How old are the pregnant women that you know? And what baby are they on?

I'm 31. None of my friends have had kids or are close to trying, all the pregnant women I see around look much older than me. The only lady who i know is pregnant is a 43 year old member of hobby group who is having her second.

I know the average in my area is 31 but i don't see any younger mums about and am curious.

30s

It dependants on social circle and affluence I think. More affluent areas are more career driven and likely later babies. Less affluent areas likely earlier babies.

MrsCillian · 21/10/2026 19:26

I'm early 40s. All my friends have finished having babies and have late primary/secondary age children. Most pregnant women I see around look maybe 10 years younger than me.

Jonasate · 21/10/2026 19:26

I was 31 and my mum friends with babies the same age are all early to mid 30s. The majority of my antenatal group was around the same age too.

GinaRevva · 21/10/2026 19:27

Poohead17 · 21/10/2026 19:28

All my uni friends aka educated people had kids 32-38
Others I know (3 GCSE passes between them) had kids oldest 22 year old, and even then this uneducated bunch viewed her as over the hill

Gettingbysomehow · 21/10/2026 19:30

Dsis was 47 1st baby
Everyone at work had 1st babies at 40ish then more later on.
I dont know anyone young having them.
I had mine at 21.
Im not uneducated either. I have 2 degrees and an MSc. After baby I might add and a career.

AWellTroddenPath · 21/10/2026 19:30

Got a toddler and baby, was 31 and 33 when I had them. Would probably have another but cut off would be 36 for me. I’d be too tired to have a younger child when I hit 40 but that would be #3 for me, so am tired enough as it is!

MiddleAgedDread · 21/10/2026 19:33

I only know one person who’s pregnant right now and I’m not sure how old she is, mid-late 30’s I think. My peers are in that age group where they’re too old to be having babies but still too young to be having grandbabies!

fendti · 21/10/2026 19:36

The only one I know of at the moment is 37. Having her second. I had mine at 29, 30 and 32. Would've liked a fourth but have only just felt ready and I'm 36 now and feel too old to conceive again

RaspberryRuffle87 · 21/10/2026 19:38

I had four kids by 28. My friends has theirs in 20s and early 30s.

MellowSubmarine · 21/10/2026 19:39

Mainly early 30s for the pregnant friends I know, but when it comes to mums at the school gate I’m a terrible judge of age! I have a 7&4 yr old and most mothers of their friends I’d guess between 35-45 yrs old.

But there’s a wide range - I was at a 4 year old’s birthday party the other week and one of the mothers there was 49, a couple of the others could have been 20 years younger than her.

AgeingMillennial · 21/10/2026 19:39

I went to a girls grammar and had my first in my mid 20s which was very very unusual. Out of 120 girls I think I was the 2nd or 3rd to have children. Now we’re all 34/35, and I would say about half have children (extrapolating the sample I’m aware of). Certainly no more than that. Most of them in the last couple of years.

I also sadly know a lot of women who have recently embarked on IVF due to infertility, mostly unexplained. My best friend also confided in me recently that she hasn’t been using contraception for a couple of years since her wedding but no pregnancy yet (she’s not overly concerned as she’s a bit blasé about motherhood).

The last 3 pregnant women I know were 31, 37 and 42 (all first babies).

This is me, I would like a 3rd but I would be 36 by the time they were born and that just feels too old for me personally.

All my uni friends aka educated people

helana · 21/10/2026 19:51

Honestly, I think getting your child-bearing out of the way earlier is a great idea. My ideal would have been to get on that after uni and start my career a bit later, like late twenties and the kids would be in school. But this grand plan all depends on having found the right partner!!!

JustaSongAboutPingPong · 21/10/2026 19:53

Only know one Woman who is PG at the moment.

She’s 40 and it’s her first. Didn’t meet her DP till late 30s.

IggyAce · 21/10/2026 19:57

Early 20s 1st
Early 20s 2nd
mid 20s 3rd
40 and their 5th.

peckishcats · 21/10/2026 19:59

Two. Both 30's. Neither of them are in the UK.

Doctordoolittle · 21/10/2026 20:00

I’ve just turned 38 and I’m 30 weeks pregnant. Many of the other women at my pregnancy yoga and Pilates classes are my age or very similar.

28 to 33 years old is the typical age of a first time mum where I come from (middle class village and small middle class market town 4 miles away.)

Some posters will say everyone they know had their first at 45 though, so be prepared for that!

It's not that weird to have babies in your 20s. Women still do. Much more common than early to mid 40s.

TheCabbageMerchant · 21/10/2026 20:00

Most people I know having babies these days are 35+. Might be a reflection of where I live.

Sunbringer · 21/10/2026 20:01

I’m the same age as you Op, one friend had her baby at 29, my sister at 30, my best friend is trying at 32. Nobody else has even mentioned it… at least 20 of us. There’s just no babies around.

I would have been trying now, but DH was made suddenly disabled in Jan by an illness so it’s been put off. Which scares and saddens me.
