If you've got (or have ever had) a child aged over one and under four please take a minute to fill in our survey about toddlers

Everyone who fills in the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a stack of fab Bloomsbury books. You'll also automatically be entered into this week's comps (which include amongst other things a fab holiday to Cornwall courtesy of our new partner Baby-friendly Boltholes or an LCD widescreen TV with built in DVD, courtesy of Morrisons).

If your children are now older, and you can still remember what they were like as toddlers, you are still eligible to complete the survey. If you have more than one child you can fill the survey in more than once (and have more chance of winning )

Done it. Was missing the 'try to stop ourselves from giggling' option in response to his tantrums....and the most effective way to deal with them is usually teasing constructive criticism.

Ds: [tantrum]
Dh: Is that a tantrum?
Ds nods
Dh: Oh, in that case I think you need to bang your arms a bit more
Ds bangs arms
Dh: and now kick your feet
Ds kicks feet
Dh: not bad, not bad. Could do with a bit more kick action though. And maybe a bit more writhing too.

tho i do have one suggestion.

for the discipline questions (and this seems to be true of most surveys) can you please include us single parents? i know for a fact that x has different discpline methods (and this has caused confusion for dd) but there is no provision for this type of answer!!!

Cariboo - in that case you fill in teh survey twice...once for the girl and once for the boy (and get entered into teh competitions twice!)

I have a boy & a girl, 3 years apart, each radically different during their toddler years & therefore the techniques I used with dd did not necessarily (if ever!) correspond with those I then had to adapt to use with ds.

Yes, from what I've experienced and seen first hand, male toddlers are different to female toddlers. Shall we debate this? I'd love to!

I thought 2-3 tantrums a week was pretty good...thought i was doing ok; but no, 2-3 a week is frequently!!

Why are we limited to under the behaviour when they were under 4?

I want to answer "now" (at aged 7) for the worst behaved stage of life to date for my 7 yo....I can't remember what they were like under 4 cos it pails into insignificance compared to owhat they are like now...I can't remember what they were like to do it retrospectively!

DD is a prize sulker, Fennel, shouldn't be surprised as I was too. I had to think REALLY hard in that survey about what triggered her four or so major tantrums (aged 3, nothing at all at 2) as at the time I was far too busy thinking 'WTF is she DOING?' to make mcuh note of what had triggered it.

Oddly enough, DD's sulks are about 90% guaranteed to make ME throw a tantrum, SO frustrating!

One of mine never tantrummed really, she's 8 now. She just retreats into herself, or sulks, instead. She's not angelic and wasn't as a toddler. Just not a tantrummer.

Mine (the other two) didn't tantrum for any particular triggers, they just did it. I didn't see an option for that on the survey.
