If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies, please do it here so folks can hide this if they want to.

Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread where anyone who feels they still have anything to add on this subject can post and those who'd rather move on can hide it away.

It feels strange to put this thread in site stuff as we are definitely not wanting to encourage further discussion of Moldies (we have presents to wrap too you know ) but we weren't sure where else to put it.

We will delete any new Moldies threads that are started, so please feel free to report them in case we miss any (what with wrapping the presents and all...)

And if you do want to carry on the discussion please remember that Mumsnet's here to make everyone's lives easier and not the reverse, and that Christmas is a time of goodwill to all mumsnetters past, present and future

Thanks,
MNHQ

fuck stockholm is in Tokyo, isn't it? shit.

Hang on.

Those journalists have written a crap article full of mistakes, but they haven't betrayed any confidences or published anyone's personal details in a newspaper. They've done nothing wrong except perpetrate a crime against good writing.

Every single word you write on MN is available to anyone in the world with an internet connection. What's more, unless you post only in Chat, it's going to be available to anyone in the world etc etc for as many years as MN continues to survive.

Anyone who thinks this is like chatting in a pub is seriously deluded.

I'm in a different time zone and I can tell you that while you're having a slightly tired and emotional late-night session with your best mates, I'm sitting here in NZ eating my lunch and reading every word.

I've read some amazing stuff on MN, much of it easily identifying the posters IRL if anyone was interested enough. It just happens that I am not a daily mail journalist have some scruples and have no wish to cause damage in anyone's life.

Anyone who is cross about stuff being copied from here to the national press needs to have a serious rethink about how they believe mumsnet works.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 28/12/2008 23:37

lol Swedes. Gosh I love you, you big ball of root-vegetable fun.

Quattrocento · 28/12/2008 23:36

Thanks Swedes I'll do that thing with the name-change.

Freckle · 28/12/2008 23:33

Swedes, my post has bugger all to do with Moldies and everything to do with perspective and common sense. Please.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 28/12/2008 23:33

just caught up a bit.
roffle at MP's starfleet friend! Cod God you lead a glamorous life!

hunkermunker · 28/12/2008 23:32

Saying that, though, I never posted RL stuff about anyone other than funny stuff about DH, or the boys - never about my parents, siblings, friends, etc.

So meh, ignore me.

TWINSETofbigfatcocks · 28/12/2008 23:31

Lou it takes one to know one.

Freckle no I don't think I would , but what if I had been posting merrily away before I realised that my ex husband was a psychotic twat who was trying to dish the dirt out of malice. Or thinking about that period of my life it was a dark and very lonely time and maybe rather naively I would have offloaded on here.

I am just trying to explain why some people feel paranoid especially in light of the fact that some posters have left or namechanged after real life and mumsnet have collided with disastrous effects.

BigGitLovesMulledWineDad · 28/12/2008 23:29

Lou, I wasn't even good enough to be a reject!!
Is this thread still going on, I will have to scroll down and catch up now!

Bumperlicious · 28/12/2008 23:29

Well someone might think "Oh she sounds interesting/stupid/whatever, lets search and see what else she has to say" then looks at the big picture of my mumsnet life. Something someone could do anyway but only if they happened to be on MN and happened to see my name and decide they might want to see what else I've been saying.

Perspective is fine, but this shit has gone on for too long, all of it, and this is the crux of it and I am angry. And here is the only place I can vent as I can't tell my friends and family as I don't want them knowing my user name and telling DH just vindicates his scathing view of mumsnet and I get that "I told you so" look.

fishie · 28/12/2008 23:29

wonk do you really think about people in terms of eq?

and i can see either side. here on mn we do put ourselves in public just by posting. some with a persona and some quite openly, pics and all. i wouldn't like to be half outed but i don't think anyone gives a shit who i am anyway (i mean in rl, they are relieved not to see my witterings)

Quadrophenia · 28/12/2008 23:29

white but if I shuffle around enough i might be able to finmd some red that was once used for a stew

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 28/12/2008 23:29

well said bumper
I was a bit facetious to KM about my post being attributed to her, but I absolutely do understand that it's really horrible, all this misattribution.

There have been a few posts along the lines of 'don't be silly, didn't you know everyone could see'. Well, yeah. But having said that, I felt fucking weird seeing my words int eh Sindie - even though they were attributed to KM.

But in general, that's not what people have been upset about.

ruty · 28/12/2008 23:28

freckle people are upset about being misquoted, not about being quoted.

SwedesInADirtyMacAndSunglasses · 28/12/2008 23:28

Freckle's post is a party political broadcast by the Moldy Party.

I'm not sure people should go into their houses if there are other people in the street. As those people will then know where they live.

lou33 · 28/12/2008 23:28

quad, is it red or white wine?

lou33 · 28/12/2008 23:27

a reject out and proud

as for changing my name, i'm too lazy

hunkermunker · 28/12/2008 23:26

Bumper, I've had incorrect stuff attributed to me in print as Hunker before. I wasn't quite as incandescent as you are though - I was a bit "oh, ffs" - especially as I can be relatively easily linked to my RL self through my blog

Why are you quite so angry?

Freckle · 28/12/2008 23:26

Twinset, in those circumstances, you wouldn't disclose anything on here that you didn't want them to know, though, would you?

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 28/12/2008 23:26

Freckle - unless you were on of the ones that was mis-quoted.

Or unless you've had direct experience of a "stalker" via MN

can I suggest (politely) that you don't quite know what it's like and that infact some of the paranoia can be quite real.

SwedesInADirtyMacAndSunglasses · 28/12/2008 23:24

Quattro - perhaps namechange from time to time from QuattroC to Quattrocent to Quatt etc. It is then quite difficult for anyone to build up a proper jigsaw as they only ever have scant information and not possible for them to get your whole mumsnet life history in one search. Please don't stop posting I would miss you.

Freckle · 28/12/2008 23:24

Bumper, I understand that you are upset. How do you think that approximately 5 people that you don't know reading that you said something unpleasant (that you didn't actually say) is going to affect you? All I'm suggesting is a bit of perspective.

TWINSETofbigfatcocks · 28/12/2008 23:23

Yes freckle I suppose so.

TBH though when I was getting divorced I could imagine my ex or his family trawling on here to get info about my supposed failings, ( they had me followed so this would be the logical next step) so for some people maybe it is justified paranoia.
