If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies [part 2]

This thread is a continuation of this one. That one had become too big for its own boots the system to handle.

soapy that would make sense, in fact i now remember i started one of those threads. MP, that must be it, not discussing as i recall it, the actual nominees, but the fact that there were no votes being cast which didn't seem like cricket. onebat knows that too, evidently, which is why she doesn't want to name names which is decent of her. i adore her, clearly.

however, mrs onebat, i think what shocked me and to borrow iorek's phrase, made my skin itch, was the realisation that no, not everyone does feel that way. seemed to me the majority were very wearied of the yelling and stamping of feet on MN (and a fair few acknowledged that they were the yellers and stampers and didn't want to be like that) and so relished the idea of having somewhere where the decisions would be made by others. not hugely my cup of tea, or yours, but we are not all the same.

Threadworm · 02/01/2009 23:50

Do cut off your gangrenous hand onebat, otherwise you really will be a mouldy. Irreversibly.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 23:49

Ah, a benign (?) dictatorship.

welliemum · 02/01/2009 23:49

Excellent analysis aitch - it very much chimes with my own experience.

I was invited and then went and had a baby so the recruitment discussions were just noise somewhere off my radar, but I certainly had the impression that it was an evolving, rather haphazard thing with people disagreeing about the best way to go forward, and especially, trying to work out the best way to avoid hurting feelings.

Which is an important point. A closed site has to have some way of recruiting members, or it isn't closed. The only discussion one can have is to decide what is the "least worst" way of deciding membership.

You could start a splinter site and invite everyone on Mumsnet and it would be lovely, but there's no point, is there, because we already have a site like that. It's called Mumsnet.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/01/2009 23:48

that forum seems to be like the deutsche-in-london one, from the way it is described to look....

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 02/01/2009 23:48

And, before I really do fark off (Christ, it's like cutting off your own gangrenous hand) there was a general attempt to make the idea of democracy seem rather gauche. 'This isn't a democracy you know".

Ach, Aitch, I'm not sure that this Truth and Reconciliation Committee was such a good idea after all. Though an hour ago I think I would have been right behind it.

Cadelaide · 02/01/2009 23:44

Thanks ever so DaddyJ.

Big, isn't it?

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 02/01/2009 23:44

"a great affront to my sense of fair-play but to be fair it was never a question of making another MN, the majority really did want somewhere nice to chat and that was it."

But Aitch, that is why I object to it on principle. Somewhere nice to chat, which is cosy and warm, and also exclusive and undemocratic, where censorship might await any critical poster.

Sorry - realize how undergraduate and over-earnest that sounds; but actually, having experienced it, it's astonishing how important the right to speak is to one's sense of well-being.

chipmonkey · 02/01/2009 23:44

onebat, don't go!

Aitch · 02/01/2009 23:43

i'm off to read the thousands of x-posts calling me a Pure Shit.

DaddyJ · 02/01/2009 23:43

come back obm
I will religiously spread feminism amongst my male friends
if you come back
(already started of course)

ruty · 02/01/2009 23:42

ah well send them our regards Aitch.

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 23:42

Aitch - it doesn't rankle with me that you would want to stay there. I can understand why you would want to. And I think that we do have to accept the reality that Mouldies does exist and will continue to do so.

And onebat, please don't go!

anyway, as onebat says, the problem with there being only a negative vote in the form of a veto, is that if not everyone is participating in the system or if some people are voting for different reasons (like they don't recognise the name rather than that they think the person goes to the same toddlers' as they are and don't want to be identified, or if they just have a massive personality clash with them and would stop posting on the new site) then it's a bit fucked because it puts a few people in charge.

i'd noticed that there were a few names saying (not illegitimately, i should say) that they were vetoiing people who they didn't know, i thought this was unfair as it gave them a lot of sway for a trivial reason and posted about it and got flamed. i think onebat, you posted too, didn't you? and sophable posted another thread and got flamed too... it was a very defensive evening and the posts got deleted or moved. very un-MN-like so a great affront to my sense of fair-play but to be fair it was never a question of making another MN, the majority really did want somewhere nice to chat and that was it. perhaps by getting narked about the voting system it was ruining the equilibrium? dunno. but you sleep on it, don't you, and you think fuck it, a lot of those people are my friends, i'm not getting run off a board by a minority who disagree with me. so i stayed.

onebat didn't. i rather applaud her for that ethical stance, likewise swedes and mp. but i did think that things would calm down and a better system would be found, tbh. and i still do hope that will be the case because they are still the same people as they were and are posting on MN. gobby, insightful, obnoxious, utterly lovely, wanky, soft, hard, etc. no trolls, though. but a lot of them aren't posting on MN any more and i still like them so i'm going to stick with being able to catch up with them on there. i can understand if that rankles with some of you, though.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 02/01/2009 23:39

I also should have said that I absolutely don't think that Aitch is not being entirely honest - simply that our recollections differ. Aitch was a fearless and staunch supporter when I crit'd it. I feel crap about this.

VersdeSociete · 02/01/2009 23:39

No Iorek, everyone is welcome to waddle around on Club Penguin. Club EmperorPenguin, however, I wouldn't like to say...
Although actually I think if you are an adult you get thrown off. Or possibly arrested....

ruty · 02/01/2009 23:38

onebat everyone from Moldies seems very angry with you which doesn't seem very fair. You are giving your experience of the site. Why shouldn't you? I tiotally get why Moldies was created and why it is useful. But onebat's communication of the nomination system and her discomfort with it seems to have led to her being demonized by the Moldies which seems unfair. Ok i'll fuck orf now too.

DaddyJ · 02/01/2009 23:38

Cadelaide: Moldiegate

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 02/01/2009 23:37

and I blatantly can't spell guarantee.

soapbox · 02/01/2009 23:36

Aitch and MP - I think what happened, which marries up both your recollections was that when people saw the results of the purely 'yes' 'no' votes, there was incredulity about the 'nos' and a mini discussion broke out on a couple of the poll threads. I think in all honesty people were not really expecting to see 'no' votes. And there was a general feeling of horror at people being discussed in this way.

Those discussion threads were removed pretty swiftly and immediately a thread went up asking for a better way of deciding who should be invited to join.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 02/01/2009 23:36

However if I do join I can't guaruntee my avatr will be honest I intend to be a very slim gorgeous attractive lady.

Cadelaide · 02/01/2009 23:36

OK, I give in.

Would nayone like to tell me, pleeese, very succinctly, what this is all about?

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 23:33

Go for it, Ledodgy.
