yeah but if someone just wanted to say hello personally to someone, msn or facebook are the only options. just thinking mn could have a similar thing.

if someone on mn such a genuine mate you'd have personal email you wouldn't need a private invite only page

if the only way you interact with someone is mn a web based public forum then they are NOT a friend.they are a like minded individual you engage with

private inevitably lacks the spontaneity and frisson of an open thread.lookey folk might not likey all contributions but imagine private threads of affirmative i hear you feel your pain

Weeeeeeell. At the risk of re-opening Moldiegate...

MNHQ did tell a number of us on a thread related to our jobs that they were indeed considering some private spaces - so we could share our RL identities without revealing ourselves unwittingly to snooping colleagues.

But then the DM thing kicked off so suspect it got binned shelved.

I only care about the issue for that particular purpose. I am a bit for any other purpose.

Sorry, no, this is a PUBLIC forum.

If you have friends on here you can e-mail/CAT/messenger them and it will remain private.

The problem with having a private section is that it would make the boards "cliquey" and could make "newbies" too intimidated to post. Without newbies it would just be a chat room and gradually the wealth of experience/knowledge that is MN would disappear.

Stick to what you are good at. MNHQ are having enough trouble keeping the site up as is, do you really want to poke it more?

I'm not sure tbh . I can understand why wanting to post so the whole world can't see would be tempting, but can't see how access criteria and choice of topics could be effectively applied without it being perceived as cliquey and elitist or open to abuse by those who are already of the mind to stalk.
