just wondered because of the vile namechanger on the vile thread.

Yes we track name changes. This is our policy on nicknames as per our talk home page:

You are free to change your nickname but please note that we don't allow nickname changes for inflammatory, malicious or misleading purposes.

We will always contact someone who breaks our nickname rule and usually will suspend their ability to name change and/or ban if appropriate.

Cheers.

your not wrong noddy, bad vibes imo

OP posts:
noddyholder · 22/06/2010 09:00

I think they probably could find out esp if it was esp vile and tehy needed to deal with it Haven't seen teh thread so can't comment but this place is weird atm

2shoes · 22/06/2010 08:57

there are some views that are so wrong though(as in this case) that there isn't much else to say.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 22/06/2010 08:56

I haven't even read the bloody thread, just came on to say ooooh yes like Churchill when the question was 'do MNHQ know who namechangers are?'

TrillianAstra · 22/06/2010 08:55

I guess the difference is that daftpunk wanted to be associated with those views.

It sounds like the person in question here didn't agree with the OP at all, so wouldn't want her (I assume her, we don't have many men) name linked with those opinions in people's minds.

I'd like to think that if I posted on a forum and was absolutely wrong about something that someone would stick up for me and say 'Trillian, you are wrong, very very wrong, but everyone stop calling her a cunt please, that's unnecessary'

2shoes · 21/06/2010 21:53

imo it would help if MN HQ posted just saying they had contacted the troll name changer.
at least then it would "look" like they were doing something.
at least with daftpunk we always new it was her iynwim, she didn't hide behind a name change.

FabIsGettingFit · 21/06/2010 19:21

I reported it, asked questions and all I got was We have deleted this.

BitOfFun · 21/06/2010 19:10

Well I just hope that MNHQ has had some time to clarify what was going on and will be able to reassure posters that they do not tolerate disablist sentiment on the boards. Given that daftpunk posted similar things and was never banned, I really can't see why it would be justified to put anybody's head on a spike for asking people to stop calling their friend a cunt. MNHQ will be able to find out if they were the same person or not, presumably.

2shoes · 21/06/2010 19:03

HecateQueenOfWitches I sort of agree with you,
I didn't report until today, I got angry as the thread was being "used to educate" and the feelings of people with loved ones with sn were being over looked.
this idea that if some one posts a vile op, realises that they won't get any support, then suddenly says oh hang on I have sn........well it is a bit far fetched.
the "friend" supported the op by posting how nice they were(or words to that affect, got annoyed that the op was called names.....wtf did they expect.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2010 19:00

oh i didn't know the friend haed been on

FabIsGettingFit · 21/06/2010 18:58

The SN in a restaurant one has been deleted.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 21/06/2010 18:57

I thought, 2shoes, that they said that the OP had many good things about them but that on this they wholeheartedly disagreed. But the op was not, to them, a 100% horrible evil person with not one redeaming feature.

I understand that deleting is probably more about knowing that MNHQ feel that anti-disabled threads and comments are just as unacceptable as sexist or racist threads and comments but I for one don't think things like this - or racism, or sexism etc should be deleted. Because to me it does nothing. If the thread is deleted will we all forget it? Will none of us remember what was said? Will we think that nobody holds such views?

When I was a kid me and my friends used to 'take back' - if we'd had a fight or said something horrible, we'd "take it back" and we'd all pretend that it hadn't been said.

But it had.

And pretending it hadn't was pointless.

You know?

Some people are horrible, say horrible things, have opinions that hurt us. They do and we can't hide from that. We can try to become harder, that's all we can do. If we're feeling strong enough, or feel like it we can give our opinion and try to educate them, or if not them, then other people who might be reading.

I do think however that MNHQ should see all forms of discrimination and bigotry the same way. So if it is policy to delete racism, sexism etc (which as I said I personally disagree with) then they should delete anti-disabled remarks as well.

BitOfFun · 21/06/2010 18:53

Well I can't show you the posts now, but they said very clearly that they completely disagreed with the OP on the issue, but that they were nonetheless a friend who they did not want to see called a cunt by mumsnetters repeatedly. As the guy had Aspergers and little empathy, despite being nice in many ways. So calling for the anonymous MNer's head on a plate seems a bit of an over-reaction to me.

2shoes · 21/06/2010 18:45

no they supported the op and said how generous they were(and other stuff)
I think the op and the name changer were the same person on a shit stir

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 21/06/2010 18:40

This seems to be turning into a bit of a witch-hunt really. From the posts I read (and it's been deleted now), the namechanger clearly said that they disagreed with the OP and did not encourage him to post. Why they should be outed if people are determined to tar them with the same brush as the OP is beyond me really- I understand why they wanted to namechange tbh.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2010 17:47

yes, for a start when you go to threads I'm On it's yours in all the names you have

TrillianAstra · 21/06/2010 17:40

Of course they can. They can tell all sorts of things. I could have so much fun with their databases....

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2010 17:38

why is the thread still going? surely everythiung that needs to have been said will have been said in the 1st few replies?

FabIsGettingFit · 21/06/2010 17:32

On their FAQ page they say -

"Please note that while we allow nickname changes for anonymity, we don't allow changes for malicious purposes."

FabIsGettingFit · 21/06/2010 17:28

I have contacted MNHQ, 2shoes, and asked them some questions as I am sick of them leaving things like this and never taking to task posters, or telling us who they really are when they are cowardly enough to hide behind a name change.

2shoes · 21/06/2010 15:52

mn hq will not delete the thread.
seems it educates!!!

OP posts:
FabIsGettingFit · 21/06/2010 14:21

2shoes - I can only assume it is the thread about the person making moo noises in a restaurant and think that poster is just out for a fight and to cause trouble, as surely no one can really think posting that is okay. I have no doubt that MNHQ will not tell us who it is nor do a lot about it. They seem scared to do what needs to be done at times.

wheresmypaddle · 21/06/2010 13:48

Hate that some idiot has done this and made you (and I expect others) feel this way.

2shoes · 21/06/2010 12:59

i mean advoid posting about dd on mn
