I feel bad though because in the process of trying to say its not a suicide case I think I upset some people. People were speculating it was, I said its not, they say 'how do you know it could be', I then give reasons why its very much not likely, then people pop up saying how they know somebody who did it without any signs beforehand and how I'm wrong.

So apologies again if I upset anyone with that. I just don't think it can be discussed sensibly without becoming chaos, and everything that can be said about it has already been said, unless any more evidence comes to light.

I'm not a) spending a lot of time - it's a few minutes several times over a day b) reading all the news reports - I keep appraised in a normal, non-obsessive way, like I do with most news stories of national and international relevance.

I agree @SueG60 . I saw the altercation yesterday and felt that commenting so authoritatively on the state of NB’s mental health was really unpleasant and you were quite right to challenge it.

Nope. Night Watch don't receive any reports. It's just what we happen to notice or threads that have been drawn to our attention via the NW topic.

I wasn't around last night but the nightwatchers that were felt the thread should be hidden until MNHQ could look more closely at the increasing speculation, insinuation, accusations and acrimony between posters.

NW can't just monitor a thread all night and neither can MNHQ during the day. They rely on reports, as has already been pointed out by some on thie thread.

Someone earlier was looking for an example of a copper or ex copper trying to shut the post down? Ahem….

What happened last night was a certain poster came on and started trying to attack me as she had done earlier in the day, I asked her to leave me alone and not reply to me anymore and then the thread disappeared shortly after that.

At first I thought there was nothing wrong with this issue being discussed, its a truly horrific situation and people are scared/want answers on whats happened. It makes you think twice about going out on your own.

However, I think it should be left alone now. There are too many posters just trying to look for any reason to blame the family, or to try and say she was suicidal or has walked off without any evidence whatsoever. If you try and push back against their toxic narratives then it descends into arguments and they twist what you say and it goes on and on.

I found the previous threads no more than an exchange of theories in a deeply upsetting and unsettling case. It is human nature to speculate as to what may or may not have happened to a young mum going about her day x

If the new thread was a continuation of what was happening on thread 6 I can see why it got pulled. Two posters just arguing and arguing in a very unpleasant manner, someone continuously posting her inane "theories" as if she was speculating about a TV show...

Given the nasty and toxic content of three quarters of the posts on MN, I do wonder how you tell the difference? I dipped into those previous threads, and was horrified at a lot of the content - and that was the stuff that wasn't being zapped by moderators.

I much prefer talking about it on here, rather than on twitter/Facebook/Reddit with all the nut jobs.

To be fair, the thread wasn't exactly a sensible exchange of thoughts the last time I looked last night.

What makes you feel it’s the police trying to get the thread zapped?

@JaneJeffer I've no idea if it has been reported but I would assume they would have looked at Strava segments and actively followed up anyone shown to be in the area at that time - particularly a person walking some distance along the river bank.

ofwarren (sorry I don't know how to link back) this is what I'm wondering. I've always thought the river was a red herring, a very obvious one and one that should be investigated, but in other similar cases it would have been just one line of enquiry, not the only line of enquiry.
This tunnel vision is what I think is causing such anguish to Nicola's family and onlookers.

I wasn't on the deleted thread but the previous one definitely had people posting stuff to try and get it deleted whatever their reason was.
