Honestly what would you think of sisters both with gem stone names?

Honest opinions guys what would you think of sisters with gem names along the lines of pearl and jade or Ruby and Amber? Not Amethyst and Sapphire. Sorry for posting in 30 days it’s so there’s no digital footprint of anyone saying it’s shit 😂

I once knew a family whose children were all named after different models of Ford cars and vans. Gemstone names are fine.

Thanks I did sort of think the same thing none of the four gem names I like rhyme. So to me sounds less match than poppy and Maisie for example especially considering the average school kid dosent have a great knowledge of precious stones and once they’re adults they will be living separate lives anyway

Pearl isn't awful, it is just vintage, like Ruby used to be. Some names are coming out of retirement big time.

DP and her sister have two of the names you mention.

While they both like their names (although SIL thinks hers is a bit of a "stripper" name), they both hate the fact that their names have a "theme". It seems to be an issue of their parents not thinking of them as individuals (they used to dress them the same as kids as well, which I think has also fed into this).

They'd both much rather have first names that had absolutely no connection with each other

I know older women ( sisters) Ruby and Pearl. They are friends of my aunt, i quite like it, they are not "twee" just ordinary women,

OP you don’t need a pair of names though, you can go for Amber and Poppy for example, it’s not matchy named or themed names, I think most people would prefer not to have themed name with their sibling. I don’t think many others will notice or care though

It was very common when those sort of names were fashionable the first time round in the early 1900's. I knew of at least two elderly ladies who were called Pearl (for example) and whose sisters were named something like Beryl or Ruby. So I don't see what the difference is now that they've made a comeback!

I am not a huge fan but the matching names wouldn't register with me. They are quite common names round here but tend to be from not so middle class families TBH.

I wouldn't think of amber as being a gem tbh. I think of it as tree resin!

Forgetting that though both names are okay together.

My grandmother was one of 16 siblings and the girls are named after gemstones until they ran out of ideas and went onto flowers. Then the boys are names like George, Reginald and Basil - no other herbs used either! It's a weird combination in a family tree if listed only by age but not by sex. If you've just got the two, why not. Have a rethink if you do have a third as boy's gemstone names are more difficult.

I already know two families with sisters called Amber and Jade, so it wouldn't be unique. I quite like those names though as well Ruby (not so keen on Pearl because I think it sounds like an old lade, but 20 years ago so did Ruby). I think I prefer gemstone names to other ways of matching names like starting with the same initial or rhyming. If you like it then go for it!

Didn’t say it won’t, just that it hasn’t. It’s an awful name, just like Edith, so who knows! I’ve never met a child called Edith or Agnes though, only older ladies. I didn’t even know it was a gemstone name until
today though so I’ve learnt something new
