omg what a crappy place.
I run the yahoo group for the sn board, and in 2 1/2 years it has been goingno one has ever been turned down.

no reason. in fact, you only got contacted if the person you nommed had been accepted. so i'd nom x, y, and z, and get a message by PM to say 'could you give z a buzz, please?'

a lot of those people who everyone's been saying 'why the fuck weren't they invited, they've been on here yonks and are lovely' seem to have been admin fuck-ups, i should perhaps (not) tell you... it was totally haphazard. it's hardly like this place, where it's someone's JOB to run a website.

Can I ask how Moldies obtain new members now? How does the recruitment process work - does it involve current MN members?

The reason I ask is that I have this slightly paranoid vision of lots of moldies with dark sunglasses taking notes of current postings on mn and deciding whether the posters merit a tap on the shoulder ...

So how does it happen now?

I never saw any big discussions of other people.
and if any had overstepped the mark re discussing anything on Mn then it would get deleted fairly quickly as I saw a few edited posts, but no slagging off.

You said onebat didn't see this system. I seem to recall someone accusing her of sour grapes because her nominations weren't accepted or some such (have I got that right?) - so what was the system for nominations prior to/following the yes/no poll?

that rule has been more or less adhered to, i think it's safe to say that recent events have put it under severe provocation but i personally have been pretty surprised at the restraint shown. some pompous bugger (occasionally me ) pops up to say 'narniagate'? and then people start apologising and deleting. you can edit on there.

so anyway, a new system was decided on, whereby everyone would add x and y poster to a list, not unlike the christmas meet up lists here, and if you saw someone you had a major objection to you could PM (CAT) one of the mods and they would note it. i never quite got an answer as to how many no votes would make someone not get invited but it wasn't enough to be one. i nommed some people and they mostly didn't get through, which was annoying because i knew they were good eggs (some may even be on this thread... ) and became a bit disenchanted.

Yes, that's true. But it didn't always work in practice. The predictable people did discuss MN, then edited their posts to remove those references (you can edit your own posts om Moldies).

For example, there was some discussion of the MN London Xmas meetup.
