but I would be grateful if you could tell me that you have at least given serious consideration to banning the posters who were harrassing her.

Thank you.

I think there is much disquiet about this as MNHQ have failed to be seen to categorically condemn what has been perceieved as targeted, repeated, vicious attacks on a poster, by muddying the waters by introducing a nebulous debate about expertise and roles into thier response.

The unfortunate implication of MNHQ's response is that the Rev has somwhow behaved improperely, and given people a reason to question her in such an abusive manner.

I believe the onus should have been on MNHQ to put time and space between these malaicious attacks, and any discussion, or direction, on expert roles on MN, and how, or whether, Revs name or role is a concern in this respect (a contentious debate in itself).

They should have ensured that no link could be made between the vindicative questioning of Rev and the suggestion that her role and status is questionable.

To further suggest that the onus is on rev to keep quiet about the suggested name change, and it's implications about her in conjunction with the recent attacks, is further unfair criticism of the Rev.

MNHQ should not have made this link at this time. To the Rev, not just general MN.

The keeping it quiet from MN at large is irrelevant. the Revs pereception of MN's response and the implications to her are paramount.

But of course as we all do now know, MN perception is also relevant.

Shabby I would call it.

Blimey! 41 pages!

Can't believe I've been totally oblivious to this whole moldie/newbie paranoia.

MNHQ you have allowed a viper in your/our nest.

I always thought the namechanging thing was utter cowardice. I have to say this moldie thing just take it to new lenghts.

EachPeachPearMum · 21/01/2009 11:21

so embarrassed now- I have read Earthsea trilogy at least twice... gah!

georgimama · 21/01/2009 10:54

I totally agree that it looks as if the bullying victim is being told not to annoy the bullies.

I think the shame is that whatever happens now and whatever Justine says, the damage has been done and perhaps that was some posters' intentions (I am entirely specualting here) - if they thought she was a troll they wanted her gone, but maybe also they didn't like the Rev's style of posting, the fact that she had become prominent on MN, the popularity of the Reluctant Worshippers threads etc etc and wanted her taken down a peg or two.

I don't know if that is true but it's what it looks like.

In any case that is what has happened. The Rev has changed her name, she feels unable to introduce the next Reluctant Worshipper thread and has asked someone else to do it, and I'm sure will feel more guarded about her posting in future. Which is a shame.

I will reiterate as I started this whole thread (although I have no doubt that if I hadn't, it would have been started by someone) I don't necessarily think anyone deserves to be banned just for the posts on the Gaza thread, although if any poster on MN is linked to RL harrassment of any other poster, they should be.

wow..i'm impressed!

OrmIrian · 21/01/2009 10:51

Yes she is. In fact she's a shapechange dragon/woman from Earthsea.

EachPeachPearMum · 21/01/2009 10:49

Oh! Orm Irian is a dragon? I always wondered what it was

I thought it was an anagram or something....erk

OrmIrian · 21/01/2009 10:48

Can I just clarify one thing. I am not officially a dragon. I have not been sanctioned by dragon HQ. In spite of my posting name.

So please be aware and take this into account when listening to my opinions on setting fire to towns, hoarding gold and eating ponies.

Thankyou.

Orm Irian

popedaftpunkII · 21/01/2009 10:46

yes you're prob right VT..but this is another moldie V mumsnet in disguise and i think we're all getting bored stiff with it.

the moldies exist..some of them still post on here..nothing anyone can do about that...we just have to get on with it.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 21/01/2009 10:44

MD - that's your reading of it. I read it differently.

Tortington · 21/01/2009 10:43

....and considering that deception orangina and tortoise, i think it speaks volumes of mumsnetters that they continue to put trust into the posters on a website.

becuase be have to trust even at the most basic level.

It isn't a coincidence that the pitchforks for rev which were out on the Moldy debacle were sharpened again especially for her.

I think the whole point is to make mumsnet such an untennable place as to make people seek solace and advice and laughter elsewhere.

i think MN needs to be v. careful, i am sure they are aware of that

MauriceDancer · 21/01/2009 10:43

it would be a fab lesson, that's right, if the person then sincerely apologised, rather than referred to their snarky previous one... s'all i'm sayin'.

