If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies [part 2]

This thread is a continuation of this one. That one had become too big for its own boots the system to handle.

OP posts:
WilfSell · 02/01/2009 22:49

Iorek, are you sure you really want to know? Don't you think it might be like the 'what are you really thinking?' question to a new lover? [answer: no, love, not about you] Or to an adulterous one [answer: no, love, not about you, about the other more sexy and fresh one].

Neither answer at all satisfying. Especially when what we all really want to hear is that we are the beloved. And when they do tell us we are the beloved, we don't believe them anyway.

Better not to ask IMHO . In order to move on, that it.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 22:49

Please Aitch.

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:49

wtf, smiley? i've stated this countless times, it's up to you to say whether you think i'm a liar by nature or not, i guess. i certainly think you are a stirrer, being honest.

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:48

Yes please, aitch.

SmilleysPeople · 02/01/2009 22:47

After how many threads? How many posts?

there is finally an offer of 'the truth'?

Odd.

But go on....

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:45

do you want to hear it or not, KM? i will tell the truth, that's all i can promise, i'm not commenting on anyone else.

myredcardigan · 02/01/2009 22:45

That was in answer to onebat but booze and typing are not quick bedfellows

myredcardigan · 02/01/2009 22:42

Absolutely!
My view isn't clouded by emotion at all! In fact I'm utterly bemused by the whole over emotional reaction to what seems like silly nonsense. But I can see that emotions are running high on both sides. I just think that although some people are justifiably upset, the vast majority are getting their knickers in a twist over lost cyber relationships that never existed in the first place.

I don't know if 5yrs in makes me an oldie but either way I like the freshness and new perspectives brought by new posters. I like laughing at tales I haven't heard before and being challenged by viewpoints I haven't come across. I like the open, self-regulatory aspect of MN which is why I stay. I like the fact that anybody can post (almost) anything they like and we nod/splurt/shout and piss take accordingly.

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 22:42

OK. So can we agree to allow only another 200 or so more posts before we finally, collectively, move on?

Please?

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:42

Yes, aitch I do solemnly promise to believe you. As long as your account is the most convincing.

but you know i've told people the process truthfully all along, TFM, and it hasn't ended a thing. quite the opposite.

Heathcliffscathy · 02/01/2009 22:40

i've never seen any bitchfest. as far as i know the vetoing was private. i.e. you private message one of the moderators with your objections.

no public bitchfest whatsoever that i've seen.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 22:40

God yes. The curiosity is the killer. It's why I haven't hidden this thread while telling other people to do so

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:38

but if i tell you, iorek, as someone who's been there and seen it ALL, will you promise to believe me? because all along i've told the truth and that's really not prevented a load of 'or so they say...' comments.

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:37

Oh hello, onebat. Yes you are right of course. I will try to swallow my curiosity. But it will be a mouthful of dry crackers.

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:34

I am finding it surprisingly hard to move on though. I am not at all upset on my own account, and agree with quattrocento that mumsnet will probably be a better place without all the "it's not like the old days" bleating and prefect mentality. I am however itchy all over with curiosity about the finer details of the voting/vetoing process.

Is it really true that nominees were subject not just to a simple yes or no vote, but a full bitchfest discussion of their worthiness? I keep seeing this alleged, followed by a moldy saying either "that's not true" or "that's not true any more". Which is it? And how many of us have been subject to this process without our knowledge?

I can't help feeling there are more beans to be spilled. Or have these things all been covered on deleted threads?

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 02/01/2009 22:28

IN principle. God.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 02/01/2009 22:26

I hear you mrc. But I think that to characterize this schism as one based purely on personal emotion is a mistake. Some of us aren't hurt at all - we just object on principle and haven't been convinced by the justifications which have been advanced.

However, it would be very nice if we could all let it go. MN-ers could swallow hurt/principle, Moldies could swallow being criticised/personal justification. It's the only way it's going to happen, and will be an exciting updating of the synchronized swapping of spies on bridges in E Europe c.1971. You know - one, two, three - STO-O-OP!. Even under the provocation of stirrers, or those who have just discovered the whole thing.

evaangel · 02/01/2009 21:58

happy new year to you all!

evaangel · 02/01/2009 21:57

my positive emotions are coming out in MN whilst suffering PVFS and some of the posters I find inspirational to me

I hope everyone can move on from this and enjoy the fun, laughter, knowledge and escape from rl that MN and the posters have given me

SueW · 02/01/2009 21:32

Re the secrecy - I've been involved in organising events in the past where select people have got themselves invited to tastings/previews of events/taken the freebies without letting anyone else know. Let them. I wouldn't do it to them and it hurts a little when I've first found out but I'd never let it get in the way for long. Draw a line, move on.

Anger, hate, guilt. All really negative emotions which prevent people from enjoying life. I do experience them - I'm no angel - butI know they don't do me any favours.

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 21:32

Well, 300 or so after all the other thousands doesn't seem too bad!

(just so you can't be accused of being a threadkiller!)

SueW · 02/01/2009 21:27

About 300 msgs and call it a day?

Life doesn't work like that!!

Nice suggestion though.

And I'm quite a good threadkiller so maybe this will be it

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 21:23

You are quite right, SueW - it should be like that. However, it's the secrecy and elitism about the Moldies that has been the real issue in all of this.

But never mind that. What about my suggestion?!
