Moderation Sex Board

onirgellep · 13/04/2023 23:06

Back in February Justine* committed to an urgent review of moderation of the Sex Board subsequent to the considerable concerns mainly arising from the longstanding Sex Chat thread

Unsurprisingly, issues continue

Would it be possible to have an update on the progress of the review?

And hear when do you anticipate it being completed and the new moderation put into action?

Thank you

I'm afraid I'm unable to link Justine's post on the thread References to Underage Sex on the Sex Board* page 13

I saw the thread with the link to incest and teen sex and the posters wanting hook ups. I also saw the threads yesterday discussing them.

If I had posted this link and didn’t realise what it contained, when I found out that it contained teen sex and incest, I would feel horrified. When confronted with that information, I wouldn’t just say something like ‘oops’ and then comment that other quite weird sounding things on there sound fun, which is what the OP of the thread did. I would instead be very, very, very keen to say that the site is horrible for hosting that sort of thing. But that didn’t happen.

If I was another user of the sex topic, a friend of OP commenting on that thread, I again would be very, very, very keen to point out that the site is horrible for hosting that sort of thing. But, again, that didn’t happen. The posters main priority was to defend the OP more generally.

It’s not good enough to be silent on these matters, when you were vocal on the threads yesterday. Speak out against this stuff or your look like you’re ok with it.

A poster started a thread.
Some people thought it broke TG so reported it.
It got removed.

That's how mumsnet works right?

A poster posted a NSFW link. It was reported. Poster apologised.

This is the same action that would be taken across any topic on the whole site. It's a daily occurance of threads being reported and investigated and deleted by mn if appropriate to do so.

So why is everyone flagging on site stuff everytime this happens in the sex topic?

You don't come on site stuff and start threads about every dodgy AIBU post. You just report it. Job done.
So when you are constantly flagging every single thing that happens on the sex topic it does become like a vendetta against the sex topic.

Mumsnet have the data, not any of us.

Report it and get on with your day. Let mumsnet do their job.

It's partly an issue that some people seem to have with male posters on the Sex Topic threads (but more generally on MN) and partly with the hatred that these same people have for one particular female poster, who does not have such a problem with them. Hence, she is frequently the subject of abuse and bullying on here and elsewhere - and repeated attempts to get her removed from the site - while the men are usually dismissed simply as pervs. Fortunately, HQ are tuned in to this nasty little game and allow the bullies only so much rope before they rein them in. Or simply delete threads when they get completely out of hand - as the recent examples on Site Stuff demonstrate. All rather unpleasant really.

BananaMuse · 14/04/2023 12:18

Wouldn’t it be great if people could acknowledge that some individuals are interested in and want to ask questions about sex without getting their own knickers in a twist about it?

It sounds like there’s a solid argument for reverting to the original 30 day membership before allowing posters to use that particular forum, and maybe having a filter system where any posts with links are reviewed before they go
live.

As for the Sex chat/hook ups thread…we’re adults, presumably with a modicum of common sense. Don’t share personal info too quick and If someone sends something inappropriate it’s very easy to report and block them.

If MN have decided they don’t want to have those in their site anymore that’s their privilege but making a song and dance about it after the fact seems a bit pointless.

There will always be the odd dodgy character wherever you go but plenty of people (myself included) met genuine, respectful individuals in that thread and had (and in some cases) are still enjoying a lot of fun and friendship as a result.

I can confirm that nobody defended the site that was linked but did defend a poster who was subjected to sustained bullying by a group

Oh, well that's all right, then.
Surplus is "confirming" things for us.
Thank goodness he's here.

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 11:39

Well it's certainly not a website about teen sex and incest that's for sure

But you said you hadn't been on it, @HornyBee so how do you know?

Pixiedust1234 · 14/04/2023 11:33

HornyBee · 14/04/2023 08:14

I don't think it was underage sex. There were mentions of teen sex but not underage sex. I haven't been on the website myself as I have zero interest in it so I may be wrong.

