If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies, please do it here so folks can hide this if they want to.

Well hopefully the title says it all. There's been a suggestion, and we agree, that as we did with Baby P and the Mc Canns we just have one thread where anyone who feels they still have anything to add on this subject can post and those who'd rather move on can hide it away.

It feels strange to put this thread in site stuff as we are definitely not wanting to encourage further discussion of Moldies (we have presents to wrap too you know ) but we weren't sure where else to put it.

We will delete any new Moldies threads that are started, so please feel free to report them in case we miss any (what with wrapping the presents and all...)

And if you do want to carry on the discussion please remember that Mumsnet's here to make everyone's lives easier and not the reverse, and that Christmas is a time of goodwill to all mumsnetters past, present and future

Thanks,
MNHQ

are you riven, nmc? i wondered where you'd got to.

zippitippitoes · 29/12/2008 16:03

afaik

it started off as facebook friends but facebook was annoying so as an alternative the freebie forum set up was used and the people who had been communicating on the facebook moved on to that

and then some more people were asked

the fact that it is a forum is more to do with mechanics than anything, that is a user friendly format which bridges msn and facebook if you want to be able to have several conversations with different people happening at once, but as it is free it is rather clunky

needmorecoffee · 29/12/2008 16:02

ooooooo, I notice the Torygraph includes me in the title....
'Mumsnet website riven by rows between new and older mothers'

thats me, that is

Aitch · 29/12/2008 16:00

daisy, it's all been covered tbh. there was a lot of discussion as to everyone inviting their mates (in fact that's how members came in the first place, then it was decided to close things down a bit) but the majority wanted a limited number.

don't think for one second that there weren't voices challenging the decisions, because there were... there are still the same people after all.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 29/12/2008 15:55

If I had been invited to a new forum with lots of old MN mates, I would be wanting to extend that invite to other MN mates. It just seems like all the moldies who have posted here have happily started posting and not questioned where this alternative reality appeared from or it's workings. surely there is an explanation in the "about us" bit of the site? Seems a bit to me! but I am an old cynic.

I'm not sure if this was all covered on the original, deleted threads, but it comes across, to me personally, rightly or wrongly as though the moldies who are posting on here about the site are spouting the party politic, with a bit of individual spin thrown in for good measure.

It's a shame it has caused this ruck really as MN is a fantastic place and is so much more than the sum of its parts.

I never got my acceptance from the DofM actually. Did I bugger up my application?

brightongirldownunder · 29/12/2008 15:49

Accepted as an anti mouldie! Huzzah - thankyou whoever you are. And now I must go before I fall asleep on my laptop.........

Did you not think, "Oh, so and so would like it here" and inquire as to how you could invite them lockets? for the membership to be closed, there must surely have been some sort of announcememt from the organisers? some "rules of our club" type statements?

I, like a lot of people, are finding it difficult to grasp the concept of being part of this forum but not being aware of how it actually works. Although from the limited info imparted by members of it, it appears to me that it must be pretty much like being in a vacuum.

brightongirldownunder · 29/12/2008 15:29

She's very gifted and talented thats for sure..

Quattrocento · 29/12/2008 15:29

walking now, yes. Typing as well.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 29/12/2008 15:27

the no mentioning of it was confirmed by either a moldie or ex-moldie on the original thread.

catinthehat1 · 29/12/2008 15:27

Are you walking yet? The writing style is vv good for a littley.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 29/12/2008 15:26

quattro, I'm also that you are only 18mo old, and with children and everything

I would say that you have every right to comment as most posters here are aware that it's got nothing to do with the length of time you have posted (some moldies are relative newcomers), very little to do with the fact that "our children are older so we have no need to discuss babies and weaning" (some moldies have very new babies), and everything to do with whether your face, or wit, fits.

I appreciate that it may not have started off like that, but that's what it appears to have become and that will always cause resentment from those not included.

One point for Hunker, and Jools too, you are both very keen on wanting to say "Hang on a mo, that's not right/not how it happened".

But actually, how it happened is entirely and completely irrelevant. The fact is that it did happen. Going to great lengths showing people how it happened really cannot do anything other than aggravate.

I understand why you would feel the need to do that but it honestly won't do anything other than make matters worse.

For me, I've decided to follow some of my own advice and shut up on this topic. As an 18 mth old poster, it really is none of my business.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 29/12/2008 15:16

lockets, as has been said millions countless numbers of times; the upset that has been caused is that certain MNers, of long standing and who felt they had a shared history with several moldies, have been deliberately excluded and have been discussed and, in custy's words, "found wanting". That's what sparked the original debate, although that is now sadly lost in a spate of accusations and counter accusations and name calling.

There are real people involved here, people who have idly wondered where their friends have gone, friends who although still in possession email, msn and facebook details, have neglected to mention that they have a new forum to post on, because they have been told not to talk about it or invite anyone else.

This isn't just about anonymous posters posting elsewhere; it's about what is being perceived as a betrayal of friendships.

Maybe it takes being a bit distanced from it all to see that?

brightongirldownunder · 29/12/2008 15:16

ho de hum
"Invites only" has always caused problems when people in the know have been left out. Petty and pointless.
I'm just so puzzled by it all.
It is a secret club if you are rejected because someone doesn't want you to join. Everyone knows about the Masons, but they are still a secret club. Ok, how about we call it a PRIVATE club? Would that make Mouldies happier? Sounds a bit sleazy if you ask me...

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 29/12/2008 15:12

hmm...after joining this thread so ignorantly, I felt the need to see what it was all about, and read those articles and a blog and stuff...

I can actually understand why there are so many people hurt, now, and tbh, anyone who thought it wouldn't hurt a lot of people must have been ratehr shortsighted....! How could it not have hurt people who feel they would have the right to be part of the club.

I find it quite ironic, as in the past , if newer members mentioned cliquieness (sp?) it always tended to be denied by longer standing members....members who may well possibly now are members f this all so "exclusive" little club.

Personally I truely don't care. Tbh, I think it's a bit pathetic...surely if you are such good friends you just msn eachother or stuff like that...you wouldn't need an exclusive little club....! Having an exclsuive club is all about show, really...even though it is meant to be secret of course....honest...it seems all like a terrible idiotic joke.
And, only proffs all those members right that always said, that some mn'ers simply seem to believe they are better than the rest!

And pssst....but I also came across something that said, that mumsnet was set up for middle class mums....OMG....I don't think I am allowed on here, really....lol...

zippitippitoes · 29/12/2008 15:12

to me moldies is more like a cross between email and msn and facebook woithout the annoying applications

so a bit like the facebook wall

except you dont feel a personal obligation to answer anybody

and you can look at it once or twice a day and catch up in ten minutes

seeing it in national papers is a farce it is like someone writing a piece on your address book or facebook friends

i am this is still rumbling on

and i am not terribly at the appalling journalism in these national papers....it does show if they make such a total balls up reporting from stuff written in front of them on a computer screen what kind of tosspot piffle they must be writing about important stuff..it beggars belief

i think they must be filing stories on their mobile fones on the tube or something
