We can't really compare ourselves to Germany. Germany takes in WAY more refugees than us and when those incidents were reported, they had taken 1.1 million! In the same year we took in 30, 000.

Angela Merkel's response to a drop in the German population were a pragmatic support to German industry, not an act of charity.

MiniatureSchnauzerEyeBrows · 28/11/2022 19:41

Worried about replying in this thread but here goes
I think some men from different cultures coming into Britain is problematic when they don’t grasp our culture. This has nothing to do with religion as Christianity is the most misogynistic of them all in my view. I don’t know the answers. It’s not racial or religious. I think some men absorb the relics of their culture more than others.

Justthisonce12 · 28/11/2022 19:38

We aren’t talking about random attacks though. The target Women need educating rather than just protecting. My relatives work in care and has physically dragged girls out of cars who are willingly getting in to be gang raped in exchange for cigarettes. Nobody is looking out for them long term until they get pregnant then the cycle continues.

FlissyPaps · 28/11/2022 19:37

The biggest threat to this country are the arrogant, selfish, greedy Tory party.

Not foreigners. Never have been, never will be.

Someone please link some data from some credible sources, not tabloids, that prove OP’s point.

ClaribelLowLieth · 28/11/2022 19:33

British born men might be bad but why import MORE horrible men?!

PorridgewithQuark · 28/11/2022 19:32

I do think it's a large concentrations of unaccompanied, mostly young, sometimes poorly educated and when not quickly disappointed that their education opens no doors to well paid work, men not allowed to work and having been through traumatic experiences and landed somewhere allegedly "safe" but completely unfamiliar problem.

Not that dissimilar to sending big "stag" / "bachelor " groups to certain holiday resorts in Spain, except sending them long term with no likelihood of returning to a safe home and job/ study, and no access to a bank account or the bank of mum and dad...

But there is sometimes a cultural element - its not controversial to say that negative stereotypes of western women (as indiscriminately promiscuous and available sexually) exist in some cultues just as UK culture harbours widely held stereotypes of middle Eastern or north African men.

It doesn't mean everyone from any given culture thinks that but every culture has its stereotypes which are believed by a big segment of the population, and those internalised beliefs do impact how some people behave and what more people condone.

Why not? We are a much smaller country with a higher population proportionally. They have a much larger land mass with only a quarter more people than we have. Of course they should take more!

Not sure where you get these fairytales from (ok, guess it's pretty obvious.)

In actual facts, Germany has a population density of 232/km2 and the UK, 272/km2. Big fucking difference. In contrast, the Netherlands have roughly twice that and STILL manage to take in refugees.

Just pathetic. In particular considering neither Germany nor the Netherlands had the slightest role in generating a flood of refugees out of Iraq for starters.

CarefreeMe · 28/11/2022 19:23

It's universal as a respect issue. It's misogynism that's the problem, nothing else.

Exactly.

Instead of arguing about what race or country the majority of predators come from and how to ‘stop them coming here’.
Why not focus on the misogynistic behaviour that is underlying in so many males all over the world.

If this country stomped out misogyny, then it wouldn’t matter what country of origin the men were from.

On the other thread several posters said that the police won’t do anything out of fear of being labelled racist - they don’t care about that, it’s the fact that the police force is still inherently misogynistic.
Yet some posters will ignore this and choose to continue to play the race card.

In every single post on all of the threads on this subject, sexist attitudes are at the centre of them all.

One idea I have is a Life in U.K. class that all immigrants aged 12+ should attend. It would be about our culture, etiquette, social mores.

We already have a Life in U.K. test to apply for settlement. So why not a class you take within the first year here?

This...and I say this as a British woman whose ancestry is from one of those misogynistic cultures you talk about.

That training should be mandatory.

It disgusts me, the thinking that a woman wearing a short skirt, who are drunk, or who have no protective father/mother/is in foster care etc, is fair game, it's sickening.

The focus should be on stamping out misogyny. I would say it it should be taught in 'religious' schools too. Nip it in the bud.

HermioneWeasley · 28/11/2022 19:22

@CarefreeMe not that we shouldn’t take refugees, but that an influx of single men from misogynist and homophobic cultures is not good for women or society more generally. Happy to take women, children and families.

AMessageToYouRuby · 28/11/2022 19:20

What do the stats say? Are recorded incidents of harassment, sexual assault/abuse & rape disproportionately higher in certain groups? I live in London, which has always been multicultural, and the range of men I've been harassed by mirrors that. Interestingly, the few times a man has intervened while I've been victim to this sort of behaviour he has never been white British.

This need to assimilate people would be easier to understand if there was some uniform idea of what British culture is. I really couldn't describe it, especially not in relation to the treatment of women.

orbitalcrisis · 28/11/2022 19:16

@LondonWolf Germany is 47% bigger than the UK, so is your argument that they should take 47% more than us? OK. In 2015 they took 1.1 million so we should have taken 517,000 and we only took 33,000. We've got some serious catching up to do then! Where the hell are we going to put all those people! The Home Office is going to have to train and hire a seriously large amount of people to process all those applications, but I'm all for reversing cuts to the civil service.

