How do we discuss the reality of parts of the UK absorbing large numbers of men from other cultures

The Life in the U.K. test has nothing to do with ‘settlement’. It’s fur people who are getting the British CITIZENSHIP.

The test itself is crap. Nothing to do with British culture but a lot of ‘oh look at how amazing Britain is’ full of false facts too.
let’s not forget the vast majority of British people wouldn’t pass the test either…..

I know someone who ran the Life in the UK test. Frequently verbally abused by men from certain countries when their wives didn’t pass.

I don't think the UK even weeds out convicted criminals when deciding who can enter the country. That would be a start. So I can't imagine there's any remedial work going on.

We can't discuss this. Anyone who tries to is gas lighted and told they're racist.

The slyness of that and the ignoring what is and has been going on - eg grooming gangs etc makes me feel physically ill tbh. There's nothing to be done. Our governments have decided this is the policy and we cannot turn back now. Eventually we will all be assimilated I guess - in about 70 years.

We can't really compare ourselves to Germany. Germany takes in WAY more refugees than us and when those incidents were reported, they had taken 1.1 million! In the same year we took in 30, 000.

As a teacher at a girls school, the number of girls from certain ethnic groups that tell you they can't go to university because they need to look after the family home is very sad. Especially as some of them could have done so well. I suppose we can just hope for a gradual cultural shift

If someone starts a thread about Catholic priests I will contribute gladly I've a big axe to grind there but this is about the different issue of groups of men who have been brainwashed in to thinking less modest women and girls are fair game for sexual abuse and assault.

I agree. This is a very important issue. The U.K is being forced to absorb tens of thousands of additional men from countries & cultures fundamentally different to our own. The implications of this for British women should be a permitted topic for discussion on MN, of all places.

It’s not “other cultures” though is it? It’s specific “other cultures”. If you want to discuss something name it and own it, don’t pussyfoot around the issue you say is there and needs shedding light on.

One idea I have is a Life in U.K. class that all immigrants aged 12+ should attend. It would be about our culture, etiquette, social mores.

We already have a Life in U.K. test to apply for settlement. So why not a class you take within the first year here?

We have to be able to discuss our legitimate fears for the safety of women and girls without being called bigots or have to caveat whataboutery re all men.

You know someone will come back at you, so I will - no need to bring religion into it. Otherwise you need to mention other religions too. Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh. Christian too. It's not confined to Muslims. It's cultural and has its roots in the false narrative peadalled in some countries that Western women are all 'up for it'. Education needs to start in those countries, in their schools and villages.

I agree OP. I read one of the threads and thought that it was an important discussion to have. I was surprised that it was deleted.

I'd be interested to discuss if there is any remedial work done with people joining our society if they are from a country that has historical and deeply held views about the roles of women as 'lesser' people. Or do we not, as a country, acknowledge at all that this could be problematic?

I'd be interested in the answer.
