That is about 90% of the internet. Women identifying as women online can expect to be abused (rather than disagreed with) for the mildest comment on much of social media. Its not an accident that women are less willing to get involved in public discussion/life when doing so requires us to subject ourselves to abuse from anonymous drones.

Women's spaces are precious because they are rare. There are plenty of spaces for men (including Dadsnet) but of course that requires them to put in the effort, contribute and engage in discussions rather than jumping in on content created by women.

Have you told Ed Davey about how precious women's spaces are? I believe he's a bloke.

You need to explain your logic - I'm missing the relevance of Ed Davey, out of all the male population, needing me to tell him about women's spaces. As far as I'm aware he is not on MN and has plenty of people pointing out the importance of women's spaces.

How is this relevant to my opinion that MN would be a better place if it was specifically a women's space rather than only a majority women's space?

He is relevant to women who vote for him with his views on women and single sex spaces.

This thread is about men posting on mumsnet. No idea why you felt the need to shoehorn Ed Davey, who to the best of my knowledge does not post on MN, into the thread.

I think this is key. The kind of man who posts on mumsnet is the kind of man who can't or won't talk about stuff to the women in his life, either because he's pissed them off or doesn't respect their opinion enough.

I don't dislike men. There are a lot of men I love and admire. None of them would post on mumsnet.

Similarly I don't go on pistonheads (or wherever the dads congregate now) saying "hey gents, woman here, just giving you my perspective on xyz"

Funnily enough, the very husband I'm talking of actually said this to me the other day: "Is there a Dadsnet?" 😂

I might be getting old, but I genuinely cannot tell if this is a joke or not.

I’d love to know why they ever called it MUMSnet if men were always going to be welcomed. I’m really sick of there being nowhere we can just have for our bloody selves.

Because they assumed men would know they are not mums but the confusion was too much so here they are.

I don’t think it is ok to single men out for criticism & suggest they should leave.

If they break site rules, report them like anyone else that says things you find offensive and get their posts deleted. Don’t need to ban all men from contributing to discussions. Or what next - no older women, no childless women, no one that doesn’t fit the Mumnnet typical “type”?

I joined MUMsnet because it was a women-centred forum - something as rare as hens' teeth online.

There is a dadsnet - I would not post there because it is to centre dads' interests.
The bulk of online discussion groups are dominated by men.

It is perfectly legitimate to set up or to want a women centred parenting forum precisely because there are so few compared to male dominated spaces. Years ago men were few and far between on MN and did not impact the overall feel of a women's space. Now the percentage is much higher and we have endless threads of "man here" or variations on "my wife won't shag me" and "NAMALT".

Or to put it another way - if MN loses that women-centred focus it loses its USP. Why on earth would women bother to come here if it's the same as every other male-dominated forum? They certainly are not coming for the high quality interface and app.

Either stay or don't stay.

MN has made the decision to welcome men and personally I agree with that decision. Just think the name doesn't really represent who it wants to appeal to.

Another man bashing thread

Not every man wants to talk about beer and football. I find a lot of interesting threads here, and some that are just odd thatI swerve. The founders welcome men so that’s good enough. I make sure my username makes it clear I’m male. If were all moved to dadsnet there are plenty i wouldn’t want to speak to. In my off board life i work in a female dominated industry and have always had better female friends than male ones. I have never mentioned my sex life on here and never will, that’s creepy.

Like when posters say 'I just asked DH and he says...' 🤮

They certainly are not coming for the high quality interface and app. Well you’ve definitely got a point there.

I’d prefer that men didn’t post here but sometimes I feel a bit sorry for the odd one who seems to genuinely want a female perspective as opposed to mansplaining something to the ladies. There’s a single dad on a current thread and he’s had so much grief which I just don’t think a single mum would have received.

I think it’s ok not to want men in what many think of as a female space and to call out those who are arseholes but if someone is respectful and genuine I have less of an issue with it personally.