PorridgewithQuark · 28/11/2022 19:15

Onnabugeisha · 28/11/2022 19:03

I agree with @LondonWolf in that you have to look at land mass and the population already here. You can’t say that countries that have high populations all have the same land mass available for more people. Germany is far larger than we are in terms of land mass.

www.worldometers.info/world-population/uk-population/ Germany has 240 people per square km and the UK 281 - the difference isn't as great as people who think Germany "should" take tens or scores or hundreds of times more refugees than the UK imply.

Additionally just like the UK Germany has some densely populated cities - which is where most refugees want to live, not up an alp or in the Bavarian forest or in the very poor (and often genuinely racist) coastal and eastern areas. The UK also has some sparsely populated areas - Scotland has lots as well as it's own densely populated cities - but nobody is advocating Scotland take London 's refugees because there's more space...

Softplayhooray · 28/11/2022 19:15

I've seen plenty of nasty behaviour from British white men too. It's universal as a respect issue. It's misogynism that's the problem, nothing else. To cast it as men from a certain culture means anyone from that culture will be tarred with the same brush and that is horrible and deeply unfair, and also does nothing to stop hate crimes or fuel racist discourse. You can get wonderful men and shitty men of any culture.

CarefreeMe · 28/11/2022 19:14

Hi all - can someone update me, what is this about?

To stop refugees coming into this country as ‘foreign men are a danger to females’.

RedHelenB · 28/11/2022 19:14

Feministwoman · 28/11/2022 18:48

The thread was called "foreign males and attitudes to women" and was about a woman on a night out being followed by a man around several clubs/pubs, and then groped. He'd tried to chat her up in the first pub, and she wasn't interested.

That happened to me loads when I was younger and it was white British males. I think it's a male problem not a race one.

RedHelenB · 28/11/2022 19:12

LondonWolf · 28/11/2022 18:27

We can't discuss this. Anyone who tries to is gas lighted and told they're racist.

The slyness of that and the ignoring what is and has been going on - eg grooming gangs etc makes me feel physically ill tbh. There's nothing to be done. Our governments have decided this is the policy and we cannot turn back now. Eventually we will all be assimilated I guess - in about 70 years.

Why do you assume it will be that way round?

oakleaffy · 28/11/2022 19:12

canyouextrapol · 28/11/2022 18:25

As a teacher at a girls school, the number of girls from certain ethnic groups that tell you they can't go to university because they need to look after the family home is very sad. Especially as some of them could have done so well. I suppose we can just hope for a gradual cultural shift

The trouble with British girls is they aren’t beaten enough

These were the terrifying words of a young woman who used to work in her family corner shop. About 15yrs old

She was not allowed to do further study
She disappeared to get married in Pakistan.
Never saw her again.
I just hope she is happy.

The shop used to sell alcohol to obviously underage English girls.
I said to one of the staff “ These are underage children!” But he didn’t care.

Very sad.

pecanpie24 · 28/11/2022 19:11

Hi all - can someone update me, what is this about?

tempester28 · 28/11/2022 19:10

Even if you take culture out of the equation for a moment, the sheer fact of having thousands of lone men who are going to be jobless and homeless, living in poor conditions and becoming frustrated with their situation is a huge problem for our society. Many have recently arrived with Diptheria and I can't see that proper identity checks can have taken place.

MintyFreshOne · 28/11/2022 19:08

lifeturnsonadime · 28/11/2022 18:23

So there are some things that happen that we shouldn't talk about?

Why is that?

The biggest problem is when the only media to address these issues are outlets like these because ‘respectable’ publications won’t touch them. Even when we see and experience harassment from new arrivals

CarefreeMe · 28/11/2022 19:08

It wasn't carefreeme. But here you are peddling your lies again. Now that the original thread has gone you seem to feel free to make up shite.

I wouldn’t have been the only one who read the other threads remember.

Even on this thread there are posters who are questioning the motives of the men coming over.

Some people are against refugees and claiming it’s for ‘women’s rights’.

On the other thread there were several posters claiming that the police force are scared to come across as racist, even though every other day it comes out that they’ve done something racist and most don’t care.

Posters just need to be honest about their views instead of contradicting themselves on every thread about how foreign men are the issue, but it’s not all foreign men, but it’s also some British men, but foreign men are still the issue - just say how you feel.

Onnabugeisha · 28/11/2022 19:03

PorridgewithQuark · 28/11/2022 18:52

Not anywhere near in proportion to the number of refugees taken in. Germany only has 80 million people to the UK 's 60million - the difference in number of refugees taken in is many orders of magnitude bigger.

I agree with @LondonWolf in that you have to look at land mass and the population already here. You can’t say that countries that have high populations all have the same land mass available for more people. Germany is far larger than we are in terms of land mass.
