....so that all the people who want to be rude about me, be sarcastic about autism, suggest holding down my DD and jabbing her against my wishes, call me deluded or a liar can form their own club and have meetings AND I CAN HIDE IT.

Other sections are created because they are sensitive and this is now a regular and often nasty subject.

I know I can hide thread but that is always so hard once I have seen them ( and soemtimes people want advice or experiences) but it is just getting so vile now..

Please? Pretty plaese?

Hello.

Yes, we think a separate topic for Vaccinations is a good idea.

We'll get onto it as soon as we can.

ruty · 01/05/2009 12:08

not only that but the level of disrespect and disregard for people on that thread who had autistic children and who were calmly and logically trying to explain certain things, was appalling. Not only insults but dismissals followed by grinning emoticons, it really made me heave.

slightlycrumpled · 01/05/2009 11:27

I am not terribly educated about the whole vaccine debate. However if people like pagwatch are becoming distressed at being ignored/ shouted down/ called names etc then a seperate topic would be a good idea.

It is a source of never ending confusion to me on mumsnet that people that do live with the realities of any given topic at the time, are often ignored or worse told that they are too involved to give a balanced opinion. As someone that was recently involved in a similar discussion on here it is exasperating. Why can't people accept that they are talking about things that they know because it happened to them.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 01/05/2009 07:49

Research links a good idea but would be a mammoth task.

silverfrog · 01/05/2009 07:45

a section would be really good I think (and I know stuffit has been campaigning for one for ages)

the antenatal one is working out well - I am not a regular visitor, but have dipped in and out, and it seems to be a respected place.

I was very tempted, especially towards the end of the last thread, to start up a "PLEASE CAN EVERYONE TAKE NOTE - WAKEFILD'S RESEARCH HAS NOT BEEN DISCREDITED" thread, as everytime a vax thread moves into anythig even remotely resembling decent debate (and that last one did not do so often), a new rash of people turn up, don't read the thread and say "of course, the man was a ntter, his work has been thoroughly rubbished" and everyone takes that as a good enough reason to go back to the hysteria and witch-hunting/burning again.

Maybe a thread with all the research links on would be a good idea, if a separate area is refused once again.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 01/05/2009 07:40

You were not shouted down I just pointed out that sharing personal stories can result in a feeling of over-exposure and over my years on here I have seen people left upset by over-exposure repeatedly.

can I change my mind and say there should be one please
and mn hq should not allow the people like pagwatch to be called names.

kittywise · 30/04/2009 22:44

However revolting and ignorant they were and they really, really were, it didn't bother me oddly, because I normally get so upset about things which attack me as a parent.

But I am so utterly convinced that I am right in this matter that I am not at all bothered by their ignorant opinions.

However, I think it would be a great idea to have a space where people worried about the effects of vaccinations on their children can go. I wish I had this when ds1 was younger.

ruty · 30/04/2009 22:39

no one would respect a topic about vaccination. One only has to look at the number of revolting posts on the other thread to see that.

kittywise · 30/04/2009 22:39

Yes, thanks I see that now

kittywise · 30/04/2009 22:38

pagwatch, I support you btw, I have the same issues and tbh I thought ALL he intelligent well voiced and well researched arguments on that thread were by people who, for whatever reason had chosen not to vaccinate.

Good, I've been hunting for this. How frustrating to loose the thread like that

I've been thinking about this. I don't think anything needs to be hidden, but on more than one occassion I have been contacted by MNers asking about reactions to vaccinations their children have had. Total confidence - I would never repeat- but it might be really useful if there was a safe space that people could ask questions. I have noticed over the years that many people who have seen their children suffer vaccine reactions, or who are concerned at the time are uncomfortable posting on here (I assume, why else would they CAT me?) when it could be a great resource. Probably more useful than just contacting me as there are so many people on here with knowledge. (I'm not sure where my MN emails are going at the moment btw - as I signed up again in disguise so if someone has contacted me recently apologies but I haven't seen it!). It would give a safe place perhaps for people to address concerns without worrying about coming under gunfire.

I think these special areas are fairly well respected. The termination one seems to be, and I think vaccinations would be the same.

Saint2shoes · 30/04/2009 22:18

pagwatch I think you are amazing, you stay calm when people say such crap.
mut I disagree.
I only found out about the link through meeting a mum who's child had been affected.
if it is hidden will it not lead to more ignorance? surely it would be better if mn hq deleted the offensive comments

stuffitlllama · 30/04/2009 18:53

yes faq you were triff in the middle there

stuffitlllama · 30/04/2009 18:53

Actually sorry not quite like wannabe, I mean like wannabe in that my family is not affected. I have ALWAYS been bolshy about it not always helpful.

FAQinglovely · 30/04/2009 18:51

oh good I'm glad you won't jump on me - you (and others - but it was you I remember most) educated me well

stuffitlllama · 30/04/2009 18:51

Yes.. see what you mean. It was just a second best option really. I was thinking that maybe it would be a good place to share research and ideas on treatment approaches and so on (though I'm like wannabe). Maybe a support thread AND a separate place for debates.

I hope it works out.
