Feeling less safe alone in daylight: is anyone else noticing this?

I don’t feel any of these. However I don’t feel safe walking out alone if in a forest.

It’s could be you were vigilant and avoided something or you are anxious and there was no threat. It’s really hard to say.

You sound incredibly paranoid and sexist. Being cautious & vigilant is sensible but this was so far beyond either of those, that it’s no longer visible

If you feel intimidated by non white people on the streets have the courage to say so. Don’t weasel word about it.

And can I add that I feel very intimidated by largely white men of all ages on many weekends when I lived in Glasgow due to the football and alcohol and violence and sexist culture .

I don’t know where you get the idea that women are so well treated in this country.

These (British) men I am referring to are drunk, leery, violent with each other and generally antisocial.

I find it interesting it’s just these young black men you find scary.

People act as if the streets were so safe before these “men off the boats came”and it’s laughable.

Even in Scotland which has had decades battling their horrendous violence and drug problem certain racists are now trying to blame it on the immigrant men because some of them are dealing.

Okay yes maybe that’s the case some are dealing and/or using, and i am not excusing it but hardly surprising that young men not allowed to work and made to feel they don’t belong would end up involved in drugs.

But either way they are absolutely not the cause of the drug or gang problem in Scotland. I grew up there in the 90s when it was like 99% white and people were still getting stabbed for wearing the wrong colour of football top back then and the drug problem was very visible in Glasgow City centre with drug addicts walking about like zombies and one tried to mug me when I told him I didn’t have any change 😂

Take my area for example - lots of young men in balaclavas in whizzing around on bikes, some engaged in anti-social behaviour and some not.

Also lots of older seemingly unemployed men that sit and drink in the park at all times of the day when they’re not lining up in the pharmacy to get their methadone.

I suppose no-one will make an angry Facebook page or frothy mumsnet thread about them because they’re predominantly white with the odd Black or mixed race kids thrown in among the younger ones.

I'm retired so there is no need, I don't have to leave the house for work, if I want to go out DH will come with me, it's not like the old days when you had to go to the bank and shops

I have been the woman being screamed at and intimidated and threatened by these men. I have been there at our meetings with these masked men threatening us. I have many friends who have been at these events throughout the country. Yes it did happen. Look it up. All well documented.

Deny it if you want. But don't have the hypocrisy to accuse others of creating fake news if you do.

But where on earth do you live that you feel so unsafe? (I mean, approximately, I don't mean you need to give your address!)

I do go out but with DH, I don't not ever go out, just not alone, I just live in a fairly run down average town. The high street isn't very pleasant so I avoid and DH walks to the shopping centre with me as it's through the jitty for about half a mile or we go in the car. I just don't walk round the town alone

I don't think this is uncommon for older people.

About two decades ago I did focus groups with older people and it was a revelation to me how vulnerable they felt. They know that they are not physically able even to run away from danger let alone fight anyone off. The people I spoke to were predominantly living in poorer areas. They were very conscious of how vulnerable they were and most of them certainly did not go out when it was dark anymore because of this.

I am obviously not hanging about where men who like wearing balaclavas and all black go to film their social media posts. If you see them everywhere you go then maybe that is why you see them as more of an issue than the ones that were near me that I see as an issue.

They are all men. That is the long and short of it. Angry men with nothing mind other than violence. That is the issue.

I'm just basing it on my parents and and aunts, all in their eighties and still regularly walking and/or taking public transport into the city centre to shop, meet people, or whatever. Small city (c 250k) with what I would deem 'average' amounts of petty crime, antisocial behaviour and drug use.
