The last few days, there have been several claims of misandry on Feminist Chat. Please post examples here using a link and screen shot.

Thank you.

Do you really think being accused of not seeing dirt is offensive and oppressive to men?

Along with all the other hilarious stereotypes about them? Yes.

But in general it’s not feminists who believe that men are incapable. It’s other women who infantilise men, roll their eyes at men’s so-called incompetence and rush off to Boots to get meds for manflu whilst they themselves are struggling with colds, housework, childcare etc.

That Boots ad perfectly demonstrates the lie that patriarchy/ society / whatever has sold us. That women should do more of the grunt work because men are too incompetent.

Similar arguments I’ve seen by actual published authors are: girls have more empathy and don’t mind reading books about boy protagonists whilst boys can’t handle reading about girls.

Women have empathy and release oxytocin when ironing shirts for their family because it’s all so caring. That’s why women are better at housework. And should do more of it.

It’s a coping mechanism given to us. A pat on the head to stop us getting pissed off. And it’s been around since Victorian times when women starting getting stroppy.

That was when the Angel in the House gubbins came about - the idea that men should do the important well paid stuff because women were morally superior. Twisty twisty crap.

Feminists know men aren’t incompetent and feminists believe that men are well capable of empathy. Feminists aren’t the ones with a low opinion of men.

Wow, I didn't realize that Google was out of operation. This is unprecedented.

PatriarchyPersonified · 25/02/2018 10:06

Tells

Why don't you tell me what it's about? I'm told by pretty much every mainstream feminist source that feminism is just about equality. On those terms myself and the vast majority of men are feminists.

However now it appears there is more to it.

If we all achieve gender equality, then what more do you want to get?

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 10:02

I'm puzzled by the OP"s comments about my posts. What I said was I don't think the poster who started the "when I see a little boy I wonder if he is a rapist" thread was in good faith Most , although not all, replies said it was unreasonable

I clearly said it had been deleted so to say
Lass didn't say that thread was called out by members of the Feminist Board as being unreasonable and goady fuckery, before it was deleted would tend to suggest the OP has a reading problem.

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 10:00

“A significant minority were along the lines of 'hardly any rape allegations are false so the bastard obviously did it'.

It's this kind of stuff I am talking about.”

And that is saying “all men are rapists”? Really? I am prepared to say, based on a long life and much life experience and statistics and data that most men accused of rape are rapists. That is a very different thing to “all men are rapists”

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 09:59

Because if it's not about equality then what's it about?

If you don't know how are you a feminist man? Perhaps you should do some research? Google is your friend.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 09:58

Women creating a movement by and for women? That's wicked, that is. Clearly she's a witch.

(Adjusts pointy hat)

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 09:58

I think the claims of misandry are caused by confirmation bias.

TerfsUp
OP, it would have been helpful if you had provided evidence of your own rather than just starting a thread and expecting other people to respond.

OK, here's the 2 that stood out;

Black people commit homicide more frequently according to stats but nobody is advocating a return to apartheid. I encounter a lot of misandry in feminism in general and I really want to believe that this anti-trans narrative isn't just elicited by a general disdain of those born with a penis.

I also have an issue with the misandry prevalent in SOME of the anti-trans voices ( I do recognise that not all people who are against self-id are anti-trans but there are many) Yes, men as a class commit the vast majority of violent crimes. But that doesn't mean that any individual man is more likely than any individual woman to be violent.

IMO misandry is a word made up by MRAs and it is used to counter legitimate feminist argument. It just says "shut up women, listen to us men, we'll tell you how to do feminism the right way".

I love feminism, I love how it's changed me. In fact, I might start a thread about that. Note that I wrote might. I'm not usually a thread starter. o

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 25/02/2018 09:56

'Misandry', as just demonstrated by Lang seems to amount to having opinions without being concerned about whether strange men on the internet agree with them or not.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 09:56

As long as there are pancakes while you're there.

PatriarchyPersonified · 25/02/2018 09:56

Tells

Because if it's not about equality then what's it about?

Surely the end state of getting rid of the 'patriarchy' is to achieve equality?

If it's anything else then it's not equality your after, it's just reversing the current system, which doesn't make anything fairer or more just.

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 09:55

Bollocks (epithet choice intended). Messed up the italics. Now I will sit on the naughty step.

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 09:54

That's the problem right there.

Too. Fucking. Easy.

Patodp · 25/02/2018 09:54

Along with all the other hilarious stereotypes about them? Yes

And your justification that women are not responsible when they do this because of patriarchical oppression is infantilising dogma

It's a strange sort of prejudice against men that ends with having all their housework done for them.

I am fully aware that women are capable of misandry, but giving them a free pass to avoid all housework is not an example of this.

Flomper · 25/02/2018 09:51

After 20 years of working in a maie dominated environment, probably the same one as Patriachy, I have become a bit of a misandrist I think. I see and hear how men my age and older perceive and talk about women, and it aint pretty. Years of watching my male partner become more and more lazy and do less and less to help contribute to running the home has reinforced it. Its lived experience in my opinion and you cant help your experiences shaping those opinions. I know its NAM etc etc, but it sure is a lot of them that I've worked with over the years. Particularly the now-MRAs who have been left by their long-suffering wives and the ones who have been passed over for promotion because they are lazy and less comitted and dedicated that the few women around, who have so, so much more to prove.

The good news, from my point of view, is I see it changind in the younger generation behind me. Its the middle aged men that like to police how women think.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 09:51

That's the problem right there.

Can you please explain your actual problem with feminism being about freedom from patriarchy.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 09:50

See that, Lang? You're a problem, you are. It's the naughty seat for you, young lady.

Well let's be accurate-some of the posts did that- about half went along with it.

Not the particular post you were referencing though. Most quickly slammed it down and it was deleted.

Like what

Like Langs comment directly after yours.

That's the problem right there.

PatriarchyPersonified · 25/02/2018 09:45

Bertrand

Im sure your right that it's never been explicitly stated that all men are rapists etc.

My point is more the implication. Ive seen threads on here in the past where it is strongly implied (by a minority of posters) that this is the case.

One in particular sticks in my mind where an OP asked if they should believe their male friend who was being (informally) accused of rape by a woman who sounded like she had mental health problems. Most of the responses were sensible, i.e listen to both sides, don't make judgements, let the police deal with it etc.

A significant minority were along the lines of 'hardly any rape allegations are false so the bastard obviously did it'.

It's this kind of stuff I am talking about.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 09:43

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 09:42

See my original post,I haven't labelled anyone as being a misandrist.

I can't be arsed to read back. What with being a misandrist who has no interest in the opinions of men an' all.

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 09:40

I have been told many times that all feminism is, is equality.

MORE MISANDRY AHEAD ALERT!

That's the wank feminism, my friend. Feminism is by women, about women, for women. It is the movement for the liberation of women from patriarchy.
