What is this ‘You might also like’ clutter?

Still no response from MN about why it's not on any of the site stuff threads?

Someone has made a deliberate decision to exclude this topic, but thought nothing of leaving suggestions on relationships, bereavement and other sensitive topics.

MNHQ, you can tweak all you want, but it's clear how poorly thought out this new feature was and how little you care about your users.

We need a vote thread.

It would depend how many opted out. If it does turn out the feature is hugely popular, aside from those of us on this thread who have expressed a dislike of it, you couldn't blame MNHQ for persisting with it really.

I cant see how that would work, so even if everyone on this thread opted out the posters who didnt would still be bumping zombie threads into active.

The simplest tweak would be to make it appear after the "add message" box rather than before.

Or, if MNHQ believe some people like it, why not make it a customisable feature, that can be switched on or off?

Maybe we should start a load of really boring threads and all join with 'yeah', 'nah', so MNHQ gets its content-worth out of us.

I find it much more rude when posters are rude to MNHQ and demand changes to what is a free site. Of course, feedback is important and MNHQ are generally pretty good at listening to users so I don’t think it’s necessary to be rude to the admins how some posters are

You do realise that some people pay for MN dont you? Are they entitled to complain because they pay for the site or do they have to put up and shut up too?

A thread from yesterday in The Litter Tray about a cat with an inoperable tumour is bringing up a recommendation for a thread in 'Life Limiting Illness' about someone's dying parent. I don't think threads in 'Life Limiting Illness' should be being recommended in other topics.

Is it because they locked down new posters and now there is nothing new?

Just wanted to add to what everyone else is saying, it's a shit feature, please get rid of it.

Just adding to what everyone else has said. I don't like this feature and I don't need it. It also doesn't work well. I start the Archers threads and the Archers spoiler threads, both in Radio Addicts. Every single thread currently recommended for me under the newest thread is one I started myself, months and months ago, each of which ran until it filled up and then I started a new one. Why would I want to look at them again? Even if I did, they're easily found. I imagine the same goes for many other long-running threads with a small group of posters contributing. Utterly pointless.

I'm also really shocked at some of the crass and insensitive links people have been confronted with, as mentioned above. Why didn't anybody realise this would happen? Didn't you test it?

The cremation thread is still being recommended on the Bake Off thread.

@GoodnightGentleBoris that is such a shitty comment, saying 'if you don't like it, just leave!' How rude. If something that was previously OK has gone to pot, then people have a right to complain, without being told 'well bog off somewhere else then!'

It's like when people complain on Twitter that one of their (previously) favourite TV shows is a bit crap now, there is ALWAYS someone who comes along and says 'don't watch it then!' People want it it improve and get better and be as good as when it started, and how it used to be. Not be told 'if you don't like it F-off!'

Maybe MNHQ might want to just take on board what happens when the people you want to use the service are unhappy with that service. The overwhelming majority neither like this function nor do they want it. Maybe they should look at whether they want to keep people using this site or they don't. Because right now it seems like they are not bothered either way which smacks of arrogance IMO.

As for the PP's comment "other sites are available" yes they are, just like there are lots of other clothes shops available if people don't want to shop in a particular place.....that ended well for Joules didn't it? If you want to keep people coming back give them what they want otherwise lose them forever.
