Is there a "hide/block poster" option?

Maybe I'm being a bit dim, but I can't see it. pl. could you point me in the direction if it exists?

If not, wouldn't this be a good idea? Lots of other forums have this function - it's no biggie, it is not as if the other poster knows that you have hidden them.

Have MNHQ looked into this and already dismissed it?

It's a really common function on message boards - surprised to see that it seems so contentious here.

I shall away with my fucking stupid ideas...

themoon66 · 15/02/2009 13:51

I cannot remembers posters' names at the best of times, so I never remember who's been nice or who's been nasty. I just take each post as it comes and not considering that person's previous posting history.

God I'm rambling.....

BennyAndSwoon · 15/02/2009 13:48

That's better

MN is all wise and reasonable again

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 15/02/2009 13:47

I would not like this. I like to see the twats posts so I can feel better smug about myself.

Particularly the racist scumbags - loove it when they post so I can swear loudly at the computer - very cathartic.

fryalot · 15/02/2009 13:46

dil: it doesn't make you sound pathetic at all. It can be very distressing when someone is following you around being mean.

I've had something a bit similar and it's absolutely horrible!

deepinlaundry - if someone is following you around the board posting nasty things about you, this is cyber bullying and should be reported so that MNHQ can put a stop to it.

Please don't let her stop you from posting on here.

fattiemumma · 15/02/2009 13:39

if the function existed i would have used it on two posters.

but then i would have missed out on some fantastic rucks.

i see a thread but can't be arsed to post, i then notice they have posted some drivel that just irritates me so i post away.

its all their fault

Lulumama · 15/02/2009 13:37

deepinlaundry.. did you report the personal attacks to MN HQ?

dragonbutter · 15/02/2009 13:37

I have an internal block poster option.
I freely ignore posts of some mumsnetters.

that is a terrible idea..
I realise some people may wind you up...but sure if you were able to block people that simply disagree with you, well, you would sort of just expose yourself to likeminded people and then would never have the need to question your own beliefs...and that would be a dumb idea, I think...

I used to be on another forum where this feature existed. Not only that, but you were able to know who was ignoring you.

One particular poster, who basically personally attacked everyone who didn't agree with his views had about 300 posters on his ignore list. But he used to look at the threads without logging into the site, and then log in and pretend he didn't know what was being said.

So we (perhaps a tad childishly) used to start threads with totally innocent titles, and would discuss him on them, and then play innocent when he claimed to be victimized, saying that he had everyone on ignore anyway so what we were saying couldn't possibly affect him. .

It's a seriously bad idea because huge parts of threads would be missed by those ignoring certain posters, and if you then tried to comment on a thread where lots of people on your ignore list were posting the thread does become very disjointed.
