I think even as recently as four years ago it was much pleasanter.

I think the issue is updating active threads. Sometimes a deleted post (and there seems to be more and more of them just at posters request) for example hangs around there for hours or even days and mostly I'm just looking for a quick scroll. Can't be bothered actually going searching in individual topics.

I was just thinking this the other day, been here a similar amount of time. Active threads was constantly changing, now it can be the same threads hanging around for days, and it's not because they are classics.

I can't remember the last time reading something on MN and laughing until tears ran down my face, MN doesn't really do joy anymore. Maybe my time here is coming to an end. It has been my website of choice for 17 years, perhaps I need to find something else

There also seem to be more posters who start threads, never to be seen on the thread again, after others have responded. Bad manners, or simply didn’t like the responses?

I think Twitter has wholesale changed how we communicate in general as well. That abruptness, lack of nuance, polarised viewpoints, picking of tribes and accepted harshness has filtered elsewhere, even into how people speak to each other in RL.

There just seems to be a lack of critical thinking, nuance and compassion. I think it’s to do with the pandemic . Everyone has been shut away too long, seething about who is seeing people when they shouldn’t be , or who is hugging whom. It’s done something to the national psyche.

Agreed. A lot of nit picking and pile ons. There’s still wisdom and wit, but too much crap to wade through.

Me too. I've been slayed recently on threads I've started asked for support and advice.

I found out my disabled child may have been injured at birth 12 years ago and there was an influx of "why are you posting about this again" "this makes no sense" type replies.

I am now trying to prepare for my NHS complaint meeting but with the help of SCOPE and POWHER - charities who actually advise and support.

I will never post on here again about anything important.

I just find the replies so joyless and point-making.

Also, the threads which are pulled because the OP does not get the response they wanted usually citing the excuse of privacy or some other ridiculous reason.

Regularly being accused of deep character flaws, and the wilful lack of nuance makes MN a pretty miserable place to be these days but that's true across all SM.

I think it’s a few things. Not many people like the new look site. Search function can’t be found or doesn’t work, trolls everywhere.
Sane old mix of parking threads, goady threads about slebs etc
Plus the weather’s been nice (UK)and there’s other stuff to do I guess…

The vitriol does it for me. The way some people speak to each other on here is awful.

It used to be that you could come onto active, and then return a few hours later and the threads would be different, but I agree that recently it's still the same threads. Also lots of troll/deleted threads is very frustrating (with no deletion message, they just disappear). It seems there has been a reduction in both quality and quantity.

It’s the sheer number of troll threads which I find tiresome.
