If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies, please do it here so folks can hide this if they want to.

Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread where anyone who feels they still have anything to add on this subject can post and those who'd rather move on can hide it away.

It feels strange to put this thread in site stuff as we are definitely not wanting to encourage further discussion of Moldies (we have presents to wrap too you know ) but we weren't sure where else to put it.

We will delete any new Moldies threads that are started, so please feel free to report them in case we miss any (what with wrapping the presents and all...)

And if you do want to carry on the discussion please remember that Mumsnet's here to make everyone's lives easier and not the reverse, and that Christmas is a time of goodwill to all mumsnetters past, present and future

Thanks,
MNHQ

aitch i see what you are saying, but i don't think that two wrongs ake a right. I take on board your argument, that you can post where you want. I would also like to add, that you seem to be lone sane(if moldy) voice.

it is an emotive subject and BBBEE i would be happy to reply to any posts you have - becuase youare right, this is the place to do it.

Those who are fed up of the discussion can hide it and leave those who want to post questions.

i have seen lots and lots of posts over the few days with "what is a moldy" "what are you all talking about?" type questions, being ignored.

I have ignored some of them too for fear of interrupting cocktails and airing cupboards and being accused of re-igniting something.

However i do think that this is ONE thread where those that want to talk about it can.

It also allows the moldies to comment on posts - in one thread. Allowing us to clearly see two sides.

The by-product of other threads being started is that they get deleted, and this is unfortunate as then any amount of mudslinging can ensue, and its v. hard to defend against someone who said for instance - that you called them names or were unpleasant - if you weren't

SO, if it is kept in one place, a place where we can talk about it without feeling like people are bored - as bored you maybe, but you can hide the thread.

so BBBE, what did you want to post about?

NorthernLurker · 29/12/2008 13:55

mumofbaby - I don't think naming names is helpful anymore actually.

Aitch · 29/12/2008 13:54

aye, onebat, it was most odd. haven't seen you as that type of poster, but i do think that a lot of people (and tbh from my reading of it, mostly aggrieved MNers) have lost perspective. i know that things went on yesterday, but in terms of the sustainedness (if that's even a word) then there have been literally thousands against moldies.

(to whoever asked, by the way, MNHQ have no problem with Moldies, can completely understand why it was set up and graciously refused an invitation to join.)

so, anyway, what is it that you actually want to happen at this stage?

that moldies will shut?
cos that isn't going to happen, i don't think. half of the moldies seem to have de-regged in sadness.

that it will open its doors?
do you really think that's likely now?

so i don't understand what is being gained by keeping this embarrassing fishwifery going.

hunkermunker · 29/12/2008 13:52

What perspective do you want to gain, MoB?

Quattrocento · 29/12/2008 13:50

Aitch, you are getting too worked up. No-one has asked any Mouldies to go home. There have been one or two posts where a Mouldie has been quite aggressive (witness below) and been told to go back to Mouldies. Comments like that have only ever been retaliatory.

I think MN (both MN Towers and MNers in general) have been great and kind and forgiving really for NOT telling the Moldies to get lost. I think that's the spirit of MN.

I'd personally like it if you carried on posting on MN and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

MumofBaby · 29/12/2008 13:50

I need to know who the Moldies are so that I can gain some perspective. So far there's Aitch. Is Scottishmummy one? Expat? I hope there's no one from my old antenatal thread.

daftpunk · 29/12/2008 13:47

aitch....everyones sanity was fine untill this all came out......you might like to have a word with some of your mates on the moldies site and ask them to stop coming on here and being tits of the highest order....then things might calm down.

LucyJones · 29/12/2008 13:47

I wish the Moldies would answer these questions, I feel under qualified

pooka · 29/12/2008 13:47

But they only have themselves to blame - having hidden the thread it's like they uninvited themselves from the party.

I feel no guilt.

