Can you say what made you feel it was the police themselves trying to get the thread deleted?

I think this point he made about it being someone local is key.

Paul seems exceptionally intelligent and I am sure he will carry on looking for resources to help. Presumably he only found Peter Faulding due to all the media coverage .

On a wider point can anyone explain how a missing persons enquiry becomes a criminal investigation? Is there a key criteria that has to happen to move it from one to the other when there is no obvious forensic evidence nor a body? As far as I can recall Claudia Lawrence also seemed to disappear with no trace and yet I think that investigation at some point must have moved from a missing persons inquiry to suspected criminal activity.

It also felt at times that it was people working inside the police who were trying to zap the thread - hope I’m not getting too conspiracy like here - with the exception of one regular poster who was local and police related. So that makes it even more important we’re allowed to discuss and raise awareness.

I'd like to point out that I am a dippy blonde and still don't think I'd manage to get into trouble in that part of the river.

Firstly Paul clearly wants it to be discussed or he wouldn’t have appeared on a prime time tv show.

secondly, a few of us have been trying to help moderate the threads by reporting comments that blame individuals. I guess at 3am there were less of us on and also MN probably has less resources to monitor.

and thirdly the threads seem to go batshit in the evenings!

I wonder if we could start a new thread and put a warning on the intro re not speculating, and more of us could report unnecessary comments. It may be zapped overnight , so maybe we could name them by date and just start a daily one?

There is absolutely plenty to discuss and why the hell should women not talk among themselves about a mum of two small dc who disappeared in unusual circumstances?

Recently we have had police raping and killing young women, insight into sexist and abusive police culture as well as women and children murdered by their male partner. We have incels sprouting online hate and spreading misogyny and the easy to access online violent porn culture.

There is SO much to discuss with the case of missing NB including why she gets all the spotlight but other cases don't get a look in (pretty, middle class, sim etc). I swear there are so many angles of misogyny in this case. The police force itself will be handling this with bags and bags of 'unconscious' bias.

It is for example rather ludicrous of the police to expect us to believe NB fell into the river as if she were a dippy blonde rather than an athletic woman who knows the area very well and is a good swimmer.

Paul himself is promoting publicity and media is participatory not one way so of course people will discuss this online. We are faced with news about NB and talking all the many weird aspects of this through in a respectful way helps to process this shit. Ultimately all women are at risk so naturally many of us are interested.

Please stop trying to shut down a conversation between women. Seriously.

My DH would be concerned if I was nearly 45 minutes late and not answering my phone. And given that she would usually be home at 09.45 would imply she should have been on her way to the car at 09.20 if not in it. Not sat on the bench.

In the other papers & broadcasts, it's covered but with less highlighting, focus & clickbait style writing

Not really. She would have probably been expected to be home to work so wouldn’t have just chatted to a friend for ages.

If my partner was 45 minutes later back from dropping our daughter off at school, that he does every day, didn’t call and didn’t answer his phone, I’d know something had happened. I wouldn’t be panicking, but I’d be wondering what was wrong. He has to start work so wouldn’t be late unless something had happened. It’s not like being 45 minutes later home than you said from a night out when you’re not going to be late got anything. It was daytime and the routine was kids, dog walk, work at home.

Utterly bizarre and distasteful sense of entitlement here that someone provide you with a forum to speculate ignorantly on a missing woman.
