Mnhq - I am pleading with you. Please can we have a sticky thread to remind everybody about rogue apostrophe's. Especially in thread title's. Please?

And that's exactly why I wouldn't do it - it would be mean and unkind.

I am quite happy to acknowledge that it annoys me and that's something I have to deal with - because I am overly anal about attention to detail when it comes to spelling and punctuation - even when I'm typing quickly on MN after a few glasses of wine.

My problem, not anyone else's.

But it doesn't stop me fantasising about how lovely it would be ....

No, don't do it.

So what if people use too many or not enough apostrophes! It doesn't make a difference.

Some people can spell, some can't, some people have good grammar, some don't.

I don't think it makes people ignorant because they have decided to add an apostrophe to a word.

I'll grant you its annoying - when used by companies(who employ people to check publications etc), but it's nothing to do with you really when it's on here.

I would so love to use this name and go round the threads correcting posters' spelling, punctuation and grammar.

But I just can't do it. So have to save it for threads like this.

Oh I am very relaxed about typos and grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. I don't consider myself a pedant at all.

But rogue apostrophes are just inexcusable. And make the poster look ignorant, frankly.

why not ban the appstrophes all together? then there would really be not trouble at all. Dont you think it is far less annoying for them to be missing then for them to be there when not supposed to be and there in wrong places?

we don't want to remind people. It will just cause bad feeling (see above).

we want someone to have a license to go into the thread titles and correct the apostrophes very quietly, without telling anyone.
