What is this ‘You might also like’ clutter?

I find the feature anxiety inducing. You click on one thread about energy bills and then are confronted by several others. People start to believe it’s all doom and gloom - depressing. Just perpetuating misery when so many people are already anxious and feeling low.

Can't manage an edit function, however.

I'm guessing @Whinge that a) they've paid a lot of money for someone to develop the feature for them and b) it will somehow be driving revenue for them

Can I just ask what may seem like a daft question. But why are MNHQ going to the effort of adding additional features, monitoring threads and making all these tweaks when the vast majority of users just want the similar threads feature removed?

Another voice in support of OYBBK's well made points. I tend to navigate through active/trending. I've found some fab threads (weather and preppers) which I now check regularly. But I'd never have found them if it hadn't been for active/trending in the first place.

Nah I definitely don’t think you could always just start your own thread in classics- they get sent there. Or did. Seems like another cock up if you ask me.

So rather then being accused of 'aiming for Classics' it's probably best to just stick it in there to start with.

Hey Mumsnet, Is this the kind of thing that ends up in Classics now? I thought it had to be nominated and out there by @MNHQ.

Also @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet what data sets have you established as representing the number of views and number of posts on long-running threads?

What criteria did you use to identify long-running threads?

To add to my previous response, how will you keep an eye on the number of views those threads are getting @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet ? Will this be added to someone's work load? The numbers would probably drift down slowly at first, until there is less traffic on the threads and then this would accelerate as engagement dropped off and the threads became less visible on active.

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet youve not addressed the issue of trending. We understand what you've done with active, we are saying that this could become a bad idea. I don't feel that you've listened to our concerns over this.

Probably because - like me - they didn’t know about this setting until now?

Gosh, another one here really concerned about @OhYouBadBadKitten 's excellent weather threads disappearing if MN HQ decide to hide old threads.

I know you have concerns about zombie threads, but, DH has MS and without her precise up to date warm weather warnings he would have been more ill than he was last summer.

Also, for years I have relied on her hard work keeping us up to date with severe weather and explaining things so beautifully. I live in a remote Yorkshire village and often bbc and met office warnings are not as accurate as her forecasts.

Bear this in mind when making your decisions.

Here to add my voice in backing to OYBBK, the change to the long running threads definitely seems out of character of this site. I've been better informed than our local authority and able to protect my family because of it due to OYBBKs long running weather threads, seems like a big shame not to make these threads visible to the maximum numbers of site users so they can do the same.

Also HATE the 'you might like this' or whatever function but do keep trying new things MNHQ we appreciate the effort I promise 🚲
