Grammar correcters, where are we at with these atm, please?

Unless I'm being paid to correct people's grammar and spelling, I don't, and I don't see why non-editors and proofreaders should be any different. If a reply derails a thread', then delete it.

I will correct gender to sex. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I agree with BIWI, although that's not really a grammar issue - more incorrect terminology.

I am the biggest pedant ever and wince at the shocking SPaG that proliferates on MN nowadays. Would I ever comment on it? No.

Some posters are dyslexic, some are products of their upbringing/education and some simply don't care. It really doesn't matter.

But ...

Correcting 'girl' to 'woman' is, I think, making an important point.

As is correcting 'gender' to 'sex'.

In those instances I think they're allowable.

I report them and they definitely get deleted.
On the longer "I hate Americanisms" etc threads, I like to play with the posters and highlight how little they actually know about language and how shit their own SPaG is. Because it always, always is.
Then they call me pompous and smug.

Agree it should be outlawed, shaming someone's spelling and grammar. I did see a particularly nasty spiteful poster call someone a KAREN a few days ago though, and her post was deleted within about 90 seconds of her posting it. So they are on the ball sometimes.

I think people should always report the grammar and spelling critics. They're always so sanctimonious, and as a pp said, they pretend they can't understand (when they can!) Like the posters who say 'surely you mean WOMAN OP? Unless your husband is a paedophile.' (when a poster says (for example) that they suspect their husband fancies a girl at work!)

Report them? Every time. Unless it's a twatty or obviously trolly thread, corrections are definitely NITS so should be reported.
