The thread both sickened and saddened a lot of Mumsnetters, DP. We didn't post because why feed the vileness?

Well I actually thought on the most part it was an interesting discussion. Were some posters getting a bit Poirot on us but other than that it was fine!

Everyone has an opinion and this subject brings out the extreme in our POV so bound to be problems at some point.

I've heard far worse on buses in Glasgow and there's more chance of being heard by a relative there.

Yes dp, that's because it was at top of active convos all day and many people will have clicked on it, read parts of it, and realised that it was too vile to participate in.

Glad you pullled it - I avoided it because it doesn't need rehashing on this forum (or, tbh, anywhere until all the facts are known)

I think deleting that thread was a good call.

dp Madonna has not lost a child. Once again you make a comparison which reveals that you see the McCanns as entertainment fodder rather than human beings.

Who are these vile people and how did they find MN ? You have to wonder what sort of upbringings they had to think that that sort of behaviour is the norm.

I read most of the thread on and off as it unfolded and some of the comments were definitely verging on libelous, if not already so.

It continues to amaze me some days how mean spirited some people can be, even where there is a lost child involved. Oh well, if it makes them feel good must be okay then TBH I am just glad I dont have to live with all those negativve nasty feelings building up inside me.

Ach well we'll never know what was deleted and what was not, now will we DP?!

i didn't read all the thread tbh...joined it halfway, but from what i saw there was only one or two posts that i thought were a bit near the mark...the rest...nope, and certainly not your posts md.

Daftpunk I was referring to the comments towards the end like I said, even I was gobsmacked at the apparently well founded accusations! It was a bit much.

Although I imagine most of my posts were deleted too so heyho.

Thank goodness that it's gone- I don't shock easily but that thread had me breathing in sharply more than once. Fugly thread, fugly ideas, fugly situation- best left alone.

wrong to delete the thread. they may have been a few posts that needed deleting, but i've seen worse said on here about madonna.

it was a discussion, and quite frankly posters who are calling certain other posters "vile" and "disgusting" should be ashamed.......we are all parents on here you know!

FWIW I do agree it was right to pull that thread, there was one poster who was bang out of order it went a bit too extreme, even for me!

Also agree with Hecate that speculation is rife everywhere yes but here is not the place to broadcast (especially such vile) opinions on this case.

Since our system is "innocent until proven guilty" - and that is 'proven' by a court, not by public speculation - and the McCann family have already taken (or threatened) legal action against those who have publicly speculated or suggested or attempted to lay blame at their door, I think that it was a wise business decision for MNHQ to not leave themselves open to legal action.

People will say what they want, they will talk about it in the pub, at the school gate...that's not the same as it being in black and white on the www.