VinegarTits · 21/01/2009 10:40

Oh well ho hum, i was just giving my 2 bobs worth, not that it matters much to anyone

(still think my conspiricy theory is right though)

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 21/01/2009 10:39

orangina you are quite right. there was no child.

orangina · 21/01/2009 10:37

I remember the judge flounce business, and althought she/he didn't talk about having family in the holocaust, he/she did talk at length about losing a child to meningitis. I think that when people started questioning whether or not JF was who she said she was, there was a lot of shouting about how unfair it was to question something as serious as that. I don't know whether it was ever established whether or not the person posing as JF lost a child (or indeed ever had one), but there has been a history of quite serious deception here on MN...

(not a disclaimer or anything, just a comment....)

Tortington · 21/01/2009 10:36

ive chatted with lots of them loads over the years and would never have attributed some of the attitudes and actions to most of the people involved. the whole thing is utterly bizarre and distasteful, the fact that we now have coined the phrase 'moldy raid' speaks volumes IMO.

I have always had the utmost respect for Enid, and we have disagreed on occasion - only once seriously - and it wasn't that serious, i can't remember what the subject was.

Never had much respect for PPH - sorry love am sure the feelings mutual.

but the fuck you ness of the attitudes of some posters is telling, esp. when they weren't like that before.

I also think that the true MN Oldies ( you know who you are) are probably mortified at this classless display over the last few weeks and i am glad that they at least have kept their dignity, even if their choice in joining said group IMO is questionable.

you are making yourselves look foolish.

I think we should leave Enid alone now

it just turns into a tit for tat witch hunt.

i have been on the recieving end many a time and its not nice.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 21/01/2009 10:34

Tbh, I think it is.

And you use kids as an example - if my kids said 'I'm not going to do something' then did it, then said 'I thought about it and decided I was wrong and decided to do it' then that's a fab lesson.

And since we're discussing a rev, there's even a parable in the NT about the brothers - father asks them to help in the fields - one says 'Yes' but doesn't. The other says 'No' but then later changes their mind and does it. And he is the one commended.

It's hard knowing what's genuine and what isn't on the internet. Hence this whole debacle in the first place. Many people believed the Rev was genuine. Some didn't. Many people don't believe enid's apology was genuine. I do.

popedaftpunkII · 21/01/2009 10:33

shall we just say amen to all this now..... (goes around in circles and gets nowhere afer a while)...come on...plenty of other stuff going on on mumsnet.

VinegarTits · 21/01/2009 10:31

Yes but this was her apology:

By MrEniddo on Tue 20-Jan-09 15:21:56
Dear Rev,

I am sorry for doubting that your family died in the Holocaust and that you are not a Rev. And that you are your dh.

Love,

Enid
x

Tell me honestly, do you think that is sincere? (and especially this bit 'And that you are your dh')

MauriceDancer · 21/01/2009 10:29

so
'i'm not apologising'

followed by

'i'm apologising in a sarcastic manner'

followed by

'i apologised'

you wouldn't let your kid get away with that, i take it?

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 21/01/2009 10:27

VT - no, the one following it. By MrEniddo on Tue 20-Jan-09 16:46:21
Yes, if you must know, I thought about it and thought 'hmm if she really did have family in the holocaust that must have been quite upsetting'

so I apologised

VinegarTits · 21/01/2009 10:26

What you mean this post?

By MrEniddo on Tue 20-Jan-09 15:21:56

With this post directly before it?

By MrEniddo on Tue 20-Jan-09 15:16:23
No I won't apologise as I do not have the first clue if anyone on this site is who they say they are or whether anything they say is actually the truth.

And your telling me that was sincere? Come on!

MauriceDancer · 21/01/2009 10:26

i've chatted to her loads online over the years, that's how i know it's bollocks.

she may well (and should) be ashamed, but if she wanted to apologise she'd do a better job than that.
