I really wish the sex board wasn’t on active. It changes the whole tone of the Mumsnet board when you click on Active. And not in a good way.
If you agree please reply to this post.

I agree, take it out of Active!
I'm not always logged in so hiding it won't work for me.

Agree....and yes HQ I know "you can hide the topic, you know", but it's not that simple, it feels like a general push to sexualise the site and make it more of a place that looks like it's being run by men who think "this is what we want women to be interested in", eg promoting vibrators to women who have just given birth.

I was trying to work out exactly what feels wrong - and think that Cat is right. It does feel like a male approach.

SlowlyRetreatMyDear · 23/02/2023 17:15

Completely agree

Plus the other thread which MNHQ have commented on highlights the concerns of reducing the time on MN from 3 months to 7 days to be able to post. It just feels sleazy and trashy now rather than good advice and conversation.

Agree completely. Also there's something really off about repeatedly marketing sex toys to brand new mums (oh wait I mean uterus havers).

Grubby and insidious. 🤮

Agree. They’ve changed the title of the ad to “reconnect with yourself after birth” or something. It sounds like you should jump off your hospital bed and get ready to be a sexual being again immediately. Icky.

Magenta82 · 23/02/2023 17:09

I agree, there are some topics that cause people to be uncomfortable but most people are interested in it fair to expect them to take personal responsibility to avoid these topics. On the other hand some topics make lots of people uncomfortable and some people very upset, it is fair to expect the people who are interested in these things to have to seek them out.

Agree.

I actually think a sex topic, on a chat board primarily aimed at women and used by women is a great idea for a useful resource for questions about all things sex; before kids, after kids, peri and post menopausal etc as well as just wanting other women's frank and open opinions on general filth.

I've looked at the current Sex board- it's not that. It seems to be a hang out for men, mainly.

This is my issue. Don't really care about the sex board either way but there's no way I'd ever post on there for advice because it's dominated by men. I can't imagine trying something new in bed and Dh says Wow, that was amazing, where did you learn that, and I
reply Oh I was just chatting to Bernard on Mumsnet and he suggested you might like it 😬

musicalgymball · 23/02/2023 17:05

It should at least be hidden by default

GoAgainstNicki · 23/02/2023 17:05

@musicalgymball but that really isn’t true at all is it? Many women post and comment on the sex boards. My experience on there has never been ‘it’s just men.’

If you don’t want to see it (which is completely your choice) why not hide it? Why does there need to be multiple threads saying the same thing when MN clearly don’t seem to be interested in the feedback

WarmWinterSun · 23/02/2023 17:03

I completely agree! I don’t want to see sex threads popping up when I’m browsing the active board. I don’t want to see the sex toy ads either.

LilyMumsnet · 23/02/2023 15:53

Hi all

Just popping in to say we posted an update on this thread regarding the wider discussion around the sex topic.

Please do have a read - we will continue taking your feedback on board in the meantime.

This is nasty.

The board is just men. The perv vibe is obvious to anyone coming to a women's forum exactly to get away from this kind of crap.

Mumsnet is here partially to avoid bords like this altogether.

Let me guess, men decided this bord was needed and men decided it shouldn't be hidden by default?

I don't want to have to learn to hide bords to use a site for women and not have sleazy men's jerk off material come up. Which mum on the Mumsnet team came up with that I wonder? Oh yeah obviously they didn't. A man came up with it. Men are obviously reviewing the decision, hence it's still there.

This board is evidence that you need more women with more power calling more of the shots at Mumsnet.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 23/02/2023 17:00

I agree. But we seem to just be getting a 'cut and paste' response from MN, which as far as I can see, hasn't addressed all the points made Hmm
