Mumsnet turning into Tattle

Anyone else noticed how horrible some of the users on Mumsnet are. There are a few threads on here that I have read and some of the users are so rude with their replies, it reminds me of Tattle the way the users just slate and put people down. I think, would they be so rude and obnoxious if you was asking their advice face to face.

You must have read a different thread to me. Because it was full of toxic ,bitchy comments about the outfits, dogs,carpets , mirrors etc,

I agree. There's a surprisingly close community on Tattle who provide support to people facing tough times.

Most of it is an irreverent look at the fakeness of Insta fame and calling out the bullshit misconceptions. Which is why the celebs hate it.

Some people take it too far but genuinely I find MN a far more unpleasant and less supportive site on the whole.

Usually Tattle deletes any reference to Mumsnet instantly.

I have had many brilliant, thought provoking and intelligent conversations with so many members over on tattle - even ones where difference of opinion is obvious. The trouble is lots of media websites direct the shit-stirrers and the ones whose only wish is to slag people off - by the way they describe the website so of course you get nastiness.

I find MN much worse for obnoxiousness and the inability to not debate without having a Barney!

That sounds like something a tattle user would post. I get they are nice to each other and only slate public figures. But what does that say about that person slating someone they do not know. Or giving them harsh advice on here that they wouldn't dream of giving if they had to say it to that person face to face.

I agree Mumsnet is worse than Tattle! On here the nastiness is rife and it’s for the most random things.

On Tattle posters are actually nice to each other - but can be very nasty about the public figures they are talking about.

They are both the same. They are abusing a human being. If it's something they wouldn't say to their faces they shouldn't comment. Mumsnet and tattle users.

I didn't know about tattle only someone I follow on instagram said they had said some hurtful stuff about her baby daughter. I think the people that use that site to comment are the lowest of the low. I'd love for one day for them all to be exposed. All it takes it some hacker to hack the site and expose all their IP addresses.

Seen the thread on Tattle about mumsnet? Picking over certain posts and I imagine ‘sending’ users ‘over here’ 👋So I guess there is some crossover and in one particular recent thread I think some comments were from Tattle users who were on some sort of mission to prove the OP was faking.

Yes. I posted something this week about my husbands health worries and some of the replies and criticism of him and me were so unnecessary. I unfollowed the thread in the end. If you aren't going to be helpful maybe just leave it...

Does mumsnet have ability for OP to close comments like on Facebook? I think that would be a good feature

Tattle is way worse than here. Tattle literally allow their own users to dox celebs and even their own members?! The mods on tattle say all the right things such as report posts etc...what do they do when they get sick of a user reporting "too much?" They take away the ability for the user to report all together. I've seen tens of people ganging up against one user and honing in on them, eventually leading to the user being doxed. I couldn't report it so was watching it all unfold. Someone else eventually reported it and do you know what tattles response was? "the user shouldn't have given away so much information about themself on the internet." which i agree, but the user did seem to have some additional needs, possibly on the ASD, and tattle mods love to victim blame. It's so toxic and I'm glad I was only on there for a week before closing my account.

We're sorry to hear this from you all.
Certainly some of what you're describing would break our guidelines, so if any of you see threads that are turning hostile, or posters that are being obnoxious we would really like to hear about it asap so that we can deal with them? You instantly know the sort of thing when you see it, we're sure. Emojis can break guidelines too.

Likewise, if you report possible trolls we can have a look for what we can see in the background. The funny, and candidly sometimes upsetting, thing is that often we get reports saying 'this is an obvious troll' and of course we can see that they have been posting for a while and have a genuine issue. This is why we ask people never to troll hunt on threads as that can lead to our most vulnerable posters getting it in the neck when they are least capable of dealing with it.

That's not to say that we always get things right, of course, but we do always look at every report so those reports assume a huge importance in the shaping of the site, and the mood that you will encounter.

Thanks for every single future report, honestly, they're completely invaluable. (And thanks for keeping us in a job!)

I agree OP, I choose which threads I comment on very carefully now. I made the mistake of commenting on a thread about SAHMs last week, won't do that again! There were 2 posters in particular on it who were pulling apart anyone who disagreed with them, including using laughing emojis to belittle them. I'll stick to the less controversial topics from now on.
