Mumsnet - please can you sort out all the Jade posts?

Its horrible. Regardless of what she did/didn't do, she was a mother. We are all mums and God forbid we will ever have to go through something like this, knowing we will leave our kids behind and not see them grow up.

Threads like this are not in the spirit of Mumsnet and yes, I can hide them if I want, but to be honest, would like to see them deleted. I know policy is to let the debates run with minimum intervention, but tonight its going too far

Thanks,

Puss

surely once people have posted their sadness the threads will fall down

QuintessentialShadow · 22/03/2009 22:57
QuintessentialShadow · 22/03/2009 22:56

But those who dont want to see all these threads will know which one to HIDE and wont feel incensed to butt in and irritate the heck out of all the others on the thread.

2shoes · 22/03/2009 22:55

sorry puss, I am in thick mode today.

beanieb · 22/03/2009 22:55

I guess so. Even when mumsnet make one thread, people still start new ones.

maybe we should all just ignore opinions which annoy us

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/03/2009 22:54

Arghh! Now this has turned into a thread which I didn't intend at all!

OP posts:
2shoes · 22/03/2009 22:53

(sorry) but even if you have one thread surely that would still happen, as everyone who wanted to, would have to post on one thread.

beanieb · 22/03/2009 22:52

2shoes. I think the issue is that if anyone ever tries to express sorrow or sympathy towards someone famous who has died or is very ill, there seem to be a lot of people who feel no sympathy at all but instead of just not contributing to the threads they think it's important that they jump in and post about how everyone who is sympathetic is a bit silly for feeling that way. Plus there are people who don't just stop at telling people they are stupid but also feel the need to be quite mean about whoever the celebrity is.

Like I said earlier there's a difference between

(a) not feeling particularly sad or sympathetic about someone's death or illness

and

(b) the need to tell everyone that you're not feeling particularly sympathetic about someone's death or illness.

Earlier there was a thread (still is maybe) which someone started to say 'Jade Goody died' and then posted about how sad it was that this had finally happened, that someone would die so young and so suddenly - expressing sympathy for her children and family for losing someone they loved.

A few other people responded in a similar way.

The issues in the thread only began when someone once again came in with the 'who cares, you're all really mawkish, Jade was crap' comments which really there is just no need for. Don't you think?

2shoes · 22/03/2009 22:52

the thread I am talking about is as you can see not about JG but would be deemed so

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/03/2009 22:48

Why would we have or want to have any other discussion?? She's a human being fgs, she's barely cold. Whatever happened, happened -why rehash it on here??

QuintessentialShadow · 22/03/2009 22:47

I dont know. But there has been a lot of malice, and maybe it is time to move on. The

2shoes · 22/03/2009 22:46

QuintessentialShadow I aggree with that, but the trouble with having one thread is that it doesn't allow any other discusion.
I suppose I was thinking maily about the thread in other discussing greif. would that be pulled?

QuintessentialShadow · 22/03/2009 22:46

I just think it has been enough malice. What more can possibly be said. Let people have an outlet without people (like me) butting in slating the woman.

twinsetandpearls · 22/03/2009 22:44

I dont think there is anything wrong in talking, discussing sad stuff. But people are being rude and childish about someone who has just died. I believe in free speach so if people want to do that go ahead but not all over the place.

so are we going to banned from saying anything apart from sad stuff now?

Dont know what you mean 2shoes. But obviously this has affected some people, and they need to chat about it. Let them have ONE thread to do it, without lots of people ridiculing them or slating the person in question. Those who disagree with this public outpooring can just hide it.

But you cant hide several threads popping up here and there, with cryptic titles, and you dont know what the thread is until you have clicked.

QuintessentialShadow · 22/03/2009 22:42

There has been so many threads about threads, and cryptic threads, and deleted threads.

ONE thread for discussing this, not for slating that poor woman, and those who disagree with the whole debacle can just stay away.

Amapoleon · 22/03/2009 22:42

One thread is best I think.

SlightlyMadScotland · 22/03/2009 22:42

Actually for a while I was praying that tech would break MN for a few hours to calm things down. Now that is desperate.

It wasn't just the threads that were obviously Jade. It was the sideline ones where OP would hint at those threads etc. It was quite bizaare and inappropriate.

2shoes · 22/03/2009 22:41

so are we going to banned from saying anything apart from sad stuff now?

MollieO · 22/03/2009 22:40

One thread - the one about a birthday - has already gone but that was a new one today. The person resurrecting the old threads has previously posted on a number of 'normal' threads with normal sounding comments so not typical troll behaviour imo.

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/03/2009 22:40

Thanks Mumsnet - I don't have a problem with a grieving thread and I'm sure others feel the same. After all, we do live in a cult of celebrity watching.

However, all the slagging off and dragging up the BB brother threads is just not Mumsnet or the spirit of Mumsnet

OP posts:
beanieb · 22/03/2009 22:40

"I think the general consensus is that it is moldie stirring unfortunately." ooooh - really!?

I agree with the OP. And QuintessentialShadow is so right about ignoring the thread that's the best suggestion ever!

CatherineMumsnet · 22/03/2009 22:38

Hi all. We did discuss this a few weeks back and decided against it, however it has all got a bit out of control tonight. We'll talk it over at MNHQ tomorrow and let you know what we decide.

twinsetandpearls · 22/03/2009 22:38

I agree quint just have one thread.

QuintessentialShadow · 22/03/2009 22:36

I have seen quite a few of these threads, participated on some.

There is nothing new. It follows the same patterns as ever with "competitive public grief" over a celebrity or other event broadly publicised in the media.

One thread, such as with baby p, such as with mccain, etc, would do.

Let the mourners let out their grief for this woman, and maybe, just maybe, the rest of us could just ignore the thread and enjoy the forum in bliss ful ignorance of it.
