My DD's got given a doll each for Christmas by my SIL.

One called hers Hatty after a friend she sees regularly and the other called her doll Yellow. At the time she called everything yellow, it's still her favourite word.

My original login name was the name of my cat and not very exciting - so I thought I'd have a change.

I imagine people assume when you have a female name in your name that it is actually your name - I assume that with other posters which is probably wildy inaccurate...I'm quite happy if people think my name is Hatty!

I joined in a hurry and used the name of an old email address; it's an amalgamation of a bit of my name and a bit of DD1's.
It's crap, I need a new one..

i'd never changed mine so now I have! Quite liked all the thinking so don't tell me you hate it!!

When I went for my 9 week scan when pg with ds, he looked like a turtle.
When I went for my 12 week scan he bounced!
Hence BouncingTurtle.
He is now Sharkboy so I suppose I should call myself Sharkboysmummy.
But I'll stick with my name as it is now

It's the name of one of my favourite books, also a username I've used elsewhere so is easy for me to remember.

Yes definitely Mollysawally! For instance if your name denotes something expensive people take against you, or if it denotes something arty people like you (I find).

There is a guy that comes in to the pub where I work. He has a boat called bellavita. He thought it sounded italian which it is and because he knew my mum is italian, he asked me if I knew what it meant, thing was he kept on asking me as he kept forgetting what I had said to him every time - so the name just stuck in my mind.

I chose my name just after we'd moved out of military accomodation and into our own place.

I glanced around the room when registering, to just put something in, fully intending to change it to something clever and witty. Never got round to it!

Mine - I was typing various dragon names years ago for an email address, and suddenly found I had written Flamesparrow and it was accepted. (bloody odd...)

It fits me - I have a flamey side and a small birdy side. StGeorge tells me that the sparrow is a very strong little bird, despite appearances. I like that

I have had quite a few different names in my time, and it has been interesting how differently people react to different names (not going to be specific!).

Claricebeansmum - re names you want being unavailable but never posting - I had a name I really liked and then flounced once and de-registered from MN. Then when I calmed down and came back it told me the name was already taken - and I was thinking 'Yes, by ME' but it's kind of stuck in limbo now.

Because I am the other side of the channel from most of you.

If I had known how much I post I would have put a bit more effort into thinking of my name but I don't feel like changing.

Because the first billion names I tried were taken or I thought they might be too close to existing mnetters that I'd seen in all my time of lurking.
I did intend to change it after a couple of days when I thought of something better - then I had ds2 and as with everything since I've been a mum of two - I've never found the time!

I might start referring to the children as flibberteeny1 and flibberteeny2.

It doesn't lend itself to any seasonal name changes but in July could name change to LaFlibbertine for Bastille day (clutching at straws....)

And now 2 years on people know flibbertyjibbet so I can't be arsed to change it.

• one of our first dates was to go and see Monsters Inc at the cinema. DH said the character Boo was very cute and I reminded him of her. SO I got 'iklboo' - he is large & hairy and looks scary but is really very gentle so I call him 'Kitty' (cos Boo calls Sully 'Kitty' in the film)

I love the Quentin Blake book "Fantastic Daisy Artichoke" and that was my original name. But everyone seemed to think that I believed that I was fantastic, so I dropped the first two words. Also artichokes are my fav food.
