Will there be a thread to discuss nominations, or will it all be secret through email?

It must be a hard task doing the judging.
It must be bloody harder than the Christmas appeal, so I dont envy you this task. A whole holiday stands to gain for one lucky winner, wow....

But, what criteria do you use to judge? If I were to put myself somebody forward, so to speak....

What I really would like to ask is:

???? why? What the fuck are you thinking?

Kerry, you obv are Mum of the year!!!! She has better things than bumsex on her mind!!

SoupDragon · 17/04/2009 12:38

Having looked at the actual competition, you submit a 150-200 word application (for you or someone else) and they judge it from that (and the quality of the cake/wine you end with it).

Not really a popularity contest.

Sorry, dont like the sound or the intent of this concept one bit. The more I think about my reasons, the more they seem to mirror my reasons against 'another matter'. I personally think it goes entirely against the mumsnet grain and the content of this site is at risk of slipping into mumsnetOK! Isnt the very point of MN that each poster is as equal as the last or next poster - whoever that may be, regardless how often they post or how much they wish to reveal about themselves, their family lives, jobs, sex, education choices, baby name shortlists or whatever. So now, will there be a hierarchy of topics as well as threads within those topics as well as post on threads within those topics? HHmm.

Perhaps most inportantly for me, is that posts and posters are likely to be scrutinised even more closely than ever and become a 'trollfest'. I have said elsewhere that i change my name from time to time for my own reasons; will I therefore be judged as LS or an obscure amalgam of my posting names? By the way, who are we to judge? And to win some kind of award for having been judged? Doesnt seem right, somehow.

SoupDragon · 17/04/2009 12:31

Yes, I kept her. Not heard a peep out of her (or her brothers) since.

serenity · 17/04/2009 12:30

My children are freaks and geeks and I'm PROUD!!!!! It's a genetic thing...

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/04/2009 12:29

I fear a poularity contest will ensue

Serenity - you now know your children are freaks and don't need the reassurance

serenity · 17/04/2009 12:25

Aw Flame, I love you tooooooooooo hugs Flame and therefore disqualifies herself from everything ever

Too right I go on here as an escape. My DCs are at school most of the time I'm on MN, they've got past that age where I need reasurrance that they're not freaks and I'm not an awful mother. I've given up got faith in my own parenting skills now, partly due to seeing that everyone else has the same worries and issues. I love MN for that.

What's this MN Mum of the year then? Is it an MNer or one of those sleb things? Is it going to be like one of those popularity threads where lots of people secretly get upset that they never, ever get a mention?!

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 12:17

But I think we can nominate you on the basis that you were thinking about a courier, to ensure that she made it in one piece, and on the basis that you actually kept her.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/04/2009 12:12

I can't, Quint. I think it must have been in "For Sale" though as the thread has gone. She would have been around 4 months old though and, IIRC, it had to be by Special Delivery to ensure she made it in one piece

twinsetandpearls · 17/04/2009 12:07

Good point MP, the trophy would need to be of a child eating frosties from the box while the mother stares at her screen.

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 12:06

Soupy, do you remember the postage costs?

OP posts:
Mamazon · 17/04/2009 12:06

well i always ensure that the children are firmly placed at the end of teh bed so i can supervise but they are watching Cbeebies and eating a sausage roll so they dont really notice whats going on.

half way through i chuck them a froot shit so that they are nice and hydrated.

see not only am i a caring mother, attentive partner but also multi tasker extrordinar

morningpaper · 17/04/2009 12:05

I don't think any MUMSNETTER would be a mum of the year

our children are all feral

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 12:05

Also, I suppose the winner has to be alive.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/04/2009 12:05

I don't think I'm in with much of a chance, given that I once took BabyDragon to the baby clinic in order to get her weighed for postage costs...

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/04/2009 12:04

Am watching this with interest and waiting for some answers!

What do you think of IwishIwasmoreorganised butI'mMumoftheyearanyway ? Maybe a bit of a mouthful?

morningpaper · 17/04/2009 12:03

People not to vote for:

  • Jacqui Smith
  • Julie Myerson
QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 12:03

Yes, so really it is a competition between those of us who have really posted a lot about our bumsex experiences, etc, to make us memorable.

on second thoughts, maybe lets make that two different threads....

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/04/2009 12:03

I'm very uncomfortable with the whole thing TBH.

Pan · 17/04/2009 12:02

Hmmm! cheers MP!!!

morningpaper · 17/04/2009 12:02
Mamazon · 17/04/2009 12:01

well you see i think i have discussed quite a lot of my shite on Mn. but somehow i think it would be different if it was published in some dodgy hairdressers coffee table type mag.

I mean im not sure i want the entire geriatric population to know that i got beat up but have tried bum sex.
