

So you're moving the goalposts again!
We anticipated that anyway!
We do know, by now, how MRAs operate!

Pratcatcher · 27/02/2018 01:29

I'd also ask why it's my responsibility to deal with the small number of men who commit violent crime, or even call out misogynistic behaviour (which I nonetheless do because I hate it). I don't catcall women or rape them etc so why is it my problem?

Pratcatcher · 27/02/2018 01:26

I don't expects feminists to deal with men's problems, just to not actively try and obstruct men dealing with them. And I'm not talking about 'women' I'm talking about feminists.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 27/02/2018 01:23

But why can't men sort out these problems for themselves? Why are you expecting women to sort out your problems for you? Why can't men solve these problems for themselves and other men, without making women falsely responsible for them?

Why can't you take responsibility for your own stuff, instead of expecting women to take on the shit in your own life?

DixieFlatline · 27/02/2018 01:20

But... you still haven’t mentioned Erin’s dog?!
