You see this is what I have heard but look below your reply someone still said I should get both. I honestly am
baflfled x

You can get LCWRA and child element together but not LCWRA and carers element.
Google says you can get LCWRA and carers allowance.

Yes this explains it you can’t get CE with the LCWRA unfortunately. I missed the comment were it was said she claims that. Sorry xx

Aw so sorry to hear that :( what evidence did you send? I hope you have the strength for MR and that your other one gets approved...fingers crossed xxx

Thank you. I didn’t have much evidence as he’s on waiting lists for physio, OT and for assessment for DCD. I sent nursery and reception class reports I had to self refer him GP as wouldn’t do it, so I sent the 15 page form as well as a 20 page day and night care diary. I didn’t take it all in earlier, will have to wait for the statement or reasons or call again. One of the night care reasons is that he’s not medicated and sounded like they skipped past the issues in the school reports and said he’s well behaved at school! Xx

Aw no :( sounds like you worked hard to put everything together for it though so can imagine how disheartened you must feel :( my son is on waiting list for ASD and DCD so we haven't much evidence either :/ got his ASD referral from his primary school which is detailed and his send plan from school but school contradict themselves a bit really and often say he's fine at school so I am expecting a decline as well :/ hope you are ok, just such stress on top of everything else isn't it xx

Emz73 · 12/10/2026 19:57

shejokes11 · 12/10/2026 16:59

Hey, I wonder why they have declined both of your children do you mind stating what conditions etc and did you fill the form out yourself and send all relevant evidences? X

Maybe bad luck with DMs. Yes I did the forms myself and my first one (current MR) for my 4yo I didn’t go into enough detail really either. He has, hyper mobility, lower limb instability, ankle instability, overpronation, hindfoot misalignment, muscle tightness, poor balance has to have physio daily, in constant pain, he has a walking tolerance of under 5 minutes, his legs just buckle under him and he falls, that also happens just standing. He can’t walk up stairs etc has to go in a buggy everywhere. He then has a blood condition where his blood is thicker than normal so have to constantly monitor hydration, severe reflux has to sleep next to me as he chokes in the night, wakes constantly with pain/reflux on bad night every 20 mins good night every 1.5-2hrs, most of the time sick and choking which is scary, he can’t blow his nose so I have to clear his airways so it’s even worse if he has a cold. bladder and bowel issues he’s still in nappies, which he can wet through at night. I have to help him with poo as he can’t push it out fully himself, eczema, development delays and possible autism. On waiting lists it took nearly a year for physio. He’s been prescribed custom made boots and insoles. When I applied he was still waiting for them to be made I sent the orthotics report but the DM decided that the boots and insoles would be sufficient to manage his pain and mobility, and care is no different to a child of the same age xx

I put what I could into it really. It’s hard especially when waiting lists are so long. I had just done a MR so gave it kind of the same approach. I think there is a bit of luck of the draw with who looks at it aswell. I was prepared for a no on mobility even though he does have problems, he can’t walk very far and doesn’t have danger awareness he’s bolted into the path of a moving car before, I was so lucky to be able grab him but he’s more able in comparison to my youngest struggles with walking. He’s up constantly through the night aswell. I haven’t had a nights sleep in 5 and half years, I just have grab what I can during the night! If it’s not one it’s the other or both at the same time. I literally don’t know how I’m still going, I do get through a fair bit of coffee. Xx

Honestly whilst reading it I believe you should have been given the DLA. However I think the conditions you listed need to be under a broader term. For example your sons condition one of them can be listed as muscle dystrophy - when using these broader terms it helps as it’s much mroe clearer for the DM. Another one possibly incontinence bowel syndrome - etc. Try the above and hopefully it should make a drastic difference. Try also getting the GP transcripts and list of medications referrals etc

Thank you. I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting down a condition he hasn’t actually been diagnosed with, especially when it wouldn’t match his medical records. Muscular dystrophy is a completely different condition.
I did use a lot of medical terminology in his MR, matching what’s in his medical reports. For example, rather than just saying he has a blood condition, I referred to his polycythaemia.
I also submitted his GP patient summary, physiotherapy and orthotics evidence, along with a 27-page day and night care diary covering four days and nights, and a six-page letter explaining the additional help he needs and why I believe the original decision was incorrect.
Although I’m now nervous I’ve went too far with that! 🙈 xx

I’m just giving examples sorry for that - but I think you get what I mean etc - however i would also get a doctors letter may cost you some money up to £40- but literally it’s specifically for the DlA you can ask them to list the diagnosed /undiagnosed conditions and referrals and medications and a little bit about how much care he needs etc and support letter. This has helped me and this is coming from someone who sent literally a referral letter, gp paid letter, & a social worker letter all in support of the condition my child has x

Emz73 · 13/10/2026 06:40

Thank you, I’ll definitely bear that in mind. It’s been a battle getting anything here, even getting hold of his GP patient summary was a performance! 🙈
I’m now 14 weeks into his MR, so I’m not sure I’d want to delay things further while waiting for a GP letter. But it’s certainly something worth exploring if his MR is unsuccessful.
With the refusal for my other child yesterday, I may be going through the whole process again! 😩 I’m waiting for his statement of reasons before deciding how best to approach that one. xx

Lynseyxx · 13/10/2026 10:23

6/8 rang today and told me it’s not with anyone yet! ( been told twice on 2 occasions it’s with DM and then 2 times it’s not) like hitting a brick wall! She then said “won’t be much longer, looking at few more weeks” good luck everyone ringing today xx

I have the same scan date as you. I submitted some additional evidence a couple of weeks ago so hoping they have it before a decision is made

They seem to be on the end of July now. So anytime this or next week, although a few seem to slip through the net, for example some June are still even waiting x

Scan date 04/09. Received a letter today dated 06/10 saying thank you for your claim if we have enough information we will write and tell you whether you can get DLA. We will make a decision as soon as possible.

Lulubells95 · 13/10/2026 16:40

I feel like it's been slow today on hearing about decisions and backpay from people lol, makes me stressed they're not moving quick enough haha. I'm so done with this wait 😭...I think if I have to do an MR I may lose my mind. Just want to know either way ..seen people in NI get decisions so quick lol why can't it be like that.

Scan date is 03/08
