I feel like I am going insane trying to explain why the health of me and DH, and the wellbeing of our children is more important than SIL + her husband bringing their dog along to family events which is essentially just a treat for them.
DH and I are both allergic, our 3yo is also seeming like they are going to be allergic and is frightened of the dog, and I’m pregnant again.
Despite saying very clearly that the dog is not welcome in our home, and that if the dog is present at other family events we will not be attending unless the event is outside and dog is on a lead at all times, we are still being asked to work towards full inclusion of the dog at all times, as if we can just learn to get over our allergies! In hindsight we should have kept the hard line that we just wouldn’t have anything to do with the dog but we were getting pressure from other family members to compromise.
I am being bombarded with messages about it every time it’s someone’s birthday. DH ignores it and tells me to do the same - but they message me BECAUSE he ignores it.
The latest update is that if they have to compromise around their dog’s access to family events then we should have to compromise around our children’s access to family events!
