Can we have to option to ignore certain posters?

All I can say is that people I have rowed with so violently that I have ended up floucing and de-regging, have later been enormously helpful and supportive. People I have had mega slanging matches with I will later find the lone voice of reason on a different thread.

Learn which topics get you going and avoid them.

If you are getting really wound up by enough individuals across a range of subjects to feel that you need this facility, it may be that this site is not right for you.

Whilst we're at it could we impose a lifetime ban on posters who use text speak (txt spk)? Surely that has more practical use to those of us who are over 25 [ageist assumption that those under 25 do understand txt spk].

You can ignore me if you like, Ronaldinhio. I'm invisible anyway. I didn't say I disliked certain posters but certain posting styles mildly irritate me. No big deal.

I use smilies too but I don't like seeing them loads of them per post. That doesn't happen on here anyway.

I've never hidden a thread, but I have no problem with the fact that you can do it.

sm, just because you can't do it, doesn't mean others can't. I have a good memory for most names, that's how.

I agree that if you had that option, you would do as Bucharest and BoF said and end up itching to know what they had said so it would all be pretty pointless.

There are some posters who I rarely agree with, but recently I found myself in complete sympathy with one of them (much to my surprise, I have to say) and nearly commented in the thread to that effect, except I realised that it would have been very wrong to do so! . If I had blocked that person I would never have known that there was a common ground with them after all.

Mostly if I see a poster with whom I generally have no agreement, I skim over it, or take a quick read as confirmation that they are still barking wrong different from me and move on.

IMO, blocking people you don't like is like living in la la land - "I don't like what you say, I'm going to pretend you don't exist so I don't have to see it and have my own thoughts challenged in a way that makes me uncomfortable".

There are few posters I know I will never agree with and I know full well that I annoy a few people.

My solution is not to reply to people I consistently disagree with and it avoids conflict. Everyone is happier.

Blocking posters would just make threads very disjointed.

And anyway, on Babycentre, it defeats its whole object, because (I believe, I've never actually blocked anyone on there) you get a hoooge white blank box, so you think,ooooh it's that narsty so and so I blocked, I wonder what she's said, and so you have to unblock her to go and look and then you get all mad at yourself.

Thing is if you blocked posters wouldn't it be really irritating trying to read threads where they were contributing?

Have to say I can only think of a couple of people who really wind me up. I just avoid them til I've calmed down a bit.
