Moderation Sex Board

onirgellep · 13/04/2023 23:06

Back in February Justine* committed to an urgent review of moderation of the Sex Board subsequent to the considerable concerns mainly arising from the longstanding Sex Chat thread

Unsurprisingly, issues continue

Would it be possible to have an update on the progress of the review?

And hear when do you anticipate it being completed and the new moderation put into action?

Thank you

I'm afraid I'm unable to link Justine's post on the thread References to Underage Sex on the Sex Board* page 13

I'm just going to sneak in here with this...

The sex board is visible to people who aren't logged in??? Im absolutely gobsmacked at that.

@Pixiedust1234 I've just doubled checked as I was sure it couldn't be true, but yes it's visible even if you're not logged in. 😲

I'm really surprised as lots of other sites have specific boards that are only viewable to those logged in, when it comes to the Sex board I thought that would basic safeguarding step.

By starting a thread about the sex board, all you are doing is drawing more traffic to the board now.....

Maybe

Maybe more browsing traffic having their own view of what they see there, both positive and negative

This controversy doesn't seem to have increased posting there - rather the reverse as confirmed by one of the regulars there on a now deleted thread

But if so, it's not all that's happening

@horridjobescapee it isn’t members wishes, it was MNHQ.
Please don’t question my intelligence just because I hold a different opinion to you.

horridjobescapee · 16/04/2023 07:32

But site stuff as a board exists to alert MNHQ to issues.

That's what is being done here.

MathsNervous · 16/04/2023 07:30

horridjobescapee · 16/04/2023 07:28

The alternative is that potentially, illegal activities are allowed to stand unchallenged on that board.

I know which I prefer.

But that's what MNHQ's job is. Leave the staff to it to police the sex board and/or any other board on the site.

If we go by what certain members want @Mermaidparades we wouldn't even be able to challenge each other's thinking at all.

And if you can't see the deliberate attempts to derail for what they are, then I'm not sure what Anyone can say that will be of any use.

Mermaidparades · 16/04/2023 07:13

@TheShellBeach i can’t imagine why anyone would want the thread deleted. What purpose would that serve? MN gave clear guidelines for this thread, only discuss the topic in hand. Follow the guidelines and there would be no reason to delete the thread.

LangClegsInSpace · 15/04/2023 21:22

It is tricky.

I don't think there are any bullet proof ways of protecting children online but a parenting site that doesn't even look as if it's trying is not somewhere I want to be.

Despite my negativity above I actually agree with you on that

Even Reddit manages to do better

We must ensure that this thread stays up.

It is very important that this thread stays up.

It's clear there are attempts to derail this thread so as to get it deleted. When they haven't worked the ante has been upped.

I fell for it.

I won't again.

It was your turn 😕

I cannot see any bullying but I can see that there are some attempts to derail the thread and get it deleted.

I brought up the rugby league thread as a consideration in a discussion about safe guarding and moderation and how those concerns may apply to MN as a whole.

Having read your comment, I think it was whataboutery. A thread on a other board that may have been inappropriate, being brought up by you and compared to the sex board posts, as a way to justify some of the disgusting things posted over there.

You are apparently concerned about safeguarding, yet didn’t report it. You want women to be safe yet defend a male poster who asked another poster on this thread to find sex sites. When women said they were uncomfortable, you told them they were taking it too seriously.

You may want to tell us you are concerned for women, safeguarding and want moderation, but your posts seem to say something different at times.

The board needs robust moderation and soon, if it has to stay. Someone mentioned mumsnet were against a sex board for years, they should look again at why they felt that way and what is happening now.

MidnightWordle · 16/04/2023 04:02

People here are making excellent points about the issues on the sex board.

They’re talking about the sort of moderation that could be used to help the situation. Some have mentioned that maybe it’s not possible to have a sex board anymore due to the safeguarding issues raised.

It’s very, very obvious that certain posters want yet another thread shut down so that these extremely valid concerns and suggestions can’t be talked about. It’s very obvious why they would want this shut down.

I hope mumsnet can see what we can see here and don’t fall for the claims of bullying.

I’m absolutely disgusted by what I’ve just read. There’s a contingent here in this thread who consistently are ignoring MN’s request not to make personal attacks. The group swoop in and pick on one member of the opposition, it’s very intimidating. I have reported this thread for harassment of @Surplus2requirements . Shame on you all.

Here we go again.

’We don’t like what we’re hearing so we say we’re being bullied and harassed ’.

I too was disgusted but by different things.

The man you claim is being bullied defended a man who intimidated another poster by asking them to find sex sites for him. That same man minimised many posters feelings on the matter. This man claims to care about people bring safe but doesn’t report threads he finds more graphic than on the sex topic that he was surprised was there due to the nature of the content.

I could go on.

Calling this stuff out doesn’t equal bullying.

I'm trying to have a constructive conversation about moderation and safeguarding both of which I believe are important.

I am not a 'sex person' any more than I am a 'chat person' or a 'property and diy person'.

I am not on a side but believe that the sex board plays an important role and that safeguarding is important for many, primarily women and children.

I say that as a survivor now can we please stop thinking in terms of sides and discuss moderation and safeguarding which is far more important than petty personal squabbling* *

Your probably right. The question is does it have implications for safeguarding over the whole of MN?

Yes.
Goodnight.

I thought it might be constructive, why I'm being singled out from the probably thousands of MN users that read it is beyond me
