surely most houses ( aparet from palaces) are not tv studios

Reality and i did shoot lots some more gossipy chatty stuff.

it was probably a bit silly as we did discuss never googling dragon butter and bumsex, but it was a giggle.

I read Bonsoir's comment and I didn't think it particularly offensive.
I didn't agree with it particularly but I am not sure why it has been removed as I have seen far more offensive things on MN and nobody removed them...

i spent to much time rewinding to see who was who in mumsnet world. I would like to see more people outign themselves but would not dare to myself as it takes away the mystery of whos who and what they are like - not that i give a cats arse as i didnt recognise anyone from real life .

Wish I had read the other comments before viewing the video as then I too would have known what Bonsoir said.

If it is purely for our entertainment, I think it needs to add something more than what we can get by reading and participating in the discussions on the boards. So yes the makeover (if done in a studio or even outside with decent lighting) adds to any S&B discussion. But one woman ranting alone re children eating in a supermarket perhaps doesn't. I think a good idea to add to our entertainment would be to have people from both sides of an argument fighting it out in a mud wrestling pit!

Hint: boorish unsophisticated snobbery with presumed intent to make oneself feel superior.

I don't know them but I suspect MNHQ and the very nice Mners in the tv thing, and actually most half decent people, would have the intelligence, dignity, grace and class to never make such cringingly crass statements.

Haven't read through the whole thread, but can I just say that the show makes MN look "mumsy" (not in a good way) instead of witty, feisty and intelligent.

This is what distinguishes MN from other net-based Mums' sites.

I think participating in Mumsnet by posting on the talk board (or even just lurking on the talk board) is its major attraction.

I think very few people would put themselves forward to be "outed"; I get the impression most of us want to preserve some semblance of anonymity.

I saw Bonsoir's comment and didn't really understand it . I know it was unkindly meant, but didn't take it to mean any criticism of the participants, if that is of any comfort LITR.

It just seems so thin and insubstantial compared to the real Mumsnet. I think the question you need to ask is why would you watch it on TV rather just going on line. On this basis the makeovers are a good idea - but AIBU, a Mumsnet classic, doesn't work at all. From a pure nosiness point of view I'd love to see some of the Mumsnet legends in their own homes - Bonsoir and Xenia spring immediately to mind - to see if they match their on screen personas. Or what about fronting up some of the MILs from hell to see if they are as monstrous as they are made out to be? Or what about Mumsnet wedding videos (highlights of) so we can decide if they were really as tasteful as they were made out to be? But I'm guessing that most Mumsnetters, and particularly the more controversial ones, would prefer to retain their anonymity so Mumsnet TV is always going to be much blander than the real thing.

The chief interest for me was getting to see what other Mners look like. Many of the issues covered don't really interest me eg eyelash curlers (wtf?) and I agree that filming in a house did not allow us to really see the clothes in the makeover. Plus the lighting was appalling! (oh how easy it is to be a critic!) Plus, I have a sneaky feeling the Mner who cut her hair would look great no matter how she cut it as she has lovely curly hair. It should have been a straight haired woman doing that and I bet it would have looked a mess. In fact, I bet her friend was a hairdresser and went straight to work on her once the camera was turned off (not that she needed to but really, does that way of cutting your hair really work?)

But what strikes me most of all is, beyond getting to nosey around some Mner's houses and put faces to names, what is the point of this?
