A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Thanks for the bookmarks [smiles]

RustyBear · 13/02/2009 21:47

We now have bookmarks on 'Threads I'm On' on New!

It's now all just right, thanks Tech!

StickyThread · 13/02/2009 16:10

The SN opt-in/opt-out has returned, and I have re-opted-in. But SN is STILL not appearing in my active convos (I'm on Classic). Will it be fixed?

nooka · 13/02/2009 06:21

I seem to have excessive "purpling" now! I'm using Classic, and today (and last night too) lots of links (including those I don't use) have gone purple, oh and for some reason nappyaddict too. It's a little odd!

TeenyTinyToria · 12/02/2009 20:15

I quite like the profile links going purple actually.

What new MN? I am already completely used to it. Great job.

Pat on your collective backs.

Apart from the bookmark function I wanted for really long threads, like this one - I think I may be post 964.

MNers - sweepstake as to who gets 1000!!

TeenyTinyToria · 12/02/2009 00:17

Hi - I have a small problem -

I'm using MN Classic and have set Active Convos to 100 topics, but it's only showing about 20 and I can't get it to change. Have refreshed many times. Any suggestions? Thanks!

hewlettsdaughter · 11/02/2009 22:00

No purple for me - I still can't see which threads I've looked at

Well done for sorting the Search at the top though...

Commission? No.

But Justine and Carrie have made me a very nice sticker chart.

Nearly reached two chocolate buttons

Stretch · 11/02/2009 21:32

Lol @ HelenMumsnet plugging the new MN!!!

Do you get commission for every poster that converts?? Or are you going to take away classics if most people use new?!!

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:56

Switch to MN New, Threadie. Go on, it's luverly - and no underlinings at all!

ThreadieMair · 11/02/2009 20:54

Sorry I was rude. Getting a bit fed up with it.

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:53

Stretch: glad that's a solution for now. And, trust me, MN New grows on you

ThreadieMair: Not sure if the underlining is deliberate or not, tbh. Will ask in the morning.

Special Needs won't be back in Active Convos in a general everyone-can-see-it kind of way BUT the option to include it in Active Convos if you want to will be fixed soon.

Glad you like the Home Page

ThreadieMair · 11/02/2009 20:46

Links just used to become underlined when you hovered over them. Now they are permanently underlined. That is a mistake, surely?

And when will special needs be back in active convos?

The new Home Page is nice, and the menu at the top of page, and the short cuts at bottom.

But all the cosmetic alterations within the main body of the talk pages have been a nightmare -- change for the sake of it with a million glitches on the way.

Stretch · 11/02/2009 20:42

Yep, it is a lot easier on the eye. I don't really like the new MN personally, much prefer the classic, but until I stop feeling odd, this will have to do!!

(Either that or I'll have to stop using it!)

Stretch · 11/02/2009 20:39

Ok, will try. Cheers!

ThreadieMair · 11/02/2009 20:39

Is all this underlining of everything deliberate?

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:38

Hmm, I see what you mean.

Have you tried Mumsnet New? IMHO, it's a lot easier on the eye - and the type in Active Convos is a bit bigger too, which might also help.

No need to apologise btw - we're getting used to the moaning you weren't moaning.

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:34

Hang on, I'm just going to have a little look myself...

Stretch · 11/02/2009 20:29

I am on Sober, but the names and thread titles are still that bright blue. Sorry for moaning.

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:26

Stretch: you could always give Mumsnet Muted or Mumsnet Sober Workplace a whirl.

Find them in Customise under Colour Schemes.

FlyMeToDunoon · 11/02/2009 20:14

Oh good its you and not me pressing something on the computer. i love it. thanks

Stretch · 11/02/2009 20:09

Not meaning to be funny, but the bright blue is really killing my eyes and making me queasy. I have bad morning sickness and the blue is making me worse. What can I do to change it?
