Moderation Sex Board

onirgellep · 13/04/2023 23:06

Back in February Justine* committed to an urgent review of moderation of the Sex Board subsequent to the considerable concerns mainly arising from the longstanding Sex Chat thread

Unsurprisingly, issues continue

Would it be possible to have an update on the progress of the review?

And hear when do you anticipate it being completed and the new moderation put into action?

Thank you

I'm afraid I'm unable to link Justine's post on the thread References to Underage Sex on the Sex Board* page 13

It also doesn't mean it needs more moderation than the rest of the site

Well, we'll have to disagree on that.

What evidence/data do you have that means the sex topic needs more moderation?

The sex topic needs more moderation because some of the posters on it show a definite enthusiasm for starting new hook-up threads, which MNHQ banned a couple of months ago.
The hook-up threads were seedy/sleazy/pervy.
Completely out of place on a parenting site where women post to get support after their husbands cheat on them.
Very odd that this site ever hosted hook-up threads, anyway.
However, MNHQ did finally say that they would not permit them any more.
Some of the regular posters on the sex topic clearly didn't approve of this, because they have started at least two more threads where people were encouraged to post their "requirements" (e.g. Male, 55)
That is not on.
That is grim.
And out of place on here.

So you report it and mn will delete if appropriate. Like THE REST OF THE SITE.
It's up to MN to deal with posters if they feel they are repeat offenders of breaking rules. If mn are not banning these posters they obviously don't think they are causing a problem.
Just because the content is not to your taste it doesn't mean its breaking TG.
It also doesn't mean it needs more moderation than the rest of the site.

HeartbreakHouse · 14/04/2023 13:26

won’t

HeartbreakHouse · 14/04/2023 13:24

HornyBee · 14/04/2023 13:13

Why is it clear it needs more moderation?
Posts are reported and deleted where necessary just like the rest of the site.

The only difference is everyone keeps moaning on site stuff each time it happens!

What evidence/data do you have that means the sex topic needs more moderation?

Because you think so isn't a good enough reason!

I don’t bother answering as it looks like others have covered it.

horridjobescapee · 14/04/2023 13:23

And also. Despite there having been a clear statement from MNHQ on moderation of the sex topic, nsfw links are still posted and threads stand for quite some time that link to teen sex and incest videos.

So clearly the statement on moderation isn't working as those links and threads are still being posted and standing for quite some time.

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 13:21

The only difference is everyone keeps moaning on site stuff each time it happens!

It should not need to happen.

horridjobescapee · 14/04/2023 13:20

The reason I think it would be a good idea to change the moderation on the sex board is because unsavoury threads stand for quite some time before being deleted.

That's not a good look for a parenting site.

I agree with this.

It's an issue for mumsnet as this is a post moderated site where threads and posts are only deleted if they are reported.

I wonder if it would be possible for mumsnet to consider having pro-active moderation on the sex topic? Having a mod who is looking at the content on an ongoing Basis?

I've wondered about pre-moderation too - other sites large and small manage to do it with contentious topics

But there's obviously a cost implication And also the wellbeing of moderators

Plus the inevitable push-back from the Sex Board users

Back to what this thread is actually about, it’s clear that more effective moderation is needed on the sex topic.

LotsOfBalloons · 14/04/2023 13:12

And yes it's bizarre that a thread about moderation has people leaping on it to defend xyz. Definite distraction. As I said before - what is it they want /are afraid of losing?

LotsOfBalloons · 14/04/2023 13:12

I'm shocked that we ever had hook up thread or even think mn is a good place for that. Or that anyone is linking to hook up sites. Like really!? And then links to sites for underage sex/incest.... I can't see why anyone who joined mn for reasons other than hook ups/sex chat wouldn't find this a problem.

@HeartbreakHouse you think I should just sit back and allow myself to be bullied? No, I don’t think so! If you don’t want to be called out for bullying then don’t engage in that behaviour.

What have I said that is bullying?

I think most people then presumed that you reported yourself to save yourself, rather than having any real concern for the content. That’s because you didn’t show any concern and didn’t seem disgusted.

This is what I don’t get…why are other posters so keen to analyse and judge me?? You realise this is starting to look like a personal vendetta. Bullying.

There’s that tactic. De rail, shout bullying and get the thread deleted. Please don’t do that.

My posts are reasonable and explain what I saw and the impression I believe many have.

This is a parenting site, the nature of the posts you’re involved in will bring attention and ‘analysis’. Hookups/incest/teen sex very much jar with the rest of mumsnet, and some of those are just plain unacceptable anywhere really.

Mermaidparades · 14/04/2023 12:57

@SpringCherryTrees i linked a social media site , didn’t realise it contained teen sex and incest videos, and reported myself to MNHQ when I was made aware of my error.

SpringCherryTrees · 14/04/2023 12:51

HornyBee · 14/04/2023 08:14

I don't think it was underage sex. There were mentions of teen sex but not underage sex. I haven't been on the website myself as I have zero interest in it so I may be wrong.

I don’t know anything about the sex topic threads and have never been on them. I only came across this thread today. But I am shocked that dodgy sites have been linked and this is surely the number one concern?

@HeartbreakHouse i was genuinely mortified, I do tend to use humour as a coping mechanism/ deflector but MN could confirm that I reported straight away and apologised.

I think it was a big mistake that you and others didn’t make that clear on the thread. I have the impression that you and others just thought ‘oh well’.

When it comes to illegal/dodgy topics like incest and teen sex, I believe most people’s reactions would be one disgust. That’s if they think that of course.

It's partly an issue that some people seem to have with male posters on the Sex Topic threads (but more generally on MN) and partly with the hatred that these same people have for one particular female poster, who does not have such a problem with them. Hence, she is frequently the subject of abuse and bullying on here and elsewhere - and repeated attempts to get her removed from the site - while the men are usually dismissed simply as pervs. Fortunately, HQ are tuned in to this nasty little game and allow the bullies only so much rope before they rein them in. Or simply delete threads when they get completely out of hand - as the recent examples on Site Stuff demonstrate. All rather unpleasant really.

Hate is a strong word. I doubt anyone hates that poster. They don’t know them. They’re just fed up them adding sleaze to the site, hook up threads and now unacceptable links. It keeps happening.

Some if they posters on the sex topic do seem ‘unsavoury’. No one in their right mind can believe that some of the stuff on their is real. Lots of it reads like very bad porn scenarios. Of course, if mumsnet has no evidence it’s a perv, they leave it up. It doesn’t mean it’s real and not a perv and lots of posters do find that quite sickening on a parenting forum.

It was clear to me reading yesterday, that the ‘sex people’ 😬 side of the argument have a tactic to deliberately get threads discussing the issues removed. I’m always suspicious when people do that.

Mermaidparades · 14/04/2023 12:35

@HornyBee I am so sad to see you are being treated this way, it is despicable and bullying. And I feel dreadful that I am to blame for it. But I have apologised and apologised. I don’t know what they are hoping to accomplish now. Xx

HornyBee · 14/04/2023 12:31

TheShellBeach · 14/04/2023 11:39

Well it's certainly not a website about teen sex and incest that's for sure

But you said you hadn't been on it, @HornyBee so how do you know?

Why the fuck are you quoting me out of context @TheShellBeach ?

For the record people (if you can be bothered to read the thread you will know this) but-

Someone asked what I found funny. I said it certainly wasn't a website about teen sex or incest that I found funny.

I DID NOT SAY-
the website wasn't about teen sex or incest

Context is everything and taking something out of context in that way to try and make me look bad is disgusting and a pathetic thing to do.
