I didn't realise that giving someone a virtual hug was an outpouring of girlish affection. Nor did I realise that the rest of the emoticons were sparingly and appropriately used accoring to the rules of emoticon usage.
I stand corrected and will be very careful when offering sympathy and support to people in future as mumsnet is not the place for such things.
I will also be careful to keep my opinions to myself
