twinset - for me it was that whole "what if" thing. Those threads were important to me (my version of hospital name bands) and I didn't want to risk some cyberspace glitch stealing them

Just thinking about this whilst having a fag in the garage (Pan, sign me up for your competition)....even if I won this prize, I'd give it back. Or flog it on ebay and donate the money some where useful.

OK, so not a popularity contest, but judgement being made about what a person reveals about themself or about someone else. How will it be decided if it's true, made up, partly true, etc etc? We have already seen suspect posts/posters in the past. Red rag to a piss-taker. All in the name of MNMOTY? For what its worth, I have never considered myself to be a better or lesser mum than any other poster. Similarly I dont think that other MNetters are better Mums than me. We all deal with whatever circumstances that we are faced with and that may mean we do a better job at some time than at others. Ulitmately I think that we can only judge OURSELVES for ourselves and each one of us for being MumOfTheYear every year to our own children and in our own unique circumstances.

I have 2 saved thread - my birth announcement and my labour ones. So all about me iyswim

TSAP, I have saved a couple of threads. They were the first meaningful encounters I had with a poster who is now my best friend. So a sort of momento really.

I can't imagine saving threads to throw back in people's faces (or on which to conduct private conversations through technical loopholes - wasn't that how Narniagate occurred?)

I think this is a terrible idea, for all the reasons already stated. I happen to know who should win because of all she has been through, but unfortunately she has just deregistered from MN.

There could not be a candidate more worthy, but then of course I would think that, wouldn't I, because I know her situation. There must be hundreds of other Mners out there who also know of other worthy candidates who think their person is also the most worthy.

I am not going to put my candidate's case (because it is too personal for me to expose here and also because she has deregged so presumably she doesn't count anymore ) and I have no idea how anyone can be legitimately chosen.

All in all, I am not impressed.

I can think of at least a dozen posters who would benefit enormously from that holiday break - all of them equally deserving.

Also, some brilliant mums/dads could actually afford that holiday for themselves but then there are some equally brilliant mums/dads who couldn't - so does that make them more deserving?

and another thing. there are those (sad) mumsnetters who do remember the posts you made in 2003, can recite your life history and research (fgs) on posters, perhaps knowing the most intimate detail about them, reading their blogs, or their prublished articles and putting all the facts together in a weirdy litle file.

there are mumsnetters who save whole threads on their home computer - regularly.

these nutjobs exist. and on MN there are more of them than i have ever met before - those who could say "but you didn't say that in in this thread" (dated 2001)

with that in mind then, can you imagine some poor sod who got nominated and won, but who posted something a bit icky, or off, or personal?

this has got to be linked to a publicity campaign and you will get people comming on = or people whoare already here knowing that the queen of mumsnet thinks bumsex is fine, didn't breastfeed and thinks BLW is a pile of wank, they do howver crochet their own toilet paper and milk cows in their back garden whilst growing ganja in their attic. they will know that you slept with between 200/300 men ( you can't remember their names) and that you are famous locally for your shortbred recipe.