LucyJones · 29/12/2008 13:45

who invented moldies?

several mumsnetters I think

Aitch · 29/12/2008 13:45

yes, in the sense that i hadn't posted on there that much prior to all this and had been whole-heartedly flamed for challenging the closed element etc, then yes i am a moldie. i've never stopped posting on MN and wasn't aware until reading all this 'moldie go home' shit that the two were mutually exclusive.

i have a problem with the exclusive element of it, but i was hopeful of changing that. and now tbh i'll be damned if i'm going to let a bunch of internet sprites tell me where i'm going to post on the world wide web. unless those same internet sprites give me access to their blogs, their emails, their facebooks and any conversations with MNers. the whole thing is now hypocritical in the extreme, i'm betting most of the big-hitters on these threads have been slagging Moldie posters off in private, and worse than they have been doing in public. which if you'd seen what they posted about Twiglett last night must take some doing.

hunkermunker · 29/12/2008 13:45

Pooka, it would be criminal. Imagine the uproar if other MNers discover that the answer to life, the universe and all things cocktail-airing-cupboard has been found on a thread they've hidden?

It may well make the national press.

As I said, it's a drawback of being able to hide threads. It's one of the good points about MN that we are free to discuss almost anything we want, on most threads.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 29/12/2008 13:44

Aitch, most of the nastiness and get back to moldies stuff has beenn in response to a sustained attack from Moldies - did you not see PPH and others last night? There is a general feeling that they are coming on to shit-stir and then farking off back for a tactical conflab.

However, I am extremely regretful that I was involved in the rudeness last night. It was one of those moments of communal hysteria that sometimes occur after the unsayable has been said. But sorry, really.

pooka · 29/12/2008 13:43

Good point HM - would hate for any mumsnetters not to benefit from the erudite and interesting cocktail/airing cupboard discussion.

BBBee · 29/12/2008 13:42

god - why is this jusdt on one thread? it is so unwieldly and there are loads of issues around this people want to discuss.

i want to talk about the media coverage but it gets lost in this huge thread.

it is different from baby p and MM - it is not an issue that just some people want to discuss - it is about the whole site.

hunkermunker · 29/12/2008 13:42

Quattro, I haven't said anything on the whole subject that's been inflammatory or unpleasant (on here at least - on the phone to my mum the other night, I may have been less,a s CITH1 puts it, "vanilla" ).

But I've had various people be rather "blunt" with me - I guess some are using it as an excuse to have a go at people they've never liked for whatever reason, carte blanche style. Shame.

MumofBaby · 29/12/2008 13:41

Who invented moldies???

LucyJones · 29/12/2008 13:41

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut - some people are upset because they have real life friends on here and/or have posted on here for years and years and feel slighted by friends they've made on here not inviting them to invitation only forum

JeremyVile · 29/12/2008 13:40

Its almost always the way with contentious threads - they tail off into talk of pants or X-Files or somesuch.
It's part of the heeeeeeeeealing process.

Quattrocento · 29/12/2008 13:39

Oh okay, thanks VVV. Obviously I had a sense of humour failure.

As to Moldies feeling unwelcome, that was bound to happen and in a sense, something you either feel yourselves, or if it genuinely is something other people are feeling (which I doubt) it has been brought on by yourselves, no? People like Expat still on here and made very very welcome.

It will all blow over in no time at all. It would blow over faster if people didn't come on and reignite the issue.

It would really be best if we all didn't talk about this at ALL until the new year or something.

MumofBaby · 29/12/2008 13:39

Slut- I'm of the same perspective as you.

NorthernLurker · 29/12/2008 13:39

Oh damn Hunker - you're right. Goodness knows how many mumsnetters aren't stowing the butler in his rightful place!

StealthPoHoHoHo · 29/12/2008 13:38

It's a drawback of being able to hide threads I'm afraid. If we try to police keeping threads on one topic then it will be ahuge job and will be a bit draconian. People talk about what they want to. Anyone is free to join in or hide the thread. That's MN