HornyBee · Today 08:43
Well it's certainly not a website about teen sex and incest that's for sure. Thanks for your apology.

So you admit you haven't been in the website itself but you are confident that the other posters are lying about the content? Seriously?? Why are you defending something you know nothing about?

everywhichway · 14/04/2023 11:09

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 10:59

Vendetta?

Oh yes.

Surplus2requirements · 14/04/2023 11:09

Back to topic...

The thread in question was taken down for review quickly which shows that moderation is taking place as it should.

I can confirm that nobody defended the site that was linked but did defend a poster who was subjected to sustained bullying by a group.

Some might reflect on why other threads on site stuff are also being removed.

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 10:59

everywhichway · 14/04/2023 10:49

Now let's see an end to the vendetta please.

Vendetta?

onirgellep · 14/04/2023 10:55

I wonder if it would be helpful to have a banner at the top of the Sex Board in decent sized script saying something like

Mumsnet is not a hook up site - any attempt to use it in this way will lead to automatic deletion and being banned

Do not send unsolicited PMs

Do not post NSFW images/links - check content before posting

Do do not be a creep ???

Perhaps there should be clear consequences for breaking these very simple rules -other sites ban or temporarily suspend posters breaking rules

Given that the most of the Sex Board is NSFW perhaps in should be required to log in first as with other sites

IDK just some ideas

Mermaidparades · 14/04/2023 10:46

Please let this one go. I didn’t realise the website contained those sections, I have apologised to everyone here, I have apologised to Mumsnet. It was an honest mistake.

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 10:28

The OP of the deleted thread was hoping MN would reinstate it

The OP of the deleted thread didn't understand why MN had deleted it and did not herself report the posts which led to the deletion.

HornyBee · 14/04/2023 10:07

I think people should be able to report threads on the sex board the same way as on any other board without being told 'to not look at it if you don't like it' It's already full of troll threads. It's not a private club after all.

Exactly. These people are happy to keep going on to the sex topic and reporting threads that break TG, then carry on. It's a good thing. Like I said above, the sex topic works in the same way as the rest of the site. You have concerns, you report it. Others might not have concerns and won't report it. Mumsnet will make the decision.

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 14/04/2023 10:02

The OP of the deleted thread was hoping MN would reinstate it. It's pretty clear to me it broke the rules by linking to a NSFW site and encouraging people to slyly ask for DMs.

Tell me something someone said in defence of the website. Anyone on the thread will know if it's true or not.

Sorry not going to engage with this bar room barristery

Why can't you discuss moderation on the sex board in general terms rather than derailing into personalised stuff which will lead to this being deleted too

This is a good question that @HornyBee needs to answer. I think we can all guess what’s happening though.

I will happily answer.

If you actually have a read through the thread you will see that I DID NOT bring up the website. That was not me. I have responded to other posters posting about it.
If you actually read my first posts I was - "discussing moderation on the sex board in general terms".

Thank you

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 09:58

Anyone on the thread will know if it's true or not

That's true, so there is no need to post screenshots of a deleted thread.

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 09:57

On the subject of moderation again, I would like to know how MNHQ feels about the measures loosely put in place much earlier in this debacle.
Are they working?
Are safeguarding policies still under review?
What is the response to posters who continue to start threads which are clearly designed to assist people who want sex chats and hook-ups online?
MN is a parenting site where abused women come for advice about their cheating husbands and partners FFS.

HornyBee · 14/04/2023 09:55

onirgellep · 14/04/2023 09:51

And can you 'back that up'?

No you can't - because it's all been deleted

Agreed. That was what the OP was about - not the many deleted threads about the sex chat hook-ups thread(s).

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 09:52

zampheta · 14/04/2023 09:49

Incest is illegal. Are stories about incest illegal?

No, Flowers in the Attic (and others, running theme of incest) was an international bestseller, but I'm guessing on a sex site the stories will be rather different to something suitable for the general mass market.

It's a sex site with chat rooms, so I dread to think what they say to each other about teen sex and incest.
