This thread is a continuation of this one. That one had become too big for its own boots the system to handle.

Cleves us all?

Well it doesn't really does it. Not enough for 'us all' to be selected for the new group.

Come on...

Piffle · 02/01/2009 11:26

I am happily posting on other threads and then I click "threads I'm on" and see untruths being bandied about Moldies and this draws me back in to defend my coven (tongue in cheek for the record) if needed and just to rubberneck on the fantasies that abound as to what Moldies actually is...
The analogies run from Camilla and Charles to Mumsnet's Diana and to a Boden ghetto, then to an almighty far more vicious nest of vipers...Black Cobras even perhaps?

And for the record Aitch saved my life, she posted when I had bleeding after a positive test. And someone else when I thought I had gas when pregnant, but they said oh it could be appendicitis, get it checked, saving mine and my ds2s life.

And for the person who said FGS claim DLA for your DD.
Thanks.

And for the lovely women I met at the Xmas meet up, where I made NO distinction about Mold or anything.

And no one made one of me.

The beauty of mumsnet is its pool of knowledge, senstivity, brutality and humour. Its universality.

To think that some of the incredible and tragic and wonderful things that have happened here.
Peters heart transplant
OJ, MB and M2J and Yorkiegirl losing their husbands.
GGG and her angel girl
Bubble
Many much more that I am too tired to recall just now

And many many more
For heavens sake it's this stuff that makes us mumsnetters and cleves us all.

History innit?

daftpunk · 02/01/2009 11:25

it won't implode...it will get stronger..

what's actually happened here...a few people have left that didn't much like it here anymore...that's no loss is it...

whitenoise · 02/01/2009 11:12

Just thought i should point out that its not just "moldies" and newbies that are being affected by this, i now know of several "regs" including myself who have name changed just to avoid being associated with this. Mainly because they have been around a while and thought they were "oldies" and don't want to be tarred with the same brush.

Some ppl need MN as they have nowhere else to be, please don't make it implode, it's a life line to some people

Tiggiwinkle · 02/01/2009 10:07

No alors, it was not aimed at you. And I did not see your posts on the deleted threads as to why you felt you needed to go.

But I do feel saddened that you-and others-have felt the need to go. Mumsnet will be the poorer for it and I do not feel that the vast majority of posters should be punished for the actions of a few trolls. After all we have no control of them and are no more at fault than you are. It does feel like a kick in the teeth and that is how I feel, I am afraid.

alors · 02/01/2009 10:00

TIGGIWINKLE: "I continue to feel saddened by some of the names which have emerged as this thing has unfolded. I still cannot understand why posters, some of whom have had a huge amount of support here, have now turned their backs on the site-and on most of us."

If this is referring to me, ggglimpopo - if you had read my previous posts explaining why I felt the need to namechange/cut right back on mumsnet - then it is comments like this that make me feel entirely justified in doing so. I explained twice, on two different now deleted threads. I do not wish to go through all the details again.

I had a tragedy. I had a huge amount of support of mumsnet which helped me get through the unimaginable. And for which no words of gratitude will suffice.

But that does not mean that I wish to spend the rest of my life being associated solely with tragedy (my own personal loss and that of my family and our circle) and that event is not owned by mumsnet and nor do I wish to spend the rest of my life beholden to those who I see as being there for me, rather than having some proprietal role in my life.

I love mumsnet. But there are limits. And for me, a little known poster - or a troll, who cares - put a huge dampner on how I realised I was perceived here and changed how I felt about the forum.

Oh dear. Here we are in the New Year and it's not feeling any better is it?

I agree with Dreyfus-it is absolutely infuriating that some moldies continue to come over and post inflaammatory comments on these threads. And I am not talking about posters who contribute across the board, but the few who seem to be coming over and just posting on these threads to have a dig.

I continue to feel saddened by some of the names which have emerged as this thing has unfolded. I still cannot understand why posters, some of whom have had a huge amount of support here, have now turned their backs on the site-and on most of us.

And I cannot see any way forward at the moment.

daftpunk · 02/01/2009 09:09

mumsnet will always be the better option for most people. it has tons more people, more opinions, ok, the odd troll here and there, but we can handle them!....i can see the attraction of the moldies site (for some people)...but can also imagin it getting a bit boring after a while.

Dreyfus · 02/01/2009 08:59

I do think MN is a 'simpler and happier place' these days - so I think really the change is for the good. That doesn't stop me being saddened about the exclusivity which has made many good people feel betrayed and rejected, nor does it stop my blood momentarily boiling when a Moldie pops back to say how lovely it is over there, and how we can't tell them where to post (no. Exactly!) and they're going to damn well carry on posting where they like - it's been a bit bewildering to see so much insensitive self-justification, and seeming disregard for the feelings of hurt that were caused - feeling part of a select little group and having the power of invite-or-veto doesn't seem to have improved everyone's character or empathy, that's for sure (not every Moldie of course - just the ones bullishly maintaining that nothing in the least unkind or underhand has gone on and that the Unwanted should just Get Over It.)

Of course they can carry on posting over here, that's the whole point, and I'm sure if they just carried on joining in MN discussions in the usual way no-one would make them feel unwelcome - the dust will settle soon - it's just that the more they say about Moldies - to try and smooth things over?! the worse it sounds:

I started a couple of (very unpopular) threads on moldies predicting that mners would be hurt to be excluded and that the nomination process was, erm, difficult to say the least. I was pretty roundly flamed for them!

Monkeytrousers · 02/01/2009 08:35

I saw Goody TwoShoes with the devil!

(Anyone know The Crucible?)

Flihgtattendant · 02/01/2009 07:31

And I did find the old style arrogance brought its own humour, which I miss in a way...although MN is a simpler and happier place without it.

Ihope these posts are taken as purely a theoretical exploration. I'm only thinking too much about how it all works, am not trying to attack anyone. I have still some equanimity regarding the whole thing.

Flihgtattendant · 02/01/2009 07:29

I think my point being, MN possibly is needed in some way - an underclass is needed and contact with said underclass is also necessary or it would become irrelevant/detached from the new setup and therefore not function as an underclass.

Or am i talking bolleaux?

Flihgtattendant · 02/01/2009 07:27

i have had a little thought.

It's about what sophable said earlier about her feeling that some people didn't really want her over there.

I am thinking that possibly if some people were correct in their assertion that it is set up as a select group who consider themselves superior,

then surely that whole vibe of 'we are the top girls, everyone do as we say' (demonstrated perhaps in the sometimes arrogant interruption of other people's threads on here, in the past, in-jokes etc etc) would have difficulty in perpetuating, as everyone would be '[invite only' and therefore nobody could be perceived as being a pleb or having second class status - as perhaps some people felt they were on here, before the arrogant element departed.

Therefore the new forum will either have none of that class ethic going on, and will be all sweetness between the top gals, or else it will need to supply its own underclass somehow in order to facilitate the arrogance.

In which case it is just same old, same old, happening in a smaller petri dish. And if there is no hierarchy over there, I wonder how long it can survive as surely the arrogant superiority of some was key to the elite? And without that...nobody to toast the crumpets, as someone mentioned...how can it survive?

Of course this is simply a kind of exploration of another 'what if' experienced only through one perspective, which I am unwilling to take ownership of personally as my own feelings are still so unsettled and ambivalent.

But it makes for a good social experiment.

NotanOtter · 02/01/2009 00:48
